    The trouble with this car is it's too good for the size of the battery. It was a premium price for a car that should have been more basic for that battery size.
    When battery prices drop and EV production is increased it will become more economically viable for manufacturers to make smaller, cheaper EVs with smaller batteries.
    Also battery density will improve and the ranges will increase too.

      These are perfect 2nd hand if you live in an ULEZ city and need to future proof yourself. Especially if your at that age where your kids have left home, you’ve got off road parking for a home charger and you no longer drive anywhere far anymore - you’d rather take a train or a bus. If you’re just a regular city commuter Joe like me, this is perfect. I really do not need a Tesla size battery in my car. I don’t actually like SUV’s but I do love Coupe’s and this IS a coupe! I don’t drive far, I never leave the city and I’m in the middle of an ULEZ city. Perfect for my needs. Even the insurance isn’t expensive - and it’s Japanese! Perfection 😊

    The problem is you will need to charge it daily, so you need either off road parking at home with a 7kw charger or have access to a ev charging port at work and limit driving distance at the weekend. Also if you are charging daily or every other day the battery degradation will be significantly higher than with larger ones. This does create a few problems that a vast majority of people don't want.

    Many of us do 95% of their driving so that 100 miles of range is enough. BUT for the 5% when you need 150, 200, 400... it gets extremely painfull with short range cars. And getting a loaner gets easily unpractical and so expensive that paying 10k more for decent range is the smart thing to do.

  • @sbsummit
    @sbsummit 10 місяців тому +1

    Great as a second car, but few people could live with that small range as their only car, because most people will need a long trip every once in a while - holidays, visiting family, etc. - and you really don't want to be forced to recharge twice or more on a journey from, say, London to Manchester

      @@sbsummit that is true but if you really only need the extra range a few times a year it would be much cheaper to hire a car than have a second ice car.
      We have the mx-30 and a second car.
      We love the MX-30 then but we can charge it on the drive overnight - from standard mains socket.
      I wouldn’t want to make long journeys in any EV tbh.
      Charging availability and charging time and cost need radically improving before I would consider using an EV for long or touring journeys.

    Someone has lost a lot of money here. If it was initially sold on PCP its Guaranteed residual value must have been way more than its market value (and bear in mind the dealer selling this car is also making a profit on what he [aid for it) then presumably it must be the finance company making a huge loss on the PCP deal. Why are we not seeing huge losses crystallise in these finance company accounts? They will have to be accounted for at some point soon.

      Normal battery degradation runs at 2% per year, although it can slow after 4 or 5 years. I wouldn't imagine a battery pack refurbishment would be needed until the car was 10 to 12 years old. A battery pack refurbishment costs a fraction of replacing it, in the same way an engine recondition costs less than a replacement.

    the battery size/ range would not be an issue, if charging up 35KWh would take 3 minutes at the fast charger. but real world 100Km in good weather, with the current charge speeds, is simply absurd. especially these battterys lose capacity/range with the number of cycles (charged up drained charged up) so even if i could drive 3 days with it, the battery would need to be replaced really fast, and with the prices that the car makers asks for them is Absurdly high, its a stupid idea.

    I suggest you watch Harry’s Garage 8/2/24 to Understand WHY prices are down is Not all about Range. you said the Environment I Suggest you All take a Look how batteries are made etc . You seem to forget Everything comes from the ground Fromm food to what you are wearing and that Fossil fuel Oil is Not just for cars as it makes and is in most our goods due to chemicals. Oh the other thing if we All go EV what powers the power station,UK is already in the 90%+ capacity.

    • @jonathantaylor1998
      @jonathantaylor1998 10 місяців тому +4

      Whilst there are a number of Harry's points that I actually do agree with - manufacturers should have focused more on EV efficiency rather than sating consumer's hunger for ever-bigger, resource-wasteful, inefficient show-off SUVs (of which Harry seems to be ever-so fond of) plus that the cost of public rapid charging is insanely high and really should be legislated for - there are simply huge inaccuracies in his ranting that need to be called out.
      Just for example, his "I've bought a diesel because the numbers stacked up" bit - freeze-frame the quotes and you'll see that the only reason his diesel is cheaper is because he put down an extra £5,000 deposit (equal to 25% more), plus the APR rate was almost halved from 9.9% down to about 5%... actually, the PHEV model had a BETTER residual value than the diesel (61% vs 57%) making a mockery of his argument about electrified cars having worse RVs.
      Finally, moving ICE cars to EVs was NOT about global warming but to do with reducing air pollution in our towns and cities - hence the ULEZs popping up all over the UK.
      His diesel Range Rover will continue to pump out high CO2, worsening the rapid increase in childhood respiratory illness see over recent years.
      Sorry, but Harry is a crochety old grumbler...!
