    I've genuinely had never heard of interlining/underlining before so this video was super educational. Glad I found your channel! :)

      Maybe most go for fusible interface? I personally have this bias that I find glue icky in a garment so I prefer underlining.

    i love you! i am making a 1967 vogue A line mini dress. i will be using wool crepe &/or wool double knit. Can i still interline with muslin or cotton/silk lining fabric. That was my first instinct, but youtube has me second guessing myself. i'm a novice.

    Hey there ma'am, found your channel and have been on it all morning... great work and one new subscriber. I have a question. Do u underline both the actual fabric and the lining or just one side of either the lining or the actual fabric?... thank you

    • @MomthatSews

      I underline just the actual fabric.

    awesome video! i'm about to embck on making a gown from silk dupioni- It's quite a bit sturdier on it's own than other silks, in your experience would yo still underline it for a gown? I think maybe I should, there will be boning channels and it's true I will not want to stick them to the main fabric

    Perfect tutorial. I have a satin jaquared fabric With big roses on and when it’s ironed the roses wrinkle so is it better to hover over with a steam iron ? Also do you always wash your fabrics before you sew special occasion dresses or use it straight off the roll ? Big dilemma 😩

    • @MomthatSews
      @MomthatSews  4 роки тому +1

      I don’t prewash my special occasion fabrics as most are dry clean only. I would recommend you using a pressing cloth

    I have a babydoll tunic that I bought. I don’t want to wear a bra with it yet I don’t want nipple peaks lol. Could I make a rectangle to match the bodice and stitch it by hand to act as an extra layer of cloth? I would use cotton but soft like maybe quilters or gauze. Any thoughts?

    I use a light weight interfacing for light structure but I'm doing a corset and it mentions interlining it doesn't mention lining at all though

  • @thedomoniquejanaya

    I just came across your videos and first THANK YOU!!! You definitely have a new subscriber.
    Second, question. At what point would you interface with a fusible? Would you do that to the face fabric or to the Interlining?
    Third, do you finish the inside of the bodice with another layer of the lining? I'm confused on the total fabric layers of the gown.

    • @MomthatSews
      @MomthatSews  4 роки тому +1

      Ok so you could really use the interfacing or the underlining interchangeably. I would chose a underlining if I wanted to hand tack down my seam allowances and do more invisible hand work. If I didn’t need to do any hand stitching then I would save time and interface. Yeap I also line. So it would be like this: overlay/lace, satin/main layer, underlining or interfacing (attached to main layer), lining (with boning and cups). Wedding dresses can get quite thick.

    My question is if satan lining is suitable for super thin cottons?

  • @Helen_Boayue
    @Helen_Boayue 4 роки тому +1

    when you underline do you just do the bodice or are you doing this for the entire dress? are you underlining the skirt also?

    • @MomthatSews
      @MomthatSews  4 роки тому +1

      I have an entirely new way of doing this now. Instead of underlining I interface the bodice lining only, and I put my bones onto the bodice lining.

    Does underlining a stretch satin fabric remove the stretch factor?

    • @MomthatSews
      @MomthatSews  5 років тому +3

      Yes it does unless you underline with another fabric has similar stretch.

    Hey Amanda, so is there a big difference in underlining and interfacing? I thought interfacing was giving structure..no?

    • @MomthatSews
      @MomthatSews  5 років тому +2

      They are similar but different. Underlining is used to give body and structure to the garment but it is also used as a way to clean finish necklines, hems, and seam allowances. Interfacing is used to stabilize areas of the garment ie neckline armhole etc. it is also used to beef up the fabric in preparation of sewing boning onto
