  • Abandoned places; German Air Force airport from the 2nd World War was used as incident Short for the night fighter of Berlin, long-range bombers launch base, flying school, etc. You can see many barracks building, also an air force hospital, officers' club, a cinema, swimming pool, hangars and the start - runway. Slowly a dense jungle grows over the area, had to fight through chest high scrub. And always a swarm of mosquitoes behind. Also a very good video from German WW2 Bunkers is my video: • Streng Geheim; Im Bunk...
Abandoned Places; German Air Force airport from the 2nd World War, was used as an incident Short for the night fighter of Berlin, long-range bombers launch base, flying school, etc. To see a lot of barracks buildings, a Luftwaffe hospital, officers' club, a cinema, swimming pool, hangars and the start - runway. Slowly a dense jungle grows over the area, had to fight through chest high scrub. And always a swarm of mosquitoes afterwards. Even an abandoned WW2 airport:

      I take it this is in the Berlin area. I know it should not be in what was West Germany. The Allies would have taken it over and used the facility. When I was there in the early 1980's we the troops lived in barracks built by Kaiser Wilhelm or his predecessors. The motor pools still had the hitching rings on the wall where they tied the horses.

    It's such a shame that so many WW2 sights have been neglacted and forgotten. All those brave soldiers and sailors from Every country involved lived and died in places like this and future generations will never be able to see them as they were then.

    I totally Agree ,These Old German Airfields Should be Looked after ! , Its a testament to the German Pilots who were "Lost " on Air Operations . We in England have never forgotton our Soldiers ,Airmen & Naval who were Lost . We have an Airfield dedicated to Bomber Command -RAF East Kirkby . ALL SIDES SHOULD REMEMBER OUR BOYS WHO NEVER CAME HOME !

    The last months of the war the Luftwaffe was practically nonexistent. The allies were bombing Germany into rubble with no resistence. I can only imagine the desperation in that building when this was going on.

    I think this was a good video. In no way celebrating war but in my eyes celebrating nature and it's ability to overpower the abuse we dish out to it and each other...... just a personal view

    A fascinating look back. It's things like this that bring history to life. Unfortunate that probably neither the will nor the funds are available to restore this. It should be preserved, possibly even so far as making this into a living history exhibit. Not glorifying National Socialism but simply to show a period in Germany's past. Denying it helps no one. ALL countries have had things occur we aren't all that proud of...so what? Just do better in the future.

      Germans don't deny that it happened, and there is actually a fair bit of interest in that period of history now. There are actually a lot of sites similar to this one that are preserved as historic sites, but I think it's impossible to preserve them all.

      The rumour of their superiority where largely a myth. The truth closer to home where that there where really only two military powers of significance at the start of the war. And that was the german and the British. All else played in the little league. The soviets and the Americans played catch up but learnt fast, and the Americans had the huge advantage of manpower, knowhow and intact production apparatus. The British raf where second to none, and fully equal to the Germans. Lift waffens could possible have an initial edge due improved tactics (they learnt some lessons in spain).

    The papers on the ground (at arround 06:08 min) appear to be prescriptions for ointment, with "Lidocain 10%, 2ml" in 5 doses (painkiller). The one is dated 09.10.1990 (9th of October) if i read that correctly and the other one is dated 19.08.1990 (19th of August 1990). So the first one appears to be issued 3 days after the reunification and 2 days after the NVA (The Peoples Army of the GDR) had officially been integrated into the Bundeswehr.
    Was this building used by the NVA or the Bundeswehr, prior to 1990?

    Danke dir! Faszinierend! Eine weitere außergewöhnliche Entdeckung. Bestimmter Teil des Videos bei einer Kamerabewegung zu schnell, was ich unangenehm finde. Es scheint mir, dass in diesem Fall eine Diashow mit Fotos im Wechsel mit Videos effizienter gerendert wird ... Offensichtlich hängt es von der verfügbaren Ausrüstung ab. Ich hätte auch gerne Details zur abblätternden Farbe: Ich habe es bereits versucht und dies ergibt Bilder wie "abstrakte Kunst" von großer Schönheit. (Wenn sich die Farbe in Spänen löst.)
    Merci! Fascinant! Encore une découverte extraordinaire. Certaine partie de la vidéo ont un mouvement de caméra trop rapide, que je trouve désagréable. Il me semble que dans ce cas un diaporama avec des photos alternées avec les vidéos auraient un rendu plus efficace... Evidemment c'est en fonction du matériel dont on dispose. Je souhaiterai aussi des détails sur la peinture écaillée: J'ai déjà essayé et cela donne des photos genre "art abstrait" d'une très grande beauté. (Quand la peinture se détache en copeaux.)

    Even though these are buildings from a time the German people don't wish to remember, to me these look like some really cool buildings that are slowly decaying. wE don't really see much traditional European architecture in the US unless it;s on the north east coast.

    • @crystalrock18
      @crystalrock18 10 років тому

      ***** Well yes there were men who were brainwashed into thinking they were the superior being during the time of the Wehrmacht. BUT, also remember there were many men and women who were very patriotic for their country. I myself am a USAF veteran and I am very proud of my service to my country. What I'm getting at is there are men from this time who wanted to serve and protect their homeland. They were ordinary guys who wanted to serve their nation. I've talked with men from the 1940's who served in the Luftwaffe who had fond memories from their time maintaining the Me-109 and FW-190. Even though yes they didn't agree with their military leadership on the supreme high level, they enjoyed what they did. Also when it comes to down to war, sometimes you have to a job that sometimes you may not like doing. But in the end we all live through it and become who were are today. There were officers in my Squadrons who I didn't like the way they lead the unit, But I had to swallow my pride and say 'Yes Sir" and continue to get the job done to the best of my ability. This happens quite often in the service, trust me, I know and speak from experience. And until you experience what we go through, you won't know.

    • @crystalrock18
      @crystalrock18 10 років тому

      ***** Brainwashed huh? Wow, sounds like every other European person I met while I was over there. Just try to have a casual conversation with the locals then bam! "get out of here here we hate you" that got old. What I was trying to get was I'm not in support of what the Wehrmacht stood for that's why we cam over in the 1940's. Not to mention our military is down sizing big time right now, I got friends who wanted to stay but were forced to get out. A lot of us looked at the military as a chance for getting a good job and a good retirement plan, and a lot of us still do, that's why we join, because we can work and live comfortably. I'm done, I'm not going to change your mind any time soon.

    Everytime I see one of these films I think what a complete waste of what was once a totally useable airfield or buildings.
    It makes me wish I had the money to restore some of these old places and then offer free hangar space to antique aircraft owners as long as they maintain it. But alas the government would probably say, "Look someone has something worth something, lets tax them and use the money to promise things to voters so they'll vote for us"! So it will sit and rot and everyone looses, except the government, they still collect THIER annual "Protection Money", oh I mean property tax for the benefit of scociety. Nice film, use less weird music next time and maybe some narration on what the place was. You know the What, Where, When & Why. I know it's in the description but a nice narration would do well to. Keep up the good work though and thanks for sharing this neat peice of history. Keith

    Cool buildings, with a sad past....they would have probably been torn down if they were in the US...not because of the connections to the past....but just because they are old...then replace them with a parking lot or something like it....
