    Butch must have been talking about Jaimoe’s solo section in Mountain Jam from Love Valley 1970, and his take on it is spot on. Jaimoe is out of this world on that tune. You can find the video of it here on UA-cam.

    Those two were the heart of the band. The others played off their rhythms and made music for the ages.

    You will be missed my friend. I wish I could tell you thank you for all of the lessons that you taught me as a drummer, that you didn't even know that you shared with me. I dedicated a song on our channel to you and the band just a few days before you left us. May your soul be at peace friend.

    Alan, almost done with your recently released audiobook "Brothers and Sisters" detailing the post Duane/Berry era. Fantastic work, especially enjoyed hearing the audiotaped interviews interspersed throughout.

    Butch was a hero to me. I can't figure out why he would do this. In front of his wife? WTF dude? Man, what a blow to me and all his fans, no way to explain something like this.

    • @Guitarmike

      Yes I agree. As a guitarist I wondered when I was young, "Why have 2 drummers?", but once I saw the ABB it became obvious instantly. The instinctive playing between Butch & Jaimoe was something never seen and yet to be recaptured. I met Butch very briefly in Key West back when Derek was just a kid and doing a show in front of the airport there at Martello tower. It was my first introduction to Derek's playing and he was only in his early teens. Blew my mind. Butch was very nice to me and I will never forget that. Godspeed Mr. Trucks.

      I go to the brink often. I have depression which is being treated. Maybe Butch had this and sometimes you get the courage to go to the abyss, sad. I'm so sorry

    Butch Trucks and Jamoie were very different drummers with different responsibilities. Butch drove the beat, and Jaimie was the more Jazzy drummer with texture and fills. They complimented each other so well.

    My understanding is that Jaimo was the first musician Duane wanted in his band. Duane managed to somehow convince him about his idea of starting a band and wanted Jaimo to be the first in....the rest of course was history.

    So it looks like putting those two together and the great double-drummer thing in the band just kind of fell together organically, it wasn’t a plan or concept ahead of time it seems like.

    • @maxpuppy96
      @maxpuppy96 7 років тому +2

      they may not have thought it that way but its hard to explain, that's just simple way to explain it, they were different than ever other dual drummers, most play together strait up, but Butch would hold the fort down and Jaimoe would play these incredible fills they would have a percussion discussion on stage like no other back and forth of the likes we will never see again.
