Had our own real-life example: I went to wash the glass tray covering the side-by-side drawers at the bottom of fridge when I shattered it all over the kitchen floor. Did I get another one for $77 + S&H on manufacturer's website? No way. Found a plastic storage bin lid in the garage that was almost the exact dimensions as the tray and it works beautifully - and it wont break when I hose it down in the sink.
