Is it no pickguard or a clear one? I remember trying out a Larrivee at Anderton's and the description said that there was a rectangular defect in the finish (or something like that) near the soundhole. Turned out it was the clear plastic pickguard!

I have that same guitar. I bought it about 2 years ago and I was blown away by the feel and sound from it. Love the fact that they don’t have a pickguard but Orangewood puts one in the gig bag just in case you want it on. Orangewood is a small company that deserves a boatload of attention and praise. This is my couch/ travel/ fire guitar and it has yet to disappoint me in any way. It’s a no brained purchase.

Orangewood user here! I purchased a Morgan Spruce Live (solid top, cutaway) about a year ago. The first guitar they sent me was a bit of problem. The mahogany layers ran all different directions, and after a few weeks I needed another set up. My luthier said the neck was a mess and he couldn't do anything with it, so I contacted Orangewood. They paid for all the shipping both ways and sent me a replacement that was PERFECT (even the neck joint, Jeremy!) I bought it as my second guitar to leave at my cabin/campfire, and it's always played well. My ONLY comments after a year are these: the tuners can get a little stiff, but I've found a little nut sauce helps a lot. Also, the satin finish is starting to shine where my arm rubs against it (yes, I wipe it down after every use), haven't figured out yet if I want to mess with it or not. Playability has always been perfect! The sound is not as rich and full as my solid wood Washburn, but hey, for $200 it's been well worth it, and I still get compliments on it.
Like Jeremy said, if you are a beginner/intermediate or looking for that campfire guitar, Orangewood is a great value.
Jeremy, ask them for a solid wood model you can review!

I love my Ava (all solid wood) Mahogany. I didn't get the live version and instead opted to have my local shop (Parkway Music) install a K&K with the volume control in the sound hole. It's very easy to play and was delivered with an incredible set-up/action. I also have the parlor (Florence), which I keep in my office. My brother owns the Sage and the Oliver and enjoys them both. For the money you can't go wrong. No, they aren't an upper-end Martin, Taylor, Gibson, Guild, etc., but Orangewood definitely punches well above its weight class.

At $265, I was just looking for a relatively inexpensive, comfortable yet quality guitar to just whip out when i felt the urge. I couldn't have imagined this guitar at that price point. It sounds beautiful, rings with good sustain and great tonal balance. Yes, please.

If I've got any complaints it would be the tuners. On my Morgan (2020), the holes for the tuner posts are larger than they needed to be, and they will rattle when you don't have string under tension. BTW: I figured that the tuner ratio is 16:1.

But for 135 dollar guitar it sounds and feels great. The action is even really good. And in my opinion I like the look without the pickguard. It protects the wood finish but doesn't have any effect of the guitar. Your idea about sharing the guitar (giving the guitar away) is amazing. One of the best reasons for buying a guitar like this, now that I think about it. I am from the generation where $200 would buy you a guitar that was almost impossible to tune, let alone play, and as you said, very disappointing to a beginner. Guitars with new strings will need to be frequently retuned until they stretch out. When I received mine it took a few days for it to hold it tune. It is well-built and sounds fantastic, even with a soundhole pickup (magnetic). I do a lot of fingerstyle playing and the Oliver loves fingerstyle and bare fingers. It's like it was built especially for that style. It really doesn't like picks, but it will tolerate them if you insist, but you lose some of the beautiful warmth and character of the guitar. I have been considering this guitar based on a suggestion from a friend as I have an Alvarez MF60CEOM (spruce/mahogany, all-solid), but I have been wanting a mahogany top guitar as a second guitar. I have been considering the Alvarez AP66, this guitar, and a few others, even with the thought to potentially get a Martin 000-15M on no-interest payments, if need be, but seeing your comment about your Martin guitar, the fact you can gig with it, AND, the big one for me, for most songs I play, I use my bare thumb/fingers for strumming and picking (I like to play relaxing, softer music with harmonies and such) and reading your comment about that exact style of playing, YES! 😀
So, thank you for the time you took to post your comment with your opinion and experience as it was SPOT ON with what I was looking for, thank you, Gigmaster! ☺️👍

I was looking for a mahogany guitar in the 200 - 300 price range. I ordered this Orangewood and also bought an Ibanez AC240 OPN ($299). I played both for a few days and kept the Ibanez for the slightly wider nut and a little more mellow tone. But the Orangewood was fine too. I have 8 guitars that all cost less than $500. This is an amazing time to buy quality guitars for not much money. ( I probably should buy fewer guitars and more lessons.)

Good video and tip on the importance of a good setup. I first saw this guitar in a video by the strumming master Tomo Fujita called Acoustic Guitar Strumming. It and his playing sounded out of this world. Watch that video if you want to hear this particular guitar sing like you've never heard it before. Tomo is the Berklee instructor that taught John Mayer. I thought for sure it was a $2000 Martin.
I really like the inlay at the 12th fret too. That's how I recognized it. It just goes to show it's not about the guitar. If it's good enough for Mr. Fujuta it's definitely good enough for me. I find these smaller guitars sound even better when you can mic them or run them through an amp and crank up the base a bit. In the video it looks like tomo is using the LR bags anthem system which is excellent. That might be in part why it sounded so incredible. I played a $2500 Martin D18 last night that sounded like heaven.. But the size and comfort level was if for level was basically the opposite of heaven.. Fun for a few minutes but no more. This size guitar concert concert or grand auditorium is very comfortable to play.

    Great review, Jeremy. Thanks.
It's definitely a great time for inexpensive but good quality guitars! Their popularity and the fierce competition is a good thing.
Another price/performance value that I've found in the past have been some of the Washburns.
But to this day, crazy as it may seem, my favorite Acoustic is a 2004, $120 (on sale) Carlo Robelli...the Sam Ash house brand. Go figure!?!
I purchased this guitar Online on a whim just for that "keep it with me beater" and campfire option. Little did I know it'd end up being one of my absolute favorite and cherished acoustics at any price! Seems impossible, I know.
Sadly, these haven't been available for a long time. To be specific, it is a *2004 Carlo Robelli # W-4102EQ Acoustic Electric Guitar in Transparent Black* and the one I got must've been an accidental unicorn, IDK?!
The only thing I did at the time was swap out the strings for some Ernie Ball Earthwound Rock & Blues, and holy hell, it sang like an angel at the resurrection. :-P It's honestly got some of the most pleasing harmonics I've ever heard.
One thing I'll say for your UA-cam demos, and for recording in general, is to try and step it up and get yourself a CAD Equitek E100S hypercardioid LDC, or the AEA N8 ribbon, or the Samar VL-37A ribbon mic for your guitar recordings. A few of the Lewitt LCT-series mics are fantastic as well.
And if you ever can swing it, try the Josephson C617 SET with Microtech Gefell MK221 capsule. :-)
I own and use all of these mics, and even paired with just the Zoom Handy H6, they are spectacular, but all will scale up with a better preamp and interface.
Thanks again for these videos! Keep 'em coming.

I've been playing for 30 years (you wouldn't know, I'm not very good), and I bought this guitar last Christmas (but the "live" version with pickups) to replace a Takamine that cost 3x as much (20 years ago). I still have the Tak, but I knocked it over at a gig and it has an ugly boo-boo in the finish that no one wants to repair... so I figured I'd give this one a go. I really like it and it works fine for me. I play out with it all the time (just church services and stuff). Nice review.

I've played a '64 Gibson LG0 Mahogany for 40 years. It's sweet spot is 3-4 weeks old strings for 3-4 months. This Olivery Mahogany guitar is definitely closer sounding, along with the Martin 000-15M ($1,500), to my '64 Gibson LG0 Mahogany. Martin has a 000-10E all mahogany that is $799, which may or may not sound as good. The Taylor entry into the parlor mahogany acoustics is a little too bright. Nothing older strings wouldn't cure, but maybe it wouldn't have that special 'personal' "baroque jester in the woods" sound that only a mahogany parlor acoustic can deliver with ease. I've fingerpicked without nails since ever since I started playing, to hear that tone. BUY IT!
