    Morgenstern’s epic punt might stand as the biggest poker tourney punt for many years to come. 5 betting with 78 off is pretty terrible in general, and even more terrible considering how deep it was in the main. But the AJ hand is far worse. He is good there maybe 1% of the time (and that’s only because we know in retrospect that Newhouse is a sicko- otherwise it would be more like .001%). I do feel sympathy for him as he was obviously on tilt, something I definitely struggle with at the poker table. But he had such a monster stack that if he felt tilted, he should have left the table for a while. He could have easily afforded to sacrifice a few blinds, and if he had, he’d probably be several million dollars richer right now. I’ve seen a couple blow ups like that at my local poker room, but usually by people who are either blind drunk, or simply don’t care about the stakes. I would say that even a decent recreational player would make the final table almost every time from Morgenstern’s position with 25 left.

    • @jaksdt
      @jaksdt 2 роки тому

      Nah mate. On the flop Morgenstern still had a 23% chance of hitting the last A or a J. This was hardly a blow up and 99.9% of all players would have called. Folding trip aces with a J kicker on a flop like that would be close to impossible.

      @@easterbunnybrandon1796 Straight into the insults I see. Calling me a bad player that don't understand the game. Benny Spindler would disagree with that by the way. He can 7-bet bluff very easily. That last shove of Newhouse was more than the pot size, which could have looked like a bluff. An easy fold for players who think they are better than they really are and knew the hole cards, I'm sure. If you are able to make such a fold, then you should be on TV and not Morgenstern.

    • @maheshpun4804
      @maheshpun4804 Рік тому

      5bet with 87s is fine, probably makes money given the pressure, the amount of folds he gets being deep in main.
      AJs was definitely misplayed even tho it's a semi cooler. On turn he should've shut down and bluff catch.
      Alarm bells should've been ringing Vs new houses 3bet at turn. 4bet is just horrible and I think he can still comfortably fold his hand and New house 5 bet shove.

      JJ v A4 was for 35% of the chips in play when HU for the main - It's a pretty sick hand. Ryan Reiss was in the zone that day and probably would have found a call, but would have loved to see Jay fire another barrel there.

      AJ had 3 of a kind.
      22 had a full house.
      It’s only considered a set if you are dealt a pocket pair.
      You cannot have a set with AJ AQ AK,
      It must be a pocket pair.
      Having trips is different than having a set.
      Both both rank as 3 of a kind.
