Thanks for mentioning why grazing short legged cattle with big fermentation tanks is better than leggy slim gut cattle. Math for those who like to see numbers: two 1500 pound cows = 2 calves per year. Three 1000 pound cows = 3 calves per year. Which cows are likely to wean a greater percentage of their body weights? Which steer will have a lower percentage of bone and a higher percentage of meat? Which frame cattle more efficiently convert forages to meat? Would your own property best support goats (lots of high shrubby plants) or sheep (taller grasses and shorter weeds) or cattle (mostly grasses and a little weeds).
Plus, the 3 calves will be smaller than the 2 larger framed calves at weaning and will fetch a higher per pound price more than likely. Nobody wants a dink though. Gotta be quality animals that will still grow.
I only have 12 acres, and I am doing it in the areas on my property that really need the resources. It is possible, but keeping the stock density and area correct is definitely a learning curve.
Fleabane has very light seeds that germinate on bare ground. It also creates a dense mat of shallow roots binding soil together, mother nature’s way of protecting the soil. Did the ground have bare patches before you acquired the lease? It is also an indicator of high soil potassium or low phosphorous and/or calcium.
I may have missed the answer to this question in a previous video. If you are moving 8 times a day what is the schedule. I have rushes that are trying to take over on wetter ground and want to try trampling them in /down.
Very different. Custom grazing yearlings needs to be selective grazing. Custom grazing cows varies depending phenotype and whether they are dry/lactating
Great transitions to show the progress throughout the graze👍
Thank you!

Thank you for sharing!! We need to do this
We all do!!
Another great video , I would like to try the total graze ,but I just don’t have the acreage

8 moves isn’t typical. It’s normally 4 moves, weather permitting
Thank you! Where do you keep them at night? Are they grazing overnight or waiting on the first move of the day to start grazing?
Do you sometimes use a protein supplement.
Yes. We do on stockpile and would consider it in really mature warm season (c4) grasses
So custom graze, you have to handle differently

How wide is your cell?
Varies from 50-100 feet
What is your breed back rate?
We float around 85-90% and it’s improving each year with better culling and practices
