    Ankh is good with 4-5 players, and the merge mechanism practically cuts it down by one for the last part of the game, which also shakes up the boardstate. This reduces the back-and-forth situations considerably.

      Have been playing Ankh exclusively 2 player. Some 2 player scenario are better than other and some gods do well better than other depending on player count and scenario. 2 player makes it very deterministic and easier to calculate possible board state which is very chess like.

    Ankh is more for the casual player? Compared to Khemet?
    Have you played each game only once each? That might also be connected to your weird claim than Ankhs Ankh powers don't matter.

    • @mikeysboardroom
      @mikeysboardroom  2 роки тому +3

      No, we played each a fair amount of times. Have you even played either game? You haven't spelled "Kemet" correctly once! Just kidding! I appreciate your comments though! Stick around and keep us honest! 🤙

      @@mikeysboardroom I have played both games many times. :-)
      Kemet grew an accidental additional "h" thanks to reading too many Ukrainian city names recently. ;-) :-(
      It's just that comments like Ankh is more for casual gamers than Kemet or the Ankh powers hardly count extremely confusing. The former is hard to quantify and might depend on your definitions of "casual", but the latter can easily be calculated to be objectively indefensible.
      Anyway, I immediately subscribed and liked because I'm always rooting for small new nice boardgame channels. :)

      @@oerthling Thanks so much! Part of the problem is probably that, for better or worse, we do minimal preparation. Outside of a few notes to keep us on track, nothing is prepared and everything we say is just us on the fly having a conversation about the game which can lead to exaggerations and opinions that don't always hold up to scrutiny. I really like your videos in general, but I must say I was a bit disappointed with the art section of the video. As an Artist that was the part I was most excited about it, and it was very very repetitive, "colourful" "vibrant" "gritty x10times Xp I would have liked a bit more about the 2D art, the illustrations, Ankh for example have really detailed art, very dynamic poses in the miniatures (subject that wa slike 10 seconds) and a lot of detail of the clothes and a really cool concept behind their design of the Gods. I'm not that familiar with Kemet that's why I was quite curious to hear about strenghts in the art department. But for what I briefly saw Kemet's miniatures look a bit more static and less detailed, it would have been interesting to compare the components and the different art styles. Nevertheless keep up the good work, I found your channel a week ago and I'm already a fan

      @mikeysboardroom  Рік тому +1

      Thank you!! Art isn't usually something we look too in depth at, but I don't think that is a good thing. I think you're absolutely right, we should focus more on the art and talk about it more in depth, rather than just using those repetitive terms. I will definitely keep this in mind for future videos. Thanks again, I appreciate the feedback! Glad to have you here🤙

    We played Kemet for the first time a couple of weeks ago and it also fell completely flat for the two women at the table. They hated it and were definitely glad when it was over.
    I thought it was okay but I wouldn't add the game to my own collection. I constantly had to hold myself back from overanalysing all the power-ups. There are so many power-ups to choose from that I could've spent quite a lot of time figuring out which to get but that would've slowed down the game considerably for the others.

    The reasons you gave why Khemet becomes better at more players would be the exact same for Ankh at more players.
    It sounds like you liked Ankh at 2 so much that you assumed higher player count must be getting worse. But it doesn't. Sure, you loose some of the chess-like computability. But 3+ is also great with Ankh, just a bit different than with 2.

    • @mikeysboardroom
      @mikeysboardroom  2 роки тому +1

      There were definitely some assumptions made when we were talking about player counts, but the general sentiment that I have found looking online and talking to people is that overall the game suffers as you add more players. Obviously just an opinion, all I really know is that I really like it at 2 players. Thanks again for your input! 👍

    • @oerthling
      @oerthling 2 роки тому +2

      @@mikeysboardroom That's IMHO a misinterpretation of the comments. Yes, many players appreciate how well Ankh works for 2 players - especially because many other area control games are somewhat lame at 2.
      But there's nothing wrong with 3+ - except for players who like Ankh especially for it's chess-like state. And that gets shifted to more balance-weighing Gameplay - just like any other 3+ area control game.
      The increase in apparent "chaos" with increased player count is practically the same between Ankh and Kemet (and similar to all the others).
      Kemet at 2? I know exactly what you might buy and can make informed guesses what you will buy and can calculate how to react. And this "control" decreases with increased player count - same for Kemet and Ankh (and many others).
      The high rating for Ankh at 2 is because this is unusual and thus highly praised. And that raises the relative perception for Ankh at 2. But 3+ doesn't get diminished by that - just the relative perception shifts.

    • @mikeysboardroom
      @mikeysboardroom  2 роки тому

      @@oerthling Gotcha 👍That is a really good explanation of the player counts! Thank you for writing all that out! In hindsight, I probably should not have even mentioned player count outside of 2 players since that was my experience with each game

  • @oerthling
    @oerthling 2 роки тому +2

    The variability of powers in Khemet is greater and the focus of Khemet is more on the power tiles.
    But saying somebody without Ankh powers in Ankh could win over somebody who got them is crazy. Level 1 improves your follower economy. How do you win Plague with consistently less followers? Level 2 powers give strategic advantages. Without them it becomes harder to win battles and recover from them.
    But the final straw is level 3. Here devotion gain gets boosted directly. A player without them has no chance winning against somebody with them, unless the latter player is completely incompetent and does everything wrong.

    • @mikeysboardroom
      @mikeysboardroom  2 роки тому +1

      Fair points. It may have been an overstatement to say the Ankh powers don't matter. They do not feel as powerful as many of the Kemet upgrades in my opinion, but they do provide benefits that help you win. Also that creature you unlock at the 3rd tier does feel very powerful. Thanks for your input!
