    I owned the OG Desert Eagle chambered in .44 Magnum. It was a 6 lb pistol that in my humble opinion ...seemed to be the ultimate outdoors man's pistol. It just seemed to be indestructible and when we started plaing with load combos we finally settled on the a 180 JHP that was screaming out through the chrono @ 1750 ft per second. I shot one of the desert eagle loads in my S&W 629 and it barked with about a 4ft flame. Realizing that was probably lucky that didnt blow up my smith because I was running 320 gr 1250 per second on the SW&W 629. The eagle loads were extremely hot by comparison. ....You can run but you can't hide :)

    • @bladeduffer
      @bladeduffer Місяць тому

      @@Buck-kf6xq Yeah, reliability issues arise because of ammo selection. It's operating system doesn't allow you to feed it whatever you want like a Glock. However, these guns are supremely over-built and is beautifully made. I bought my Israeli made DE in .44 back in 1988 . I've fired several thousand rounds and it still works perfectly. That is, if I feed it what it wants. Hot ammo. The hotter the better. Whenever I've deviated from Magnum Research's recommended ammo or simply try to your average, garden variety 180 or 240 grain factory loads, the guns gas system will not cycle. At the start and through most of the 90s I used Israeli made Samson ammo and a particularly hot model of PMC cartridges. They worked perfectly. The Samson loads, I came to find out, were just about Buffalo Bore level, overpowered stuff before BB was even a thing. It's a literal hand cannon that's super accurate and super easy to shoot if you can manage the weight and size.

    I adore my ol' 50AE. It came to me in a box from an unnamed gunsmith. I have since put an ashamed amount of 50AE down range. Not one malfunction. I baby it though, so that helps. I clean it every session, and diligently clean the gas ports on the barrel. NO CAST LEAD!!! Only Hornady XTPs, even with my reloads...

    • @TheColosiss
      @TheColosiss Місяць тому +5

      @@PeasantKing-od5lg There are many expensive guns that need to be babied. Many older collectible Single Action Colts need proper loads, and need to be well maintained to not damage the actions. Many collectible com-block weapons have been damaged from corrosive ammunitions and a lack cleaning. Many expensive 1911s can be a chore without a labor of love. MP5s need the rollers checked and bolt gap measured.
      Many delayed-rollers develop a bulge in the receiver if not maintained and fed a heavy diet of +P ammunition and/or running suppressors constantly. Thus, I do not run any suppressors on any of mine, and I use the softest loads the system can reliably feed on. Many firearms need to be babied in different ways. I can name more if you'd like.
      Desert Eagles are no exception. They need to be lubricated, cleaned, and fed proper ammunition to function 100%. That is especially true for the .357 and .44 variants. With the rimmed cartridges, they can rim-lock if not loaded correctly.
      Not every firearm can be used and abused without consequence. They are all machines. Some break easier than others. Some of the toughest can fail with mistreatment.
      Few more examples:
      M1 Garands can be damaged with modern 30-06 loads. Many get aftermarket adjustable gas-ports to run modern loads.
      Collectible WWII rifles from many countries with war-time bluing can develop surface rust if not oiled.
      Smith&Wesson X-Frame revolvers have a tendency of being damaged from people slamming the cylinder home, or spin-flicking them. I've seen more than one that needed to be fixed, in different ways.

I own four DE's all up. All Mk XIX's, one is an Israeli IMI with fluted barrel and one built by Magnum Research before they were acquired by Kahr Arms in Burnt Bronze....really nice.. My newer DE:s are SRMB's with the integral breaks. All the others are brushed chrome plated or fully stainless. I have been shooting this platform since 1989. I shoot target and metallic silhouette comps with it out to 100 yards with and without a red dot and it is a very accurate firearm when handled correctly. It is still to me one of the most iconic semi automatic firearms in the world.....period.

    Hickok, I don't know about you but I bought a Mark I .357 a few years ago as a result of an ill-considered bargain with a buddy that involved buying one if I ever saw one for sale below a certain price. Woe was me when shortly thereafter we spotted one in a Cabela's used stock. Once I shot the thing, however, it changed my mind; the most powerful Magnum rounds I could find were like midrange loads. If it wasn't for the fact that I'd have to borrow your thumb to get the safety off one-handed, I'd carry it just for the "Holy cow!" factor... 🙂

I shot it about 50 times after receiving it and found it hard to handle due to the short grips. I have gorilla hands with frankfurter fingers. I contacted AMT about an extended magazine but they couldn't help me. Funny thing is, I decided to sell that 50AE and shortly there after they announced extended magazine for all their designs. I think I only paid like $350 for that thing new. Their are pretty valuable now!

    Yes DE can be holstered, at least for show. But so can the M1A1 with a folding stock, at least for show.
    I’m pretty sure if I was expecting trouble and these were my only two options I’d take the carbine. At least double the ammo and I stand a much better chance of hitting what I’m shooting at. If I wasn’t expecting trouble idk why I would carry either over any number of other pistols.

    i think it's misunderstood cause most people don't spot the niches it fits in. bear countrys, sure makes sense.
    but if looking at how home defence plays out in israel this adds another point. just recapture what happened last year, that was a threat ever since. a reason why settlements in such areas are mostly enclosed and having own militia for protection. those calibers are able to be still lethal even if someone is hiding behind a wall or door. that is a different breed of bears to deal with in israel.
    yes it replaces a large caliber revolver and adds the option to reload faster, might be softer to shoot and offers better target hold in 357 and 44 in such a scenario. then it might replace the M1 carbine as well, a very popular choice for home defence at that period and still today. a handgun simply does a better job in shooting around corners, but then mostly missing a powerful cartige the M1 actually has in comparsion. deagle is in between those and i still wonder why they never made a double stack 20 round .30 carbine version.

      I believe he said they were called Talon grips and he had to trim them from a larger Glock frame size. That talent does not make any specifically for Desert Eagle.

      @@CJ4S147 Thank you. I am considering removing the factory grips to see where they can be trimmed/sanded down to fit my hand better. The.44 isn't hard to shoot, and I love having that much power when I'm out on the tundra picking berries in Southwest Alaska where I live.

      Much to like, though not for everyone. My biggest issue with the ten is it is said to throw the brass into the next county. Not great for older reloaders with sore backs.

    I had frame number 809 in .357 mag. police confiscated it in the UKs 1997 handgun ban. We still have plenty of gun crime in the UK though.

      Same in France, took all the Grand Pa' 22lr and 32.acp they could , still asking citizen to bring their family fire arms or relics, even black powder one or knives only to have drug violence going crazy with black market 9mm & 7.62... At least now the dealers and gangs can protect themselves from regular citizens i guess.

    I love your video presentations and have watched them for several years but my main complaint is that when those small long distance targets (to include the gong) are engaged the camera tends to stay focused on the shooter rather than being zoomed out to watch the impacts on the targets. Watching the shooter being rocked by recoil just isn't as entertaining as seeing the various targets being knocked around by the bullet strikes.
