As a player who started with Overdress, I agree. It makes zero sense hosting Overdress and Premium on the same day.
In my opinion running Overdress on its own day since it’s the “main” format and the most popular player wise is the sensible choice.
Then run Premium and V on a separate day. That makes the most sense to me personally. Each to their own of course. Either way, I agree with your points. Its a very odd decision and conclusion they came to. Don’t understand it much at all.

This is what I've been warning people about, Premium at this point is just a "courtesy format" for older players to hang around until V or D makes them move to different formats. Bushiroad doesn't realize that if they prevent people from playing the way they want, they will just move to a different game altogether. Now if you would excuse me... _boots up Master Duel...__

Standard and Weiss would NOT work on the same day. They are both the main categorised formats
OD and V should be correct on day 1.
WS and Prem should be day 2.
I just feel like people undervalue the weiss community a lot. If anything and there's just limited capacity in terms of events and it would make it worse tbh.

This is false though, we've had Standard and WS on the same day before with Premium and BF on day 2. This was how the most recent BSF (pre pandemic) was executed. So now saying that Standard and Weiss won't work because they're both "main formats" makes 0 sense. In terms of online turnout (BSFO/BRO), Standard was 1 and I'm pretty sure WS was 4 so by all intents and purposes it makes sense both physically and online to have them on the same day.

    • @naotimez4720

@@gytiskrotu The difference is you didn't have 3 VG formats. Only 2. This is a completely different scenario. People either played vg or ws. People either played buddy or vg. This is completely different when you have the same game with different format.
Also since then the numbers for both VG and WS has shot up significantly over the course of the pandemic. The sales numbers and reprints needed for WS alone stands out for that reason.
Please do not try and justify putting your main formats into one day like this because it will just not go well. You're basing your decisions back off 3 years at this point. Its not the same kettle of fish as back then.
Online does not replicate into irl due to various circumstances of player access because of real life circumstances and trust issues that come with remote.

I agree, 1000% V players mostly want no part of D so the turn outs for the tournaments are definitively separate. Premium needs its own Day for the long time players that enjoy vanguard as a whole. Day 1 should be for all players of vanguard to enjoy D or V because both pools will have a good mix of new and older players to enjoy each tournament.

I agree 100% with your opinion. The problem is that not everyone can see the chain of events and the catastrophic results for the game if nothing change to the bushiroads tournament structure, format and policy. There are many examples from other games, to take ideas of how the tournament format and competative scene is working, so that you can implement and adapt them to the games/community /company needs.

i bet the reasoning was "D players will be the least likely to have a premium deck but might have bought a V deck so will will put the most casual formats with the competitive ones" funny how bushi takes the advice of the guy that told me "D is the cheap casual format so who cares if the format is borked".
maybe they should hold the first four rounds of D standard on a friday afternoon and sell $5 TDs at the door so all the school kids can enter after school ends :P

So the only reason I could see this as potentially beneficial is for the newest players to have a tournament experience that is more friendly to first time tournament goers, since the logic is the more hardcore players will play premium. I think this would have turned out a little different had this been singles instead of teams, because I think the network effects are the worst on this, but I don't know if this really will do a ton of damage since it is spring fest. My bet is that more people have decks for the other two formats than have a premium deck, so in theory it's also the hardest one to build a team for, and this is why it was likely split up this way. I was hoping to play both premium and standard, but I kinda understand the logic in a team format as to why it's being organized this way.

I don't agree with the notion that Overdress and V are similar enough to be the same Day. V and Overdress use completely different card pools that can't interact with each other. Not to mention V is the only format without overtriggers.
I think this schedule was done because of you're a Overdress or V player only and want to try 2 formats to play on both days, those are the formats you'll try because the ceiling isn't as high as it is in Premium. Even if V format doesn't get a banlist and we're stuck with Prism/Luard meta.
In saying that, I would prefer V and Premium on the same time like you said.

This is a great video that really hits all the key points. I'm one of deeply enfranchised players and this whole situation feels like a kick in the face. If Bushiroad decides to keep this setup going forward, I can see myself doing one of two things. Either I will stop buying and building D decks since I will not be playing the format much (I would much rather be playing premium), or I will feel insulted enough to stop supporting the game. If enough other players also have the same mindset, that is a going to be a huge loss for Bushiroad.

Honestly my interest for Vanguard has dropped severely ever since Master Duel came out. I don't get the chance to play the physical card game that much because of the pandemic so I mostly play their digital versions. With how easy it is to build decks in Master Duel and Konami's uncharacteristically quick response to problems in the game and then going back to Zero with GameStudio doing everything in their power to make you pay for skins or buy gems is really demotivating. Then you get news like this of Bushiroad doing really questionable decisions, I just want them to do succeed but sometimes it's really hard to root for them.

This works out pretty well for my group and I tbh. we started with V and continue into D. I don't wanna have to dig around for old staples from a format from years before I played the game. Nobody plays premium at any of the shops in driving distance to us. Probably the best choice for making sure the playerbase that largely expanded with V is able to do something on both days.
If they did it the way solemn wants my group and people like me would have legit nothing to do day 2. It ain't like the old guard don't have V premium decks. it's about accessibility for everyone overall rather than making it about venerating the old guard.
And besides, Springfest is a fuck about anyway, nobody goes to Japan or makes money. pick something to play and crack on.

The logic behind this choice is apparently Weiss and Standard have to be on different days since they are the pushed games, then Premium has the fewest number of players among the three so they put it on the same day as standard. While I haven't heard why not pair Prem and Weiss, I assume it's maybe so there's more appeal to VG players so the event is primarily divided into a VG day and Weiss day? Maybe it's to appeal to players who played V and switched to Standard?
I also don't know if it's influenced by JP community turn out either since Prem is smaller than it is overseas. If it is, we might get changes from outreach to the EN producer

Honestly, there's no real solution, I think everything went wrong when they decided to split formats. V could be handled after G, without reboot or they could have just introduced the gift mechanic without the need of a whole new format. D is being the format that V should have been in the beginning but failed miserably and now they tried to clean their shit with a 3rd format, which made everything worse. I enjoy V ngl, but when it comes to hype and gameplan, I clearly prefer D cause it's always something new. I also wish that they cared more about premium, there's soo much stuff that they could bring back with, they can bring old decks back with decent support or reprints with a more reasonable power scale. I dunno, sometimes i think Bushiroad is just like "fuck it, let them kill each others".

  • @lulzvg
    @lulzvg 2 роки тому +5

The hype side of things is somewhat unfortunate. I often see those who don’t care about Collabs & LM sets be so vocal about their diastase that it makes those who do care less inclined to talk about them. It’s often to the extent of trashing them before during and after reveals.
Part of it for sure is due to a lack of faith in their competitive viability. But it often just feels like you’re not allowed to be hype.
It’s super disheartening for a set you’re hyped for be trashed simply because it’s a collab set. And LM? Almost every reveal is rife with “complaints” about it not being a real set.

  • @SinH4rv3st
    @SinH4rv3st 2 роки тому +4

I agree, having standard and V on one day and then Premium on the other would be the best solution. That way you have your longest term players having both options to play while the newer ones can pick which one they want, if they liked to play V then great, if they missed it then cool.
That said, I wonder if it was more like this: Premium players more likely to have V-decks vs purely standard players, where as most standard players would likely not have premium, but may have V-era decks. If you're a premium player that hates V, you're SOL. In short, yes, it short changes the premium players, but serves the most recent ones more greatly. I totally agree in terms of the overall value in a competitive game. But Bushi, with their consistent lack of trying to make the game competitive (no best of 3s, lack of any possibility of pro play, etc) it's a clear statement that that's not their primary goal. And from Day 1, it's been that way. Remember, Buddyfight was their "competitive" game. And with it dead, they have all the justification they need to not make it a priority.
And lets be honest. They know that Premium players are already bought in. They stuck around through 2 reboots. So they'll buy the newer cards even if they don't get to play standard anyway. They want the most metrics, not the best tournament scene. Premium players still have their V decks to play on day 2, and V players likely have a standard deck, but not a premium, so they'll do two days. Who cares if the tournament scene is garbage if you can report back to the office how successful your new format is.
Edit: The "Best" solution would be to eliminate V-Era as a format since it's stagnant anyway and does not have a large enough card pool to be supported just through small updates each year, where as Premium has a significantly larger pool. You could still add V-era focused boosters to capitalize on those cards specifically, but premium is mostly V-era+ anyway. I felt this was going to happen eventually, they just didn't want people who played V-era to have their decks blanked and angrily reject Overdress. But really, in the last couple of years since D-era, you gonna tell me the format has changed much?

Bushiroad is trying to kill Premium tbh. I'm not a big fan of Premium and only play V-Premium but even I know when some crap is up. Bushiroad could've had D and V on the same day and have Premium on its own day. This way the newer players and some what older players can play D and V while the vets can play Premium on its own day. This is straight BS. They're not even making much of an effort in fixing V-Premium either and so from what it seems, Bushiroad is either trying to kill V-Premium and/or Premium which is just not fair. I agree 100% with Solemn.
PS: I even remember Bushiroad saying that CFV was meant to be a "Casual" game and yet there's competitive players in this game and they don't want to see that.

I see 2 main reasons and a possible eeason why Bushi did it this way. 1st they know v won't be played by much if it has to compete against an other format. 2nd is to push V Clan Collection Sales. Maybe 3rd is a venue thing. D and WS on the same day could mean too many players on one day, especially with covid regulations some european countries still have.

    • @michaelkaito1399
      @michaelkaito1399 2 роки тому

i can tolerate the fear of covid when we held D and Weiss at the same day
Hence the most optimal lineup would be V series and D at the same day. I mean....they also couldn't afford to not promoting Premium Collections...and V clan collection doesn't shake the meta a lot (Doesn't see any banlist yet). It's really wierd if they're trying to promote V clan collection if they didn't release any banlist about luard, gavrail, bermuda.
That aside, all of your reasoning are well thought from bushiroad prespective and prolly that's what they think.
Also, V series support does very well in premium, even clan collection. So like what maxime said, Premium player would also play on day 1 V series because all you need was just remove the G zone...right?

Vanguard has 2 active formats actualy, V Premium and D Standard.
This formats have the support of Bushiroad, because is releasing products now.
Then, V Premium is a format that it is very possible that new players who have entered to vanguard thanks to Overdress, can play it. Because Bushiroad is printing products like the Clan collections.
On the other hand, Premium is very difficult for new people to have access to many cards necessary to play it well.
So, in my opinion, premium and D standard on the same day, and leaving V Premium for sunday, is the best option to have the most posible people in every tournament.
New players can play D an V, and eternal players can play Premium and V. For me this is perfect

Somebody was getting shafted no matter what.
It's literally the format with the lowest barrier of entry paired with the format with the highest barrier of entry.
Also this allows Bushi to push Weiss more from a business perspective. But if I was a vanguard only player then yeah I'd be upset because if I loved vanguard and only played vanguard I would want to play standard and premium.
I do think premium being a small and competitive tournament is totally fine and even preferred as long as bushi doesn't use low attendance as a reason to get rid of the format which I highly doubt.
Vanguard and Weiss being different players isn't entirely true and this just allows Bushi to target as many players as possible. For me locally we play a majority of bushi card games and that includes Weiss and vg.
To summarize I feel vanguard only players got shafted but players that play both games got the win. And bushi simply cares more about helping the latter than the former

Idk putting the most popular and least popular format together kind of makes sense. I'm not going to say you're fear mongering but BRO, as well as other events worldwide were a pretty clear indicator as to which formats are the most popular. I prefer premium WAYYYYYY more than I do overdress but the reality is that newer players don't. Premium being so much more expensive doesn't help the format either, and with no stride reprints in the foreseeable future, a lot of newer players will continue to look at premium and tell themselves "maybe later"

Might want to tweet your thoughts to the eng producer of vg??
Also I really think your first option or the option you think the company most likely to make doesn't make sense, I even surprise you didn't even mention the big elephant in the room (covid restrictions), I agree 100% with your opinion, but from what I see in the social media and asking around, d and weiss on a same day is a nightmare or impossible if venue can't run on 100% capacity (idk how true is this, but this is a statement that a lot of people have said), so I thought your second option with d with v, is the best compromise between still in the limit of probable venue regulations (especially in Europe) and the longevity if community, so idk if the conclusion of them reaching to put d and premium on the same day because venue regulations plus not seeing the ramifications, or maybe they have a different agenda, so yeah it's sad that both format need to be sacrifice like this, on another note (can't they do this on different weekend??) Or it's put strain in the logistic side of things, idk I'm new to the whole competitive event.-.

I know you said don’t leave a comment since you want an echo chamber in the comment section but I’m gonna say this anyways. You need to look at Vanguard as a casual game. Every decision by bushiroad jp is to keep things as casual as possible, otherwise why would they keep dumbing down the game and releasing heavy RNG like overtriggers. Maybe in the west, you need to appeal to loyal sweaty customers to stay alive, but in JP, they need keep the game as not-sweaty as possible.
Let’s be real, Bushi will never die because they have nice looking shiny waifu cards. If the game was gonna die for any of your aforementioned reasons, they would have died a long time ago. Ppl will leave and come straight back to the game because of nostalgia or waifu artwork. There is no reason for them to change their strategy and become like Yugioh and appeal to a more sweaty audience.
Having the 2 more casual formats split makes sense from a business standpoint because you wanna appeal to the casual audience more. I would say majority of JP players never touch premium, and honestly majority of US players also don’t touch premium, but ofc the players we do hear about, big names, do play it. Covid happened before V ended, and as far as my locals went before lockdown, everyone was playing V. If you wanna get people who likely hasnt bought any vanguard cards in 2 years to get back in, you want them to 1) buy a D deck and 2) bring their old V deck with a few updated cards.
I get where your frustration comes from, but Bushi will never change because they are a Japanese company first. You have to realize that on a scale of 1 to 10 as far as casual vs serious, you are about an 11. Of course all these things don’t make sense to you, and my suggestion is that you accept Vanguard is Vanguard, and Yugioh is Yugioh. I’ve been watching your Solemn Yugioh channel a lot more lately and I honestly feel like your content over there is way more fun and engaging. Focus on the things that make you happy in life, thats all.

Yes. I agree the way that the Bushiroad overlords implemented the system is incredibly dumb. They chose a blanket solution rather than a detailed one.
But I think how Bushiroad got to the solution might make a bit of sense in how the timeline of the games are.
Weiss Schwarz: It’s the oldest game of the bunch. The age of the game has been since 2008. For the most part, I have to agree with you on WS not mixing with VG players. But it’s definitely the exception at my locals since the majority switch to WS after VG ends, including myself.
Vanguard Premium: It’s the next oldest thing on the list and considering player’s age should be on a different date. OT is unlocked for the majority of decks, but you cannot run ride decks. I also know that Ultima is broken with Amartinoa (Sanctuary OT) and that’s definitely choice restricted by design.
Vanguard V Format: It’s the next oldest thing on the list and has been out for a bit less time. It’s definitely not Overdress Lite (As you have described), since there’s no ride deck and more importantly no OT allowed whereas premium has the OT available for most decks. For this reason alone do I prefer V format over D format. The game does not punish you for the OT problem, but it’s definitely punishing to not get your rides.
D Format is now their shiniest format in the game. I mostly don’t want to do anything with D, but I still play D because that’s the support that my locals give for Vanguard. And in my opinion, it’s the baby format for people that play Vanguard.
Given the age rankings for the games, the best solution for a blanket solution is ironically WS with V, and Premium with Standard. That’s my conclusion with how Bushiroad came up with the system. Given that the formats are 10 years apart from each other, I think Bushiroad was going for a generational gap between the players.

I have been with the game since 2012 and after that announcement Bushiroad just loves to disappoint the older fans. Its really sad to see how well other games and companies run events while Bushiroad just cares about the newest formats. Premium will always be my top format. That wont change, but its annoying that now ill be forced to choose playing in the first in person Overdress Springfest or play Premium. I hope Bushiroad starts taking in count their player base because its been showing from the failure of V that they don't do research.
