Hey Jon, great that some samples of Michel Couvreur bottling found their way over to Canada. The company actually transports new make to their warehouses (some are in caves) over from Scotland and age it almost exclusively in sherry casks. They have access to old sherry casks they acquire from Spanish bodegas, that held sherry for a long time (no seasoned casks). Glad that you liked them so much 😊
@@WhiskyNeighbour Hey Jon, thanks for your fast reaction. I really like a sherried whisky from time to time and generally Couvreur has almost never any sulfur, which I find great. At the moment, I rather prefer a bourbon or wine cask however and as you said in your video, most Couveur are a bit pricey. The quality is great however and if you are hunting for an old school sherried whisky, these are a great choice. If you ever are at a whisky festival in continental Europe you might be able to try some of their wide range!
Can't speak to either of these, as I've never even heard of it until now. Still, it's great to keep on learning new things. Always happy to expand my knowledge 😊 Cheers you! 🥃🥃 Nice to see you having fun playing with the camera work!
I love samples, just for that, to try something new! My kids said I need to do more of that camera work. My problem is it adds time to the editing! Still, fun I think.
@@WhiskyNeighbour From what I understand, these vids take a fair whack of time and effort, even without fancy effects. As long as it stays fun at your end, that's the key!
I've been so tempted by these whiskies. Glad to have some impressions from someone I trust. Really fascinating bottlings. Liking the zoom in shots too, nice work 👌
Thanks for reviewing the samples Jon,good insight and flavor breakdown on an unusual bottling of these whiskies. I actually prefer the overaged so it's nice to see and hear your perspective.Very interesting spirits along with the back story. Cheers and happy Easter
Great video Jon. Based on a sample I had of the Overaged, I purchased a bottle. I have a preference for bourbon cask matured scotch for now but the Overaged came across nicely balanced, rich and delicious. Note though that the Overaged has whiskies older than 12 years (up to 20 plus years) in the blend. Based on how the Overaged was, I found Blossoming Auld on a crazy sale and snapped up a bottle. Just waiting for a special occasion to crack it open. Based on your review, I'm glad I took the plunge. As a side note - the whisky is a pain to get to as they are bottled like a wine bottle. You need a corkscrew to open up a bottle!
Smooth: A word for smoothies. I am not going to suggest that you are smoothy but your video ran very smoothly! I’ve been wondering what Michel Courveur was about so thank you for your review.
Some information: While Overaged beeing a vatting of many cask (well... to be specific: parts of casks, because there is not one full cask used for a batch) the Blossoming always is a single cask bottling.
@@WhiskyNeighbour Hell yes, Couvreur is my favourite brand! The 30yo single cask from 1984 is the best whisky I have tastes so far, and the Forever Young Pristine from 1970 is right behind. ;)
@@WhiskyNeighbourno need to be embarrassed. This is a lovely whiskey community. I love what you comment and evaluations on whiskeys. Have a great evening Jon.
For 'Cheers' in French, you can say 'Santé!' or 'Tchin-tchin.' If you're going to be all formal and stuff, you can say 'À votre santé,' but I haven't heard that one in a dog's age. Here in Quebec, the Overaged is $102. Never seen the other one, but I've seen a couple of other releases here. The bottle design is extremely French.

Thanks for the deeper insight. The Sherry influence here is fantastic for me. Do you enjoy them?

@@lunaarran6965 Awesome. One day, I certainly hope I can make a European Whisky Festival!
Nice treat is all I needed to hear. Great info and review of these my friend, interesting.
Thanks! These were unique samples, and releases I will look out for

They were both a treat, but the Blossiming Auld was really something. Thanks for noticing the cuts . I am trying a few things, cheers!
The blossom is said to be similar to an old macallan
I believe it. So rich!

Both were wonderful! I found the Blossoming Auld truly unique. I kept a bit back for a treat. Thank you again for the opportunity. Cheers
@Whisky Neighbour All good Jon,I'll send you another Blossom sample when I have another round of samples for you.
Have a great day 👍🏻

Great insight, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did when you get the chance to open it!
These sounded like delicious fun! Makes me want to dabble back into Scotch. (I did pick up an Arran 10 recently.) Happy Easter, Jon!
Cool! Let me know what you think of that Arran. These were wild, especially the Blossiming Auld. Less traditional Scotch , darker, richer.

LOL! I rarely drop the word, but this was nicely coating, and extremely well balanced.

Nice review, Jon, thanks. What do you mean you don't know how to say cheers in French? They don't say 'a votre sante' in Canada? : )
I am embarrassed to say, I did not know that. Others have set me straight as well. Not a real Canadian, obviously!
Cher in French Jon is « Santé » which means Health. To your health. Santé Jon.
Thanks! I will remember. So embarrased I did not know. Santé Claude!
