He is a legend. Everything he wins goes to help people in Houston. I haven't been to the store in the time I've lived here but I've heard he actually just hangs out in the store talking to people, and he's known to randomly just donate furniture sets to those in need
I used to work a lot with charity foundations for their fundraiser galas. Mack and Linda(his wife) are at almost all of those galas and Mack is often the guy who's pushing other philanthropists to commit more. He's a genuinely good dude.
He is a marketing genius. His first add after making a little profit was him holding a handful of cash jumping up and down screaming Gallery furniture really will save you money. That was 35 40 years ago and everyone thought he was crazy and anyone in Houston that even mentioned furniture thought of the crazy guy jumping up and down with a bunch of money. Plus every time I've gone there he was at the front door and greeted me. Great guy.
I'm wondering as well. It almost sounds like he gouges his customers so that he can bet their money on a very small possibility, and if he wins he gives them their money back.
@@farfromirrational He doesn't gouge anyone. He bets on a Houston team like the Astros and then promotes a deal so that if they win, all his customers do as well. They get their money back but is paid for by his bet. If they lose he takes the loss on the bet but gains from the advertising and additional sales from the promotion.
He takes the money people are already going to spend and places a wager. If he wins, they win and he gives them money back on their purchase. If he loses, they still have what they bought.
okay so the guy Mac runs promotions where certain big purchases are refunded if certain teams win. Since that promotion would cost a lot of money if the team wins, he bets money on that team winning. If the team wins, he gets paid and refunds his customers, if they lose then he just collects profits from the furniture sale
@@ya9412 he loses the bet but he gains a ton in furniture sales from running the promotion because essentially his customers that all bought 3k or more in furniture lost their bet to him.
Yes but to offset a 10 million dollar bet he would have to sell like 50 million dollars worth of furniture to actually profit the 10 million dollars to cover the bet. How is that even possible to sell that much furniture? Something doesn’t add up.
Mattress Mack is probably the single most helpful and charitable guy in Houston. He’s given more than I can write here to the people of Houston. He deserves a giant monument. Holidays. The works.
That gentleman doesn't "lose" money. His commercials are obnoxious but he's a marketing genius and he's crazy generous when the chips are down for the city of Houston.
He is the most generous and creative philanthropist in the Houston area. His ideas for giving back to the community don't stop at just Houston. He makes significant impacts anytime there is a natural disaster regardless if what state is suffering.
He ran a year-long promotion, somewhere along the line 'Get your money back if the Astros win'. Then he bet 13 million dollars on the Astros. If they win, the winnings will be used to pay his customers. If the Astros lose, consider it a marketing cost. Win or lose, Mattress Mack got all the publicity for free. Brilliant.
Hes actually known in houston to be a very amazing man who truly loves his community, ive lived around his store my whole life and hes a pure soul. Hes known for many things other then his gambling

Great guy.
This is way above my pay grade, can someone put this in layman’s terms for me maybe?
She explained it really poorly
I'm wondering as well. It almost sounds like he gouges his customers so that he can bet their money on a very small possibility, and if he wins he gives them their money back.
@@farfromirrational He doesn't gouge anyone. He bets on a Houston team like the Astros and then promotes a deal so that if they win, all his customers do as well. They get their money back but is paid for by his bet. If they lose he takes the loss on the bet but gains from the advertising and additional sales from the promotion.
@@gyan1010 Nope. It seems that didn't understand it either.
He takes the money people are already going to spend and places a wager. If he wins, they win and he gives them money back on their purchase. If he loses, they still have what they bought.
As a native Houstonian, Mack is a local celebrity and regardless, he's very generous to the community.
He's been a LEGEND in Houston for DECADES!!! He always says he'll "save you money!"
I have no idea what she is explaining……. Like literally lost
okay so the guy Mac runs promotions where certain big purchases are refunded if certain teams win. Since that promotion would cost a lot of money if the team wins, he bets money on that team winning. If the team wins, he gets paid and refunds his customers, if they lose then he just collects profits from the furniture sale
so far I' with you.
But doesn't he loose the money he used to place the bet if the team looses?
@@ya9412 he loses the bet but he gains a ton in furniture sales from running the promotion because essentially his customers that all bought 3k or more in furniture lost their bet to him.
Yes but to offset a 10 million dollar bet he would have to sell like 50 million dollars worth of furniture to actually profit the 10 million dollars to cover the bet. How is that even possible to sell that much furniture? Something doesn’t add up.
She didn't explain it very well...
Mattress Mack is probably the single most helpful and charitable guy in Houston. He’s given more than I can write here to the people of Houston. He deserves a giant monument. Holidays. The works.
How is this confusing to you guys? She’s speaking English
It's the numbers. It's 9.5 million dollars and weak minded people can't fathom that dollar amount to get they're head around the hedge concept.
That gentleman doesn't "lose" money. His commercials are obnoxious but he's a marketing genius and he's crazy generous when the chips are down for the city of Houston.
from what I read he is a very kind of generous person but from what I've seen he's also extremely smart.
This guy is extremely nice to. He's done more for charity than anyone in this city
He is a icon. Still works at the store every day. Still gives away ice cream. dude is a walking angel.
Pay attention to the comments. This is how we all should seek to be spoken of....even in the hate filled internet comment section. Props to Mack!
I love a comment section like this !! Salute to you mattress Mack !
Good man 👨 big heart. Helps people when their in need.
Guy is a Houston Legend. Love him. And he is brilliant for these wagers. His hedges are brilliant.
He’s a business genius. And he’s been doing it for so freaking long.
He is the most generous and creative philanthropist in the Houston area. His ideas for giving back to the community don't stop at just Houston. He makes significant impacts anytime there is a natural disaster regardless if what state is suffering.
Creative investing, sometimes revenue is not always what is generated but his advertising, building customers. He is smart.
During the hurricane in Texas, he let people in his store to shelter. He’s a good dude. We need more people like him out there
He ran a year-long promotion, somewhere along the line 'Get your money back if the Astros win'. Then he bet 13 million dollars on the Astros. If they win, the winnings will be used to pay his customers. If the Astros lose, consider it a marketing cost. Win or lose, Mattress Mack got all the publicity for free. Brilliant.
I find him to be very intelligent and humble he does alot for his community
Hes actually known in houston to be a very amazing man who truly loves his community, ive lived around his store my whole life and hes a pure soul. Hes known for many things other then his gambling
I live in Houston and MAC Is an amazing person who loves this city. We are blessed to have him.
This guy is a legendary business man and bc while most of these wealthy CEOs make their fortune off scamming poor people and making people work for starvation wages, this man props up his community, he opens his showroom doors during natural disasters and is just a real OG ❤️
