Fun fact: (but also TW) Shikabane (which translates to corpse) is wearing a type of J-fashion called Jirai kei (地雷系/じらいけい ) translates to "landmine-type" and is derived from "jirai onna" (地雷女) which is a derogatory term that refers to a type of a woman that has a high tendency to have violent emotional breakdowns. The term is often used to harass and demean. Jirai Kei, similar to Yami Kawaii, has associations with some darker or disturbing themes. In this case, Jirai Kei may be associated with binge drinking, heavy partying, self-harm, suicide, prostitution, and other rebellious and shocking behaviors. These actions are also often associated with minors, making them problematic. It is also associated with negative groups such as the Tokoyo Kids, furthering its negative connotations. Jirai kei is described as mainstream fashion with a twist, and relies on the use of small common themes. Past common trends seen in previous styles such as Lolita Fashion, and of course Dark Girly, have been seen to be incorporated in Jirai Kei. On top of its unique style, Jirai kei also has a unique attitude of wanting to be in charge, or pushing to be seen and recognized. This slightly rebellious attitude is often seen in those who wear the style; underage high school girls can be seen smoking, drinking, and wandering city streets at night as part of this behavior. It also has ties to even darker themes, such as public promotion of self harm and underage prostitution! (this is for informative reason so you can learn more about her style!!) (I am Japanese BTW!!)
I haven't watched this season yet but I really like jirai kei. If im not wrong i've also heard that a lot of the girls tend to stay in net cafes since they're runaways, and these are accessible. So I feel that also adds to her maybe being based off jirai joshis. Please do correct me if im wrong tho 😅
If I'm reading her character correctly, sounds like she's stuck in a self-destructive cycle. She voluntarily stays addicted to video games and lives in a net Cafe bc she feels completely detached from society. Her boyfriend(?) is a gambling addict who's already ruined his own life, but she sticks around bc he doesn't ask her to be better. Neither does Haida, but seeing him - a fellow fuck-up with nothing going for him - pull it together inspires her to start do the same. There's nothing wrong with Shikabane, she's just isolated and had no good role models.
Shikabane is such a relatable and well-designed character. I fell in love with her right the first seconds i've saw her. SHE'S JUST PERFECT OMFG. Who would thought after restarting the series 1 year later would reveal such beauty like her. Her vocie, chara design, personnality, SHES A GEM !!! (wish we could see more of her someday)
Though i didn't finish 5th season, Shikabane seems like an adult that is afraid of growing up. I love aggretsuko's portrayal of real life situations. Looks like she is afraid of having a fix rentable job and a home, or to get attached to people
Shikabane was my favorite character from the entire series. You can just relate so much to her. Plus, she's so adorable and cute! (Like a Vex in real life, hehe)
Me too. At first, the show portrays her as if she's going to play a big role, and with her helping Haida with him being homeless but that didn't even last long.
I used to hate Tadano for personal reason, my hate towards him only grew exponentially after leaving all those poor people more vulnerable than before. But I'm glad the show wasn't afraid to show that no matter how well intentioned, most riches are stupid and damaging.
i love that skunk, always so mysterious and emotionless, now is one of my favorites characters in this show, is a pity that this don't continue to see more about her, that cool gothic gamer deserves her own spin-off someday, perhaps a opportunity to explore more about the wacky universe of Retsuko.
I wish the second to last scene where she did death metal with Restuko was added. I also thought that would be a good way to pass the mantle, and would be very interested in Shikabane's more youthful experience compared to Restuko's (mostly) corporate life.
I admit that I did not put a lot of research in it but I feel that just like a lot of Netflix shows this one got shortened and it was supposed to be 2 seasons but ended up as one because of Netflix (the word speaks for itself...urg). I feel like some part are a bit rushed and the whole first arc of the season is left unfinished (the whole IT engineer study feels awkward since the very last time it is mentioned is in front of Retsuko's parents) Shikabane still serves the perspective she represents (I strongly recommend reading the pinned message of this comment section which explains a lot of what she is about) but it feels like Haida struggles and herself should have been a bigger deal and her screen time makes me think I'm right about this. Also in the very beginning of the season we're introduced to a already jobless and addicted Haida, which seems weird since all previous seasons tried to avoid having impactful events off screen happening and this is a situation worth to be a result of at least one episode of a season.
I have hope they'll do some kind of special. Sanrio is obviously stuck with netflix for a bit but it is one of their properties, i doubt they would discontinue a sleek new property relatively short of when it first released.
I think she’s a skunk. Skunks have a bushy tail and two white stripes going down the back of the body. Plus the “S” in her name. Feneko = fennec fox, Haida = hyena, etc.

Whoever made this character has mastered the art of character design
Probably the most relatable character in the whole show. This is exactly what was missing this whole time .
how on earth do you find eating, sleeping and playing video games all day in a cafe relatable? bruh.
@@maximilianoalcaraz7351look at the pfp
I can't relate to her, but she's probably the most down to earth character in the series despite her situation -- which is what I find refreshing.

I've never related harder to a character when she mixed those sodas together.
Thanking psychedelic therapy (after 18 years of life like this) for taking me from Shikabane to Washimi

I warn you, i have very high standarts...
Oh no, she is literally all of my standarts...
Shikabane looks like Kuromi's Human Form In Onegai My Melody
But she’s a skunk..
Makes sense since they’re both made by Sanrio
Kuromi but she turns into skunk
The aggretsuko crew making a new waifu for depressed adult.
they should've focused more on her instead of the election nonsense that led to nowhere
Yeah, I would have liked to see her hanging with Fenneko more
