I spent 18 months at a large lake in a nearby valley. There were ducks, geese, pigeons, and a plethora of smaller birds such as finches and red-winged black birds. I fed all the birds 5 days a week, every week day. Weekends were too crowded. I hand fed all the birds at the lake, even the Canadian Geese! The pigeons loved me the most, and the feeling was mutual. The pigeons trusted me enough to perch on me without food being offered, and I even got some of the flock to take peanuts from my mouth! If even one pigeon would spot me walking around the lake, the entire flock would fly to me! Having an entire flock of birds fly to you to say hello, hang out, and eat with you is one of the best feelings I've ever had. That large flock of pigeons saved my life, comforted me, and made me feel important, valued, loved, and wanted. The geese and the ducks brought me their babies two consecutive spring seasons. They even let me feed and hand feed their babies! In July of 2023, I bought a West of England Tumbler pigeon from a breeder. She was being picked on by other flock members. I named her Mesozoic. My little dinosaur. She's the bee's knees.
