I don't know how he got those legs spread so well and easily lol. Davie is a wizard on the vise. Beautiful patterns and they just have a different buggy look to em than others. Magnificent tyer.
Hi Davie, I just whipped up about have dozen of the jig style nymphs while varying the quill/thorax colors. I used slotted tungsten beads for first time, perhaps this will facilitate upside down orientation. The slot seems to migrate upward, a little funky but easy enough to cover up with dubbing collar. I really like your tip in bringing in the partridge legs on top straight away, and inverted, great tip from the Irish Master!! ☘️
Hi Dave! This is my favourite nymph. I make 100-150 of these every year with silver, copper and orange beads. You are one of the best fly makers that I've never seen
Great looking pattern Davie, mean looking hook too! I love watching you tie these patterns, the way you build the taper as you're adding materials always amazes me. You explain what and why you're doing too. You're one of the best tutors I've ever seen. Thanks so much and Merry Christmas to you and yours! 👍🎅🌲
Hi Scott, I get carried away at times dyeing materials but I would say that the golden yellow is a great colour to get the colours to suit this fly.. All the very best Davie
Hi fishingmarknz, I have done both but I prefer to dye them first then bleach them.. As you may know dyeing or bleaching peacock eyes will make the fibres brittle so I always use a hair conditioner to help bring some softness back to them.. Bleaching them does take out some of the colour but for some reason the quill I used in the video kept most of it's colour..It's great to hear that many of the patterns I have filmed have been fishing well.. All the very best Davie
Davie McPhail Thanks! I guess I’ll be making an investment in dyes. Love your tutorials! I’ve learned so much in the last month! You’ve made fly tying easy, enjoyable, and...expensive! Haha! Every time I watch a video, I’m saying, “crap, I don’t have those feathers.” 😭😂

Hi Golliot Daniel, Veniards are a wholesale company so you would need to find a local shop that stock their materials and get them to order 100 extra large Peacock Eyes from Veniards as this is what I do to get the big eyes which are the ones I used in the videos..I would normally get about 50% of them that are good enough to use for quills but I have had better...Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and all your friends and family.. All the very best Davie..
Hi Rob, I use Veniards Prepared Fly Tyers Wax, I have attached a link to it for you to see. Veniards are a wholesaler so any shop that stocks their materials should be able to help you..... www.veniard.com/product4276/section9/ All the very best Davie

Your pecock quil do you strip it first then dye it or vice versa? Thanks for your valuable videos, many of your flys are fishing well in NZ!
