I've been watching launches since Mercury. Yeah, I'm that old. This was the most spectacular launch event ever. When the booster came in so fast I thought it was going to slam into the ground and then the engines kicked in and it just shuffled on over to the launch pad and, well, parked. Breathtaking.
And people thought the chinese were gonna overtake SpaceX. Not a chance. SpaceX is still the forerunner by far when it comes to development of interplanetary missions, and reusability of vehicles.
I was at home in Brisbane Australia simultaneously watching the Everyday Astronaut, LabPadre and NasaSpaceFlight live streams. Great to hear Marcus on the LabPadre stream. Words can't describe it.
I was unaware the attempt was set for this morning and woke up 15-20 minutes after launch but was happy to watch a delayed stream of it. By some miracle I was not spoiled prior to seeing the full flight and enjoyed it with coffee, unsure what the outcome had been on the catch or starship reentry/landing on target.
Not sure if a comment has mentioned it. But the fire afterwards is normal. They're venting gas and that gas is on fire. Not a big deal. Also, while it was coming down and you see the big puffs of smoke. Also normal. They went gas to keep the turbo fans running. So it's realeasing puffs of gas out of vents to keep the fans spooled up.
I believe they were actually aluminum tiles placed to test the temperature the heat shield got at that location because aluminum melts when stainless steel starts to become weak. Since they didn't melt they now know the heat shield tiles are not needed in that area which is good because that's the area they need empty for catching ships at the tower.
3:34 Left side of the screen "Starship view look far Right just below the flap line you can see Starship has a bead on B12 as a white dot. 4:38 just "below" B12 you can see the Hot staging ring falling to Earth. 6:02 Like a F'ing glove. Suck it FAA; Mid Nov my lily white arse.
That was super awesome! I had the exact same reaction as yours, and I was afraid that the booster had hit the tower! Thankfully everything worked out! 🥳🥳 Also I wished you added your reaction to the starship sea splashdown and the subsequent boom too Lol! 😂😂
Speechless...I've watched this landing/grabbing hundreds of times. It is EPIC. It is HISTORIC. It is something for the ages ! The actually fucking DID it !
I was sleeping. The frustrating part is people gave me spoilers so about half the excitement of not knowing was gone. But.......I knew nothing about the ship itself so that part was still fully exciting.
People talking bout the landing forgetting that the rocket was launched into orbit in 4 minutes from Texas and is set to land in Australia in an hour or so after. That’s insane for travel times also.
7:19 At this point I follow starbase content so religiously that I forget I'm the weird person, not everyone else "How dare you call yourself a space nerd and not know everything about the CO2 COPVs suppression system literally working right now at the engine bay?!"
I think nothing exploded there. Everthing went as intended. The transition to 3 Engines is a planed procedure... if they keep the others running, it would go back the other way to space again... and the flames is just the outgasing at the flameout... but anyway... the possebility that something of the outer engines exploded is there indeed, because they get fed in a different way than the inner 3 engines. When the outer Engine would run out of fuel or oxygen, the turbopumps would overspin and explode, yes! We´ll find out and try AGAIN i guess ;)
You can’t imagine how wonderful it is to see Europeans reacting so positively to what the Murkins (or rather, a subset thereof) did this morning. So gratifying. You are with us. Freedom-loving people everywhere can see what this means. A day in history, and we were all there. Thank you!
now THAT is real effin progress compared to the space race days. really don't like musk, but space x (thanks to him being not very involved) is actually doing a great job.
Elon is literally the Chief Engineer of SpaceX, lol. Catching the booster with "chopsticks" was HIS idea. It's a testament to vision and human engineering, and a massive achievement for the entire SpaceX team, Elon included.
What the actual... !? Can you believe that!?
Hardly. It's mindblowing!
ai flight computer knew what it was doing
Sadly I fell asleep when trying to keep myself awake for the launch. Hey hey, g’day fellow Aussie and I hope you have a good morning
Marcus! You are The Man!
hey Marcus, you didnt live stream today??

One of those moments in Engineering that is WAY more important than what one might initially think...brainbustingly amazing!
Yep, Engineering is magic come true
Space flight just changed forever. They caught a skyscraper.
Correction they caucht a apartme t complex
Sorry English is not my main language I can't really type without autoc9rrect
incredible moment when the engines shut off and it just hung there ... looked so effortless!*
SpaceX caught the booster with the chopsticks better than i can catch a sushi with them💀
Hysterical laughter is absolutely the appropriate response
I bet that landing was smoother then any Kerbal landing. 😂
Probably 😂
Dude ... as someone who only played Kerbal Spaced Programm im mindblown this shit happend IRL
i can't catch a super heavy in ksp even with any kind of automatic guidance system possible and they did it irl first try 😭

@@golem_videomaking yeah Dude lmao ... I think elon is cheating
Thats an equivalent of catching a fly with chopsticks.
INSANE!
More like making the fly hold still for the chopsticks to gently hold it so it can later fly again ;)
Or trying to catch a tardigrade with chopsticks. 😂
@@Quasar2007 that would be the matching equevilant for a Starship catch... Booster ~4500 km/h Starship ~27000+ km/h
more like throwing a fly off a skyscraper and someone catching it as it falls.
Mr. Miyagi would be proud.
People will think we're crazy. I don't care haha.
...a sentiment echoed around the world today. Its amazing to witness history.
Love the comment and I completely agree! Absolutely breathtaking
not only did they win but they did it on the frikken first attept!!!!!!! omg!!!
talk about TEAM!!!!!!!! i love all you guys
I screamed so loud, when I saw this.
So did we. People in the parking lot started looking at us weird, but we didn't care.
This was jaw dropping to experience. Meanwhile Boeing trying to make planes that don’t fall apart even at low altitude lol
This is one of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen!
This historic event today has thrilled so many people today. I was shaking, speechless and filled with awe.
That crackle is one of a kind!

The white spaces in the heat shield were not missing tiles. They were there before launch. It's alternate heat shield materials they were testing.

Not a big space enthusiast, but I'll take everyone's word for it, that was a huge deal. Massive props!
Watched it live, my heart was pounding for the entire time (because of ITF-1 experience)
now this is cool
Booster 12 must have said something like "Just like the simulations"

6:32 was the best part 😂
i was watching it. At first my brain just didn't process it
Imagine that Heavy Booster alone is More then 20 story building!!❤❤
IT WAS SO COOL TO WATCH LIVE!!

...nothing exploded or caught fire...those were the engines.
YES WAY! 😅
Y'ALL WERE ACTING EXACTLY HOW EVERY ONE OF US ARE ACTING. LOL. 🇺🇸
I was there to watch this live. What an amazing time to be alive.

I’m speechless…..so amazing
Today is my Birthday and this is one of the best Birthday Presents I could have ever gotten. 🎉🎊🎂🎉🎁🚀
One of the engineers: “FUUUUUQ! Now we don’t know what we did right or what we did wrong!”
The others: “WE CAUGHT A ROCKET WITH A TOWER! ENJOY IT!”
Can you imagine twenty years down the road, When starship Flight crew Have to Qualify on simulator, Doing this
everyday astronaut had amazing footage of re-entry. You don't see that much here. But this footage of the landing was better.
Absolutely incredible!
Every engineer knows something went horribly wrong when it works on the first shot.
That's a milestone in human history
I was sleeping. The frustrating part is people gave me spoilers so about half the excitement of not knowing was gone. But.......I knew nothing about the ship itself so that part was still fully exciting.
I got up way too early so that I could watch it

Space X already played KSP enough, no explosion on launch site
Dudes gonna make launching spaceships automated the boosters fly right back down and reload 😮😮😮
4:43 what is that sphere object following the boster? The ring separator? or IDK?
That's the hot staging ring after it was jettisoned.
FAA : i trust you SpaceX ! ^^
Honestly at this point I don't think they could have afforded a second attempt 🤣
Why don't I get this reaction when a boomerang comes back to me?
fantastic! but starship BOOMBAAA after landing burn

If only Elon would stop trying to engineer people.
