FYI you can buy neodymium magnets with a hole in the middle, they are fantastic for stud finding as you can make a nice small pencil or awl mark dead in the centre. I keep half a dozen in my toolbag for just this purpose. But they have a secondary function. If I drop something or need to fish something from an awkward place you can use the hole to screw the magnet to the end of a stick etc. Much more secure than tape which always falls off in the worst place (don't ask me how I know lol)
Personally I keep my range of plain thread screws that I have for wall plug use (say 20-30 of each, and more of the common ones) in a bigger organiser together with all the wall plugs/fixings. So that one box and the SDS drill case is everything I need for wall fixing jobs, instead of one box for screws and separate box for plugs. I don't use any self-drilling/cutting screws with wall plugs like you mentioned in your other video so they stay in the separate screw box only used for wood working etc.
The core fix are fantastic. I've used them to fit a 75" led TV(36kg) to dot n dab walls. Regarding the hollow wall anchors, do think the sizes might refer to the expanded diameter? I use rawplug Uno red, brown and blue in plasterboard walls for items up to 15kg where the forces are acting mainly perpendicular to the plug. They expand along there entire length and start gripping as soon as you insert the screw. Keep up the good work.
Great video, like the idea of the adjustable spacers, just not confident how strong so far as compression goes when hanging a radiator on a 40mm insulated plasterboarded brick wall.
Thanks for the Video Andy. Those magnets are a great idea, but just FYI they won’t be any good at finding pipes, 99% of pipework in UK houses is copper which is non magnetic, and obviously it’s plastic in the newer houses anyway.
Hello! Could you possibly do a video on fixing to metal studs if you get the chance? I've moved into a new flat and they're everywhere! Thanks for all the great content!
I normally just do a little pilot hole and then use normal wood screws but you have to be REALLY careful not to hit anything hidden inside the studs. It's a bit of a gamble. 😢👍😀
Well, Andy, I see you moved out of your shop, are you moving to a bigger and better? Or have you decided you need a smaller shop? Thanks for all of the videos that you share! Felix
I wonder if you could measure pull-out force on thermalite blocks with: bare screw without plugs and screw with plug(s) when you pour a bit of diluted pva into the hole. I made experiment with PVA and i think it is much stronger but can't measure that.
@@GosforthHandyman renovation of new house? I hate moving. Good luck mate, at least your getting work, all quiet here coz of covid19 so might go broke yet. Let me know if you need a carpenter 😂🤣 no, really....😢
I bet when Andy is short of something to say to visitors he gets his Stanley Sortmaster out and starts talking about fixings lol Can't wait for your videos working on your new gaff, stay well!
Hi Andy, thanks for the video, looks similar to my assortment box , but as a diy,er I bet I only use a quarter of what's in it , but it's comforting knowing you've got it all whith you, lol. Advice wanted need to put length of cleet wood so can hang a tool cabanet (bit heavy) but want to take off wall some times that's why using cleet to hang it on what fixings would I need to use for the length of wood (cleet) to the secure to a plaster board hollow wall if can be done thanks in advance

If you would like to receive some “saw-anchor” plugs designed for use in aircrete/AAC walls I will be happy to send some from Thailand, I think that they may not be available In the UK. They have extremely good holding power in those soft blocks. If you would like to try these just let me know. I did try to send an email a couple of months ago as I was going to come to the U.K. but it probably got missed in all the bad things that have been happening. All the best, stay safe.
The "mystery" one's aren't designed for use where you have tiles. They're used for double layer plasterboard or multilayer with OSB/ply and plasterboard. That's why they still have the teeth to help stop the fitting rotating in the plasterboard before you have fully set it.
Thanks for the video. I was wondering why you don't have any 'helter skelter' screw fixings for plasterboard. I use them a lot but then I looked them up and found out what drawbacks they have - see for example ua-cam.com/video/xjF827bxPFQ/v-deo.html

The videos on Corefix have been a revelation.Used for the first time on dot and dab with vertical radiator and what a solid fixing
Cheers Andy👍🏻

Thank you! 👍👊
Nice to have you back Andy - another useful vid. Have a similar box but no magnets - great idea thanks.

Those magnets are brilliant. I bought a row of them last year to locate studs throughout my house, and they haven't lead me astray.
Always informative .
Great channel .
Stay safe everyone

Oh, I more meant that unfortunately the pipes and cables often run inside the metal studs. 😢👍

Cheers Felix! Moving house so not quite sure what the new shop will be like yet - probably a bit smaller 👍
Where have you been ? Great video.
Cheers bud! In house move limbo at the moment. Lots of stuff going on behind the scenes. 👍😀
Great video thanks
When you measure a screw or bolt, you measure without the head(unless it's a v shaped head) , hence the difference in your measurements!

I made experiment with PVA and i think it is much stronger but can't measure that.
Wandered where you got too. Why did you fold up your shop, are you still working? Did you set up somewhere else?
Cheers! Moving house and got a big renovation coming up. There'll be a new shop but I'll be 100% on the renovation as lots to do. Watch this space. 👍👌

The teeth are pointless when you use a setting tool. 👍
Fischer vs Rawlplug showdown?
What stud sensor do you use?
Me encanta tus videos :)
Hollow wall anchors - perhaps the stated measurement is the tips of the wings when expanded inside the wall?
Checked and it's not that either - very odd. 👍😂
Subbed!! 👍👌🌞
Hi Andy could the hollow wall length that makes no sense be how much it spreads behind the wall once you’ve used the setting tool?
Checked and it's not that either! 👍😂
