2:01 That person operating the Santa Fe E-unit is me. It was shot on a different date than the rest of the video, as I had elected to go to a model train show at the Los Altos History Museum instead.
That was really outstanding. Three things jumped immediately to mind: 1. Great production work. Videography, lighting, and editing were all superb 2. I am fairly new to model railroading and this video went a long way to educate me on operating sessions. Looks like a lot of fun and very realistic. 3. The SVL and their members have a fantastic facility and layout. I kind of got lost in the scenery and forgot it was just a model. Hats off to the modelers who have made everything so true to life.
This is the kind of comment that makes the dozens of hours of work it takes to make something look like this worthwhile. Thanks! I agree with you about the SVL members working at and enjoying what they do with their layout. I have not met all of them, but the ones I know are very serious modelers who love experimenting with technology on the layout. Fun stuff.
Great tour. Very logically presented and I think they did a great job in having both era's blended together. Definitely a thumbs up for the staging yard engineering.
yeah so did I... although the radios are easy to get from Walmart . They need some fake defect detectors to throw a curve ball randomly into the operation again, great video as usual.
The layout is set up and operated as point to point. Windsor yard at the end of the upper level does not have a return loop. During Open Houses we usually run trains in a loop on the lower level between Bayshore and the Loop (Helix).
Very nice layout, I like the variety! Whoever is going to model Devils Postpile Nat'l Monument has an ambitious project ahead of them. Would love to see the end result.
John's famous P42s are N scale. I believe this train belongs to Murf (he talked about the dispatch office and the big staging yard that rolls out from under the layout toward the end).

It looked like a very professional control technique :D

Their preparation was very thorough, and I really liked the inclusion of that "operations" stuff with the 2-way radios.

again, great video as usual.
Great layout tour Dan and John,
Another great tour
Another great comment. :D
Great video nice to see new video
It is a sign of even more great stuff to come! I have a list of projects I am working on and they're all very cool.
Many thanks! I always wondered what their layout is like.
Jen
is this shot on mini dv ?
Definitely not miniDV.
Great layout. Does the trains complete a loop? It wasn't apparent in the video
I am pretty sure they can set up each end with a return loop if needed.

Thanks Mr. Beck!
Well done, very nice.
Great video! Is Mr Beck from Germany?
Sure seems that way, doesn't it? :D
I am indeed. That accent just sticks with you, no matter how long you lived in California :-)
HI Mr. Beck!
lastentry5 Die Anlage ist wirklich sehr schön. Leider gibt es solche Clubs in dieser Art und Weise nicht in Deutschland. Dankeschön
