There is a kit that's on Cosmos Inks ($75) web page but its been on there since sometime last year. Hopefully, they are close to releasing it. I'm debating on sending my 7820 back and getting a different printer or just waiting it out.

I put my first ink cartridges in from the initial ones that came in the box and I did an update on my computer because it needed an update and I hadn't printed anything and now it's saying that I need to take the initial ones out but I haven't printed anything with anything on it at all and I refilled it brand new with sublimation ink do I have to buy more ink cartridges than change the chips all over ?
So if I only have say 2 colors that printer says is low and needs changing. Can I only swap out the chips for those 2 colors only? Or do I have to replace all 4 at same time with matching set of chips .. even if ink wasn't low in other color(s)?

What if you just keep ink in the refillable cartridges and don’t let it get to the low setting? Will you still have to replace the chip every so often?
The chips don't actually measure the ink in the cartridges, they go by the number of prints you make with the cartridge. In fact normally when it says the cartridges are empty, you can shake them and there is still ink left inside...They only want you to buy new cartridges, don't care if ink is inside the old ones still... stupid printer says they are empty, and it won't work until you get new ones.... Imagine if Chevrolet said you have to buy gas from their gas stations and it cost 5 times as much as other stations. And then the vehicle wouldn't drive if you didn't fill up, with their gas... That is the same thing.... almost...

From what I understood you have to buy new epson cartridges to replace the chip on the refillible or reusable ink cartridges on these model's I came here for this same question

Make sure that the cartridges have the chips on them correctly. there should be 9 gold pins on the chip. 4 on the top row, 5 on the bottom. if the chip is upside down or not making contact with the chip reader in the carriage.

Different type of firmware in the 78xx style (812/802)chips. And different system firmware than the previous (76,77)models making it harder to get around Epsons security measures. The current work around for the 78xx is to remove the main board chips and reflash them with ET16600 ET15000 firmware. Then resolder them to the main board. At this point the printer will think it's an ecotank and never ask for ink. The XP15000 works with chipless firmware and prints 13x19 and is about $300 cheaper than the et8550, et15000 or et16600...

My ink lid doesn't align, (the 2 arrows), thus I cannot open it to replace them. I'm about ready to rip the GD thing open. this is a problem which has haunted me from the very start.

I changed the initialization chips out with the xl chips before they ran out. I'm still on the xl chips that I replaced with...however, I don't use this printer for everyday sublimation. I mostly use the xp15000 or a small format printer like the xp4105 or 2830/2850.

Probably never. They will more than likely have a chipless firmware option only. The chipless firmware probably won't be available until later this year.

The initial cartridges that came with the printer the count was at 40. The retail box set would be more. But I got word from a good source that they are currently in development of a chipless firmware for this model that should be out soon.
Hi! I just converted my 7840 2 days ago with new cartridge chips, and everything has worked perfectly except.. I have only printed 3 actual images (outside of the printhead cleaning) and they are all now reading less than half full!! Is this going to be a normal thing... That is wayy to costly to even be worth it if so..
If you are using the initial cartridges that came with the printer they have less ink than the normal 802 carts that come in their own box. The 802-i cartridges have enough ink to initialize the printer and maybe do a few prints.
@@McZell They aren't the originals. I have had my 7840 since November. I had a set of new cartridges, that's why I thought it was pretty crazy they're that low after a couple prints. It only took me about 10 print head cleanings or so to get the sublimation to the correct printing color. Surely those 10 print checks didn't use almost half a cartridge?

Sublimation ink wont work for regular printing.. It is incredibly light when printed. The heat is what activates the color in the ink. I had to purchase a small Epson 4100 so I could still do all my normal printing. Hope that helps!
Hello there. I just opened my box, did this exact step and ran a test print. It worked. Then my printer did an upgrade and now it will not read the cartridge. It says Initial cartridge detected. Do I have to go and buy new cartridges to perform thi step again?
Why would you take the chips off of a brand new set of cartridges, to put onto a set of refilled cartridges? That makes no sense at all... If you have to buy a new set of cartridges every time, why not simply install the new cartridges....
At the time this video was made the only way to get 812 chips was from original Epson cartridges. Epson has restrictions on 3rd party clones of the 812 chip. Which is why we do not sell them on our website. Some sellers do but are taking a risk. But, If you can find refill cartridges with chips then yes it would be better to use those.
@@McZell I'm sorry, but I still don't understand the logic in buying NEW ink cartridges, then removing the chips to put them on refillable, "one time use cartridges". I mean you have new cartridges in your hand. To buy more cartridges, and ink, so you can switch the chips.... all for using them only the one time just doesn't make sense... in my last few epson printers i was able to use the CISS systems and it was just print all you want as much as you like...and the refill cartridges were actually refill cartridges...but epson had doesn't like you to use their printers for more than a few years and has them give unfixable error codes...

They might. Im not sure. It may take a while to get past the security on the chip.

There are many factors but you'd get more out of xl cartridges.

Make sure the chips are not upside down when you place them on the cartridge.

I would definitely avoid using a workforce, just go get a eco tank.. Dealing with the cartridges will drive you crazy.. I have the WF 7820

Make sure that the chips are placed on the cartridge in the right orientation.
Do you have instruction on how to convert this printer BACK to a reg ink printer?
You can put the original Epson Cartridges in and print a purge file and you should be set.

There isn't a way yet..they are still working on a chipless firmware for this model. It could be later on this year before they complete it.

in my last few epson printers i was able to use the CISS systems and it was just print all you want as much as you like...and the refill cartridges were actually refill cartridges...but epson had doesn't like you to use their printers for more than a few years and has them give unfixable error codes...
The wf-7820 and 7840 are trash.
this video is not telling me anything new. all he telling how to do is go to staples, office depot and buy cartridges and take the chips off and put them on an empty cartridge. waste of time bro.
