There's quite some distance between Nordhavn and Østerport, although it seems the tunnel runs below a very densily populated district near the harbour front. Is there a specific reason why no intermediate station was built on this long stretch to serve the inhabitants?Or was the S-Tog station Nordhavn considered sufficient?

You're absolutely right, good observation. Both the metro and the S-tog serve Nordhavn and Østerport with no stops. It was decided, that fewer people would take the metro on this stretch if there were an extra station on the metro line, since it would take more time than the S-tog. It's not because of a lack of space on the surface. For instance, they still dug up a local park for an emergency escape tunnel, Krauseparken, which can be seen at 2:10
TL;DR: The stretch is this long so the metro can compete with the S-train.

@@OscarPetr I'm not convinced by that. Many cities have different lines which run parallel for a section, with different speeds. Even with another station many journeys would still be faster with the metro, because you don't need to change trains. Another station also would have attracted additional ridership from the people living there

The geology of Copenhagen makes for expensive metro stations. The groundwater table is very shallow. The ground consists of boulder clay and sand soaked in this water on top of the soft chalk below. Even ordinary basement construction in this location is known to be surprisingly difficult. All stations on the network are built as deep shafts, where the footprint of the station must be dug out anywhere from 10 to 40 metres down.
Anyway, the M4 northern branch was really built solely to access 'Århusgadekvarteret' and the rest of the 'Nordhavn' docklands for future development.
