Thanks for the videos....I am really depressed, as I have my PhD defense next week...I am wondering, if I could not be able to answer 60-70% questions, will they fail me???
Thank you for your question! So, you can roughly divide the questions between questions regarding the introduction and questions regarding your PhD project. The vast majority of questions will be the questions regarding your PhD project and to answer them, you will need to talk about what you did during your PhD and why you did it! I'm sure this part is going to be easy and you will not struggle at all! When it comes to the introduction questions, everyone struggles with them and the examiners will never expect you to be able to answer them all. Even if you struggle to answer 60-70% of the introduction questions but still manage to explain your PhD project to them, you'll be absolutely fine! PhD viva failure rate is very low, at least in the UK, and that is not because the student didn't know the background but because they didn't understand what they did during their PhD programme and why they did it. I hope this brings some peace to you! You've got it, you've done the experiments, and now you just need to tell them about it! And then you can enjoy your hard-earned title! :)
Excellent tips, thanks, Mathew!
