- Our GOAL today is to get the Super Structure together. But first, there are many pieces that must be assembled. I am fortunate to have several special guests in the studio today. First, the 5th Scale BOSS, Everett, is on hand for an evening of building.. To our surprise.. a huge snowstorm blew in.. and we had to send him home sooner than we would have liked! Our studio is far outside the city.. and the roads become very slick. But, before he leaves we share some great stories as we walk down memory lane! Then, the following day, Krazy Joe, Rookie, and Sluicebox Steve show up to help finish the upper hull.
This build is very time consuming.. and what a pleasure! It is definitely
something that can be shared with friends, but be careful to read the instructions carefully! Much filing, fitting and placement needs to be done with all of this pre-drilled aluminum. It is no small task.. and a "normal" builder can expect at least 200 hours of work - assembling this tank destroyer (Panzerjäger Tiger (P) Ferdinand/Elefant). I was so happy to see my Son come into the shop to check out the progress! What a great opportunity to get him inside the tank before we close it all up! Being 5 years old is so much fun!!

I love it when Morris shows up. So adorable. The world is all new to him, exciting and fun! My kids are 9 and 11, and I can't get enough of them, as I only get weekends.

When you talk about painting and weathering being "months away" it really puts into perspective how big this build is. It looks so close to being done at its current state but in reality there is so much work left to be done.

Yes FTRC, there is still sooo much work to do. Many fasteners, and pieces, and decisions on HOW to paint & weather the model. Im really looking forward to seeing this model rolling under power.. but I am quite far out form seeing it completed. Should be an epic project :)

Absolutely love this thing I'm really appreciating the history of what the Germans did with these in full scale. You should definitely put your son in it before it's completely done and drive him around in it

Absolutely amazing Medic, and the scale rook shoot was too funny, love this build, and you mentioned natural fingerprints being on the primer and how historically the tank team used what was around then too camouflage their tank, imagine the amount of greasy dark finger print all over, that would be a different paint job, almost like a digital print, but a finger print paint job, definitely unique just a way I would go, let everybody that built it literally leave their print lol

The "upper superstructure" can also be called a casemate since the tank was desighned to have a turret originally. However it was modified

Love the chassis and the Casemate. The hull is originally from the Tiger Porsche heavy tank with the monster 200+mm of frontal armor. It however no offense was a failure. It's awesome of his you built something from the past. Try making the Maus, Jagdtiger, or the Panzer IV H. Either one of these are fine!
Looking sweet. I am one of the people who want to see it painted traditionally.
Looking great!!! Looks better with the tracks a bit tighter, most tanks including our Leopards use a small set of links and mount them in front of the driver which adds more protection for him. In a tank crew we use a lot of natural foliage to Cam up the track, and in in WWII they would use mops and any paint they could find even using white wash for winter like in the battle of Kursk.
Oh yeah brother!! I have the extra parts standing by for the upcoming weathering and final finish.. but I think we are at least a month away with that still..

Forget about the uniformity of the paint, do it on your own, thats what we call ingenuity. White blue and gray will be a great cammo for winter over there.

Been reading few comments, that would be great to see how many trucks it takes to out pull this mammoth! Also I think the ramp idea would be great, maybe couple 2x6's or something.
I have my side x side that I load onto my trailer with ramps.. Ill use those..
When this project has finished I think it would look cool if you maybe did battle damage on the front of the tank like Sherman’s have fired at it and the rounds have bounced just a personal taste from my end but it’d look very unique I believe
I can relate to the filing of plates, I'm still working on my 2009 Armortek 1/6 King Tiger Tank.
Yes, I see that this is TRULY a DIY kit.. and it takes a lot of special attention. I am so happy that we are building this tank as a "community"! I bet your Tiger is going to look incredible!
