- New bike day is always exciting! For my first gravel bike, I decided to go with State Bicycle Co.'s Black Label 6061 All Road. In this video, I give my initial impressions of the bike, as well as my reasons for choosing it!
I'm also proud to be a State Bicycle Ambassador! If you're interested in what State has to offer, please use my link!

I also have a video on the way of my unboxing and assembly of this bike, and will feature it in many of my future videos!

Love the one bike for all rides idea though. My gravel bike is the same bike I did Alpe d'Huez on, as the gearing was far more "fat old guy" friendly lol. But also do a lot of fun easy rides, and gravel rides on it too. Same set up as you, 2 wheel sets.
Looking to switch it from GRX to SRAM also, but probably Rival for me.
Which then leaves me wondering, do I build a new bike with the GRX I have left over, or sell the groupset (I prefer the first option)
Sweet looking bike by the way.
Now all you need are some Favero Assioma pedals lol
Nothing like a good all-rounder, especially for travel! Unless I’m on a group ride, I don’t really ride that fast and love to explore!
I’ve been thinking about some power pedals - soon, I hope!
Congrats on the new bike!
Thanks Mitch!
Congratulations on the new steed Eric!! Looks great!! And yes the SRAM wireless is great, I have the Force wireless for 18 months now and just awesome. Enjoy!!
Thanks Chris - it took some getting used to having ridden only mechanical Shimano up until now, but I like it. Really crisp and accurate shifting.
Nice bike mr! The only downside of a 1x setup is the bigger jumps between the ratios but if you aren’t absolutely on the rivet then it’s not an issue. I converted my winter bike to 1x and love the simplicity. 👌
This bike will probably be zone 2 more than anything. If I want to put the hammer down, the Tarmac is still there.
New bike day rocks!!!
Sweet bike! I didn’t like 650b the handful of times I used for gravel, but everyone’s different. Need to bring it back to Ohio and ride the dirty water race. True gravel Sufferfest right up to your alley!
That’s actually in the plan for next year! Hopefully I’ll get to try the gravel wheels on Sunday.
That's my favorite color! Love it with the tan walls too!
It looks even better in person
@@ericbarnettcycling Can't wait to see it!
Congrats on the new gravel bike Eric, it looks 👌 Looking forward to seeing your adventures on it!
Thanks Mark - it’s definitely more of an adventure bike than a speed machine. Looking to go exploring!
@@ericbarnettcycling I wonder how much slower it would be compared to your Tarmac if you put your deep carbon wheels on it 🤔
@@MarkyMarkZwifts ooh, probably waaay slower. If I knew how to do bike maintenance, I'd try to swap a free hub and try my carbon wheels on it. Being slow(er) is sort of the notion of the bike, though. If I can get strong enough to hang onto a group ride with it, the Tarmac will be turbo mode!
Bike looks great!
I’m a big fan of the color
Very nice indeed, love the colour, looks super retro! Looking forward to seeing how it compares to your other bikes !
I would be interested to hear your thoughts on the sram 1x once you've had a bit longer with it.
Thanks Jarrod - I love the look of the bike. It’s certainly not a high performance speed machine, but my intent in getting it is having fun & exploring roads my road bike can’t tackle. Meanwhile, pushing harder on a heavier bike means the road bike will feel even lighter!
Love it, great looking bike and it looks like you are going to have buckets of fun off road.. question: what made you choose this manufacturer and how did you become an ambassador?
I was looking at two things separately - a bike that could be my adventure bike (aluminum bike that can do anything) and companies that have ambassador opportunities. I really like State’s aesthetic - they promote cycling for “normal” people. I think they’ve only recently come out with a carbon frame. While I value rising fast, I also want to have fun. The idea is that I’ll put a lot of Zone 2 training in on this bike while exploring and having fun. In the meantime, if I get stronger and faster on this bike, the Tarmac will be turbo mode! The application for becoming an ambassador is on their website.
awesome pick!
Good pick Eric 👏👍
I needed a good all-arounder. Love it so far
Awesome bike Eric!
Thank you
Congrats it’s a beauty! Curious about the ratios in the 1X12 and how you are finding that, particularly once you take some road rides.
Time will tell, particularly with the two wheel sizes and different types of riding.
Nice one! Congratz🎉
Thanks!
Quality control issues with State?? No way!! 😂
When getting the extra set of rims did you consider upgrading to carbon rims instead of 650b?
I thought about that very briefly. I’ve come to terms with this being more of an adventure bike than a speed machine. If I ever get the notion to race gravel, I might get a carbon gravel bike. For going fast on the road, I have the Tarmac.
Hi, May I ask something about the bike, Do you have an instagram by any chance?
Hey, sorry for the belated reply - I've been off the bike due to a big move. Everything on my State bike looks like it should - everything welded. Hopefully you have this sorted out.
