Now I get why the writer named the character Sara. She liked Hannan. She knew he liked her. But because she was impatient she impulsively got engaged somewhere else. Meanwhile, in her defense I suppose there are a few things she overheard that could've confused her, namely when Hannan announced Hamza's marriage, he also promised he would soon have good news as well. Then Hamza talked about there being two weddings in their household. It's possible she thought he was referring to a bride to be that was already chosen or someone else. Technically there's nothing she could've seen or heard that indicated he was talking about her. But I still don't see any reason why she would just get engaged to someone else when she knows she likes him.
