I agree.....50 shades is rubbish.......but why did it appeal to so many women?
M1kel Ccc I practice BDSM , from this perspective i can tell you, 50 shades is pure morbid while the duke is beautiful, it goes deep into the character using the BDSM as a tool to tell us a story about a sadomasochistic relation on an emotional level indeed. 50 shades was successful, very successful, but is you analyze the market you find is mostly young women (16-25 year old), most of them sneaking to read an "erotic book".
By the other hand, i am a screenwriter and i see how 50 shades has all the magic ingredients to attract this young audience: small, weak, lonely girl finds an amazing handsome guy and fall in love but .......... he is into BDSM (this "BUT" can be anything... "but" : he is a lamp-vampire, he is a zombie, he is poor...) but after all, love defeats any evil.
This is why twilight, 50 shades, and other horrible books are successful, is the magic recipe and it always works
Now, the duke is more about solving a tense and self destructive relation, is more complex and maybe is harder to empathize with this history , is too real.
