I highly recommend doing it in a convertible if you can. It may seem like it's in a small area, but don't let that fool you, there was about 400km/ 250 miles worth of driving that day including the unexpected detour!
I regret not doing some of the mountain coasters when I was in southern Germany, I had planned to do a few on the way down to Switzerland from Europa Park but not having a hire car and the train cancellations put a stop to those plans.
Doing alpines via public transport would be incredibly difficult. I think you need a car to do them. I did finish up this trip doing a few in southern Germany
Some of the best scenery in the world, and what a collection of alpine coasters in a relatively small area - I need to do a trip like this!
