Some UA-camrs just talk slow so I don't really mind speeding things up. The big exception is music and comedy because timing is really important for both.
thats the very rare exception for me, where a youtuber or speaker is unbearably slow, for normal standards let alone 1.x+ speed enjoyers. I will only speed up those videos by .25 or .50 if its that excrutiating.

I can perfectly process information at 1.5 and 2 speed, so why would I waste time listening to someone talk slowly in perception who is purposefully trying to extend the video for watch time when I can watch it in half the time. It's straight up a waste of time.

You can, there's extensions that go up to really high play speeds. You can go like 20x play speed during ads. I watch at 7x constantly.

This is definitely an ADHD thing. I get annoyed when videos take too long, so I speed them up.
Maybe OCD? ADHD is too strong of a word for that

if anything, OCD is too strong a word. I swear people use the term OCD so nonchalantly now like "ohh i'm so ocd like that" if they just happen to prefer things being neat and orderly, when it can actually be a debilitating disorder for some people.

I watch everything at 2x speed. doesn't matter whether it's UA-cam or if it's anime. I watch it sped up. it's gotten to the point where sometimes watching things at 1x speed feels very weird & slow.
That's a bad thing. You're consuming for the sake of consumption, but not actually watching.

I always put my videos on 2x or even 2.5x. If the video is real slow I'll go to 3x and it helps out so much
To each their own and this is just my own opinion but, 1. This seems almost like an ADHD thing and 2. If time really is that big of an issue then frankly it sounds like you need to better manage your time or like Joey said, find the time and watch it later. I guess if its work related it can make a bit more sense but that would be the exception, not the norm.

For typical videos, it's 1.15/1.25x speed because theres's a lot of thoughts to get through and people speak with breaks through normal speech. If it's something statistic heavy or involved like a tech review or specific data then 1x is fine, just to process the information.
If I'm actively watching, it's 1.5 or 2x speed just to get to the point. For example in this vid the banter is slow and you can get the gist of what everyone saying quite quickly. Similarly, highlights from a stream or longer recorded content, typically have some dead air that you can get through faster rather than fiddling with the forward 5 seconds button.
Anything in the background is 1x speed because it's not active listening. I say all of this, as someone who doesn't engage in short form content like YT shorts, Tiktok etc. It's just that even old videos are quite slow at getting to the main point or they tend to drag on quite a bit.

Used to only do 2x, now its varied between talking speed, if im trying to learn from game footage then im doing 1x cus the timings, if people just talking ill average 1.5-1.75
Some podcasts, I would watch them at 1.25 speed as it feels just right. On IQiyi / UA-cam, I would speed up certain parts, it really depends on how I feel / pacing.
Once u get used to it watching everything in 2x is absolutely the meta

I watch at 2x when I want information but am not watching for pure entertainment. Or if there is a section I don’t find as interesting but don’t want to miss context.

Lot of times youtubers for more watchtime deliberately make their video essays or opinion pieces much longer than they should by filling time with sarcastic tone or slow speaking or meme edits inbetween, so im ok with 1.25x but beyond that you're just wasting time what's the point

If I'm watching a video i know I'll enjoy, I'm watching it normal. But if it's backround noise and commentary videos (like this) then I'm listening at 1.75. I can't do 2x cause i can barely understand what's being said, so 1.75 speed is my sweet spot

UA-cam to anime everything on 2x. Though if the anime is really good I watch normal.
I never even thought of watching smth at 2x speed. That just makes everything awkward and distracting, especially smth meant for storytelling, the film or show is designed to be an experience, not to rush through. This is rare but I totally disagree with Garnt here
UA-cam and other video player sites adding a speed button was a mistake.

I always think this is just people trying to minmax their content consumption time. The majority of videos, specially with music and sound effects, are not made to be consumed that way. You are ruining your own experience imo.
That said, i usually watch courses in 1.5x because is just slideshows with talk most of the time.

This is the problem with modern brains...They use the "I don't have time" excuse to ramp up the speed of everything they do in order to "save" time, but can't be bothered to filter out the amount of garbage they shouldn't be putting themselves through anyway.
It's like instead of NOT putting your brains through the ringer for a 5 minutes video that you wouldn't want to watch normally anyway, you just sit through a 10 minutes video at 2x speed thinking it's more efficient and you're saving yourself so much time, but you're actually just watching another 5 minutes video that isn't what is presented to you originally anyway, because that mean the 10 minutes video you clicked on originally is something you don't want to watch.
Work smarter, not harder. Why are you making your brains process things at twice the normal speed when you can just trim down the amount you input into your brains two times less?
This is not advice, just rambling of someone who does not like the concept of 2x speed on ANYTHING, unless it's intended to be that way.

As someone mentioned here, we have limited time on this earth, and if I want to watch ALL the content I have to improvise, adapt, overcome. I think last time they mentioned this on the podcast, I wrote that if you train enough it's possible to watch 3x or 4x, but it's a huge amount of concentration. Currently I'm watching this at 3x and I'm getting back in the UA-cam game, so maybe I can get back to 4x level. But going beyond 4x to us mere humans is probably out of question.
What possessed you to think you need to consume ALL content? We have limited time on this Earth? Buddy, then you need to get off of youtube and actually engage with life then.

I wouldn't consider listening to pods in the same category as watching videos. It makes much more sense for pods as there's barely any relevant visuals.
Same could not be applied to a documentary/essay/analysis video. Most video are edited and made with 1.0x in mind, if you were to watch them in 3x. All the punchlines and build-up are essentially gone.

it definitely depends on the content. podcast-y stuff and news and probably some lets play videos. The idea that the creator tells you how you have to consume it is nonsense when you have free will.

The amount of time you end up saving watching at 1.5x and above is insane. I've been doing this for years and honestly feel like I've SAVED years this way. It's really not that bad once you get used to it.

Garnt is totally right! Some videos you just want to watch them faster to let you take in more videos. 1.25x is my go to speed for most non-relaxing content. Then I'll speed it up even more if the pacing of the video is especially slow. I'm mostly talking about tutorials, how-to or informative videos rather than ones I watch for fun.

I watch John's videos, Connor's streaming clips, and Joey's videos all on 1.5 - 2x speed. Garnt's videos are the only ones I watch normally. 😂 But even then... sometimes I speed them up.
