Twitter rebrands to X, UKTV rebrands to U. What's next, Apple rebranding to i? Screw it, let's just rebrand everything in existence to a single letter. :D
In 2019-2021, the Grammarly advert was everywhere. And I remember people talking about it. Also Raid shadow ledgends sponsorships on UA-cam were a massive thing in general conversations when Raid Shadow Ledgens had lots of sponsorships.
Well in France they have the 'U' chain of supermarkets (Hyper U, Super U, U Express), grocery delivery (Courses U) and service stations (U-tile), so using a single letter as a brand isn't new. Also, I love a ridiculously camp TV ad that makes you question the company's sanity
U&Dave is good sounding, U&Yesterday is decent, U&Drama is dodgy, and U&W is awful but overall, the channel names get the job done in my opinion. U is objectively a good name for a streaming service. And as you said, the visual elements of the rebrand is good.
Funny seeing this video, shortly after receiving an advert on the Channel 4 Streaming Service about this very service. Why is it called U? It makes no sense, UKTV was better.
I have one thing to say to UKTV... ''What were U thinking?''. And if they have to rebrand at least lose the '&'...U-Dave, U-Yesterday would be slightly better, but to be honest they need to do a 'U-Turn' .
I literally sent it to my friends on our group chat at lunchtime today as soon as I saw it on UA-cam then I saw a metro paper headline about it on Facebook so the rebrand is getting a bit of promo out of it😅
Can’t believe you got snubbed by the cher tribute! As a tribute myself (not to cher though 😂) who also does theatres i really hope that it was just a misunderstanding or woman who was performing as Cher didn’t know it was happening so was just going through what was normally rehearsed for that part of the show but if not it was very rude of her! Brilliant video by the way! love your channel! 😊
It somewhat makes me think of how UA-camrs rely on recognition of their brand identity, which is kinda why my channel has the G4p TV brand as that is a collaborative brand between me and some friends of mine.
Has she done much since the 90s? She was big in the 60s singing that cod hippie-folk song; and made a name for herself in the 70s and 80s as a "gay icon" as her looks started to fade, rather like Madonna 10 years after her. At this stage, however, she just wants to pay off the pension contributions and the remaining instalments on the plastic surgery- while "U" goes about sacking its entire back-office staff and restructuring its finances under cover of a rebrand. After all, 90% of the Dave and Yesterday schedules consist of playing back recordings from the BBC and other channels. As for the logo, Unilever may have a claim...
@@anonUK There's always a certain type of person who can't talk about Cher without mentioning her surgery. What's the issue, is she not allowed? I thought she was a grown woman who could make decisions about her own life. It's just sad when people use that to try and insult her but fails massively. Also, yes, she has done a lot since the 90's, maybe do your research if you don't know!
Wow this U brand has managed to remind me of a children's tv show from the 1980s that I remember watching at Primary School called "You and Me" Gary Wilmot was one of the presenters. Thanks for sharing about your Cher interaction. Sounds like you were set up. Good to see though that you survived it. ha ha
Dreading when they turn the gold channel to u & gold…but that channel hasn’t been rebranded for years so I know they will do the dirty on it….i hope they look at the negative feedback and decide to not go ahead
I'm actually starting to come round to the U branding. It's, bold, distinctive and noticeable in a landscape of ever increasing noise and clutter. I remember when UKTVG2 was rebranded to Dave, everyone thought it was a mad name. But it became one of the most fondly recognised brands on TV. I think U is a more suitable brand for today's market than UKTV. As mentioned in this video, UKTV does hark back to a bygone era of branding. It had become familiar to the point where it was becoming invisible. My reservations are with the way that the U now leaches onto the established channel names, and I'm not entirely fond of the logo. I suspect that people will not refer to the channels in conversation with the U included. Which may be the intention. The U logo feels a little cheap, it doesn't give me the sense that I'm heading towards quality content. It's got a bit of a supermarket value range vibe to it, the ones which try to create the impression that you're buying quality yet actually fool nobody. But I'm not against the U rebrand now. It's growing on me.
Well David hasselhof does adverts for farmfoods..Sylvester Stallone and the Muppeta do ads for warburtons crumpets,Kevin Bacon does EE mobile/Internet ads....
Wouldn't it be better if they used the word and the meaning ' You ' instead of the letter U then at least it would mean your with you and the you channels .. could promo it as ' Let's all come together with YOU... YOU AND DAVE YOU AND DRAMA YOU AND W YOU AND YESTERDAY so instead of Cher you have people in the advert that appear in programmes that they show on their channels then we could have a new channel called YOU like a sky showcase kinda channel showing various programmes from across the YOU tv network also on freeview and Freesat aswell The the slogan ' let's all come together with YOU ' would be good on this new channel as its bringing the channels together....
🙁 im really getting to be embarrassed to identify as British... America dont even bother trying to get one over us, as our child your worse, much, much worse ive been embarrassed for a while, is pluto still taking entrees? Futurarama telling me otherwise ☹️☹️ i am so done with this ridiculous and pointless "branding"
It’s stupid, makes no sense, they say it’s because of the u streaming service but it doesn’t make sense why even the streaming service couldn’t be called u play
If the best branding people can come up with is a singular letter, then I'd be more than happy to say that creativity is long gone. Twitter becomes X, UKTV becomes U. I guess the BBC will become B in the next few years. (joking)
Erm..... I saw it played and thought what on earth is Cher doing adverts again like she did in the early 90s haha! She's got enough money she don't this Babe! But nice to see her green screened everywhere but what on earth Cher
I'm surprised how they didn't wheel in Julian Simmons for this. "Welcome to the UTV!" All facetiousness aside, what is Cher doing on this? Oh, wait, just for the "you/U" pun.
Nintendo taught us that taking a well=known brand and adding a "U" never ends well.
The Wii U so they went with NintendoSwitch they switched U. Booo.
@@WarlordMoA The Nintendo Switch is a way better console than the Wii U, The Wii U was basically just a Wii lol it was pointless.

UA-cam rebrands to $.

U actually works as a brand for a streaming service though. At least I think.

So dissatisfied that they didn’t get Julian Symons out of UTV retirement to give him a retirement job 😅 And now on the U Tv something is 😊
On U&Dave's startup we were given a new U off air loop
i saw that live are u on about the loop just after the teleshopping and whos line is it anyway?
I WANT TO SEE IT

Fuck me thats alot
The branding is cool, especially Yesterday's new idents. its the naming that sucks.
Fully agree!

Oh no, snubbed by Cher. 😂

They obviously need to tweak the app I've tried it on all my devices and the picture quality is poor at the moment .... Great video thanks 👍
GMB was reporting on this ad campaign.
What Ad Campaign
Of course this happens on my birthday
To quote a joke said in a nostalgia critic video to have my reaction to cher doing adverts for U
"Do you believe I said yes to this"
Oh, boy! I can't wait to try watch the channel under the new U(GLY) masterbrand!
i was actually recording this ad one day and the camera was not having it, maybe my tablet's camera hates the new advert and rebrand?

Cher. She seems expensive.

I believe it’s called “money” 😂
I think a better song to advertise U would be "If i could turn back time" given most of the content on U or UKTV lol.
Can Cher watch U in California? 😂
It's a bit like Twitter being renamed to just 'X' - confusing because it could be anything!

An advertising campaign fronted by Cher? The idea might have legs ...
I used to like ‘U.K. Play’. It had Lenny Beige doing their version of ‘Total Request Live’.
The whole "U" branding feels a bit weird!
Reminds me of a certain bird that got rebranded.

Why is GOLD not got the rebrand yet
The pay TV channels will rebrand at a later date.
