My dad did autopsies when he was in college, he said the smell is really hard to get off you and sometimes they’d wear full body suits (this was during the aids crisis, they were unsure how it could pass back then) if he saw this game he’d freak lol

If you’ve ever smelt death before. Its a very distinct and nearly impossible to fully articulate the exact smell. Im assuming its that smell.
Its a smell that you instinctively have a reaction to, nausea, blood running cold, fear, whatever it is everyone i’ve ever met has known when they smell it before seeing anything that that smell meant death.
Rot, decay, im unsure of what exactly it is that causes the smell.
Formaldehyde is also a very distinct and strong smell, you’ve probably smelt it if you’ve had to dissect anything that was once alive in a lab.
To me formaldehyde is worse because its so strong it makes me feel faint. But death smells like horror incarnate. So its a toss up
