Probably the most popular Sami song, it was originally a eurovision song, but has practically reached folk status due to its popularity
My channel is dedicated to anthems, hymns and patriotic songs, here is the link to our discord server: discord.gg/WtV...
Now wait a minute, this is the song that represented Norway in Eurovision 1980 :D
First joik but not last!
Also won the national selection in a tiebreaker by one vote
We should carry more folk pieces to this tipe of celebrations.
Yup
I was about to say why the fuck is a saami folk song in Norwegian
Finally, after a year, we now have another beautiful Sami song.
The Sámi are a really underrated people. Nice to see a Sami song here
Also I really like the map transition you did there, revolutionized asf
The way how the land of the samis moves to the screen while the singing is just beautiful.
Norwegian and Sami are interesting languages.

Happy national sami-day! I live in Norway and can recomend many sami singers😊. This song is a mix between norwegian and joik. Joik is the most common form of sami singing. They aren’t singing in any of the sami-language, but instead sing sounds and then give them meaning. I don’t know if that makes a lot of sense since my english isn’t the best, but i hope that some of you (if you understand) find there interesting
I understand, thank you
What are some good Sami singers? :D
@@oof5576 rOlfFa, Kevin Boine, Jon Henrik Fjällgren, and Frode Fjellheim are some of the most popular sami singers right now. Most of the popular Sami songs right now are one hit wonders sadly, so you won’t really hear a lot about Sami singers, but rather Sami songs.
@@Kromkampium07 thank you!
@@Kromkampium07Jon has grown to be beloved by the entirety of Sweden, that man has a beautiful voice, but sadly his last entry to Melodifestivalen barely saw him doing anything.
Also, don’t worry, your description of Jojk is as good as mine haha, I just find it beautiful
Why does every scandinavian song sound like it's from an end of a movie
Norse? The norse culture went extinct by splitting ages ago
@@mariasirona1622 I mean scandinavian
They are uralic
@@Iconix69 no the norwegians aren't
@@mariasirona1622 the song is in Norwegian and one of the Sami languages, but most of the song is in Norwegian. And even though the guy singing is Sami, he is still a Norwegian citizen, so the song can be considered Scandinavian

Love this song. And it is the one from the 1980 Eurovision too. Sweet.
Even though joiking is a traditional form of singing, it has found its way into modern-day pop culture through adaptation and commercialization by various artists. One notable example is the 1980 Norwegian entry "Sámiid ædnan" for the Eurovision Song Contest, which features a song predominantly sung in Norwegian and interwoven with joiking in its chorus. Subsequently, this song has been occasionally used as a game chant by Norwegian football fans
As a 100% ethnic Norwegian, I respect the Sami a lot. They belong here just as much as we do, and their culture is a part of our culture
we were here first of course we do, we helped nords thrive here there has never been a conflict between saami and vikings :D
@@ballmunch6714 Sweden asks for forgiveness for what happened back in time when they did racial experimentation on Sami people

Holy shit the transition
This song gives me christmas vibes
Very cool i love your videos you are best
Thanks for the subtitles, I like to sing with even not knowing Norwegian! 👍
Who don’t, eh?
I personally am a Finn, but I find it absolutely unbelievable how Finnish goverment acts towards Sami people. Sad thing is I don’t know what to do. Almost none of any rights towards Sami people have gone through. I would love to see Finland and Sapmi getting actually good relations without stealing etc.
If the sami have the same rights as Finns then it is good, you are aware the sami people drifted into an already settled Scandinavia right? Its not like they were colonized and displaced.
@Penderyn So you are telling me the sami do not have the same rights as any other finnish citizen, that they legally are an oppressed people? Which rights do they not have equally?
@Penderyn The sami are a nomadic people, they are not native to scandinavia, they moved into the scandinavian peninsula through the Karelia region. Tell me one example of sami not having the exact same rights as the other citizens in Finland Norway or Sweden, because in many things they have rights the non sami do not.
Our government finds troons more important than our indigenous people.
Yes Sami people could learn to live without subsidies from the government.
Preformed at Eurovision 1980 by Sverre Kjelsberg and Mattis Haetta.
Love 💖 Sami people from Lebanon 🇱🇧
I really like Ural languages and Nordic people. Also I celebrate Sami National day for all the Samis out here! Respect from Azerbaijan 🇦🇿❤🇷🇺🇸🇪🇳🇴🇫🇮
🇷🇺🇸🇪🇳🇴🇫🇮
Any Sami who are to see this, I hope we can still co-exist as friends despite what we did to your people in the past. We know now what we did was wrong and I hope we can mend our bond
This song is not merely a folk song, but rather political. It refers to the Sámi activists' hunger strike in 1979 in front of the Norwegian parliament, protesting against the damming of the Alta river. The protests failed, but it was a turning point in the struggle for Sámi rights in Norway. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alta_controversy

Sami republic when?
probably never since the sami are a minority in their own land
@propagandaman7573 Dadtja
@volklied Lappland are their native lands as the germanic people that are not sami (such as geats or swedes) are native to the south of the scandinavian peninsula, but yes the germanic people have been on the scandinavian peninsula much longer than the sami
@volklied Well, that basically confirms what I just said. According to the history of scandinavia, the first people to inhabit lappland are the sami
@volklied that is in fact exactly what it says. We were in Scandinavia first, but in the south. They came to Scandinavia later, but in the north instead.
the song is like a blessing from god
i know sami-norwegian culture is...y'k...good.
it is to bad the swedish bastards didnt see it that way and used god to use eugenics on us
It's what Santa Claus listens when it isn't Christmas season.
I don't know why but this sounds like a Christmas song
Back at it again, join us in Oslo from the 11th of October!
What painting is that in the background?
My love song thank you for video
I'm so tired of seeing wrong maps, the Sami does not come from Scandinavia, it's another siberian tribe
The same way Norwegians come from the Pontic-Caspian-steppe? Or perhaps take it back further and look at humankinds origin in Africa? While the Sámi did have their origins near the Urals, their culture is uniquely Scandinavian as they have developed their culture and life in Scandinavia for thousands of years, away from Siberia. The Sámi homeland showcased here is the correct homeland
This is remarkably understandable for an English speaker that knows some German
Norwegian is very similar to both German and English
