Shimoga K. Kumarasamy, a popular Saxophone artist in the field of Carnatic Music learnt his initial lessons from his father Sri A.P. Krishamurthy. He was under the tutelage of Shri Uppinangadi Nagesh . Presently he is being trained intensively by Padma Bhushan, Sangita Kalanidhi Dr. T.V. Gopalakrishnan.
He is among the few artistes who evoke the flavour of Carnatic Music ad Dasa Literature in Instrumental Music. He had successfully performed a concert tour to the United States of America in more than ten cities like Chicago, New York, Stoudsburg, etc.and performing in Akashavani Sangeetha Sammelan He was instrumental in bringing several artistes from various places under one roof towards the cause of helping the poor and needy artistes.
Kumarasamy was bestowed with many awards and titles including Asthana Vidwan of Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam, Thyagaraja Purandhara Kanaka Jayanthi Award, Kala Ratna and “Saxophone Samrat” by Sri Ganapathi Devasthanam, Shimoga. He has been awarded the “A” grade by the All India Radio also.
He has regularly been featured in leading sabhas in Chennai such as The Music Academy, Karthik Fine Arts, Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan and all over India. He has performed for many Television Channels and released several Classical Music Albums also.
