Good topic and great video. I went out and bought “all” the sunex impact sets so I had a complete set up to 36mm, then bought a second set for my other box (1/4 master, 3/8 master, 1/2 metric master, 1/2 SAE master, 1/2 metric universal, 1/2 SAE universal) and other than some job specific 12 point I added I have never wanted for an impact socket. (1 3/8 works for 35mm just fine etc.) Can’t say I have broken one (or for that matter used even a quarter of the ones I have at all) but the send a pic and we replace it warranty and price sold me. Seems like all I really use outside of lug nuts are the usual suspects 8, 10, 12, 13, 14, 17, 19 and then those are all in the 3/8 master set which stays in its plastic case and comes with me to the vehicle (either on my cart or on the floor if I am under the truck). At the other shop I take the metric 3351 master, but I am always wishing I had extensions in it so those ride separate. Oh and the wobble impact extensions are pretty nice and if you ever need to do a trans spend the money and get the long extension and thank me later 😂
I have the 3/8 master metric set from sunex. Shallow, deep, swivels (all 3) from like 7-24. The only thing that kinda bugs me is the sockets are flat in the bottom/dont have the chamfer/taper like most sockets so the socket has to be perfectly aligned/have to look while putting the socket on the anvil or extention or they wont just pop on. Never realized how much of a difference the chamfer makes w ease of putting the sockets on the drive end. Other than that, they're pretty good sockets. The swivel sockets are collared so they are definitely quite a bit thicker, but theres only been a couple times that they wouldnt fit into a tight spot. As far as wobble extensions, probably top 3 best thing i ever bought. I got the chrome ones from harbor frieght and husky, as well as impacts from harbor freight. I also got makita wobble adapters for 1/4 impact driver/gun. Love those things. My buddy has the snap on wobble extensions, pieces of junk. They wear out too fast and the sockets dont stay on. Koken makes nice ones where the plus part to keep them from swiveling actually holds pretty well. Some of the others dont actually hold in the non swivel part all that well and kinda too easily pop back into the swivel part when you dont want them too
I got the sunex 3/8 drive master metric set. Its got shallow, deep, and swivels from like 7-24 (in all 3) no skips and was about $150-160. Really good set. The swivel sockets are the pinned/collared ones, so they are a big chunkier, but havent had times where they were too thick more than once or twice, and i use them a ton. Never had any fail. For the price and amount of sockets you get, you really can beat it. The one thing i didnt notice before i bought them, the drive end the anvil goes into is flat, its not chamfered/tapered, so you gota look when you put the socket on the anvil because wo the chamfer, the sockets dont align themselves and just pop on. Never had any other sockets that didnt have the chamfer so didnt realize how well the chamfer actually works until i tried putting the flat bottom sockets on wo looking. Not a deal breaker, but a bit of an annoyance
I've watched my 2 co workers break their 3/8" drive semi deep swivel sockets (15mm) numerous times. They're snap on. I have the same style kit, no name brand, bought it off amazon. Never broke one.
Snap on makes the absolute worst impact sockets. The drive end gets so worn out so fast its not even funny. Way too expensive for such a piece of junk. Never had a problem w my sunex impacte, not even the pinned swivel impact sockets
The SnapOn universal sockets are the most expensive because they say Snap-on on them.. The pinned design is inferior to the pinless. The pinless design disperses the load across a wider area.. that's it
I have the pinned sunex in impacts. Never had a problem. Maybe twice they were too thick for a really tight spot. I have the snap on chrome pinnless, never use them. Always grab the sunex first. Ive used the snap on pinnless maybe 2 or 3 times. Ill never ever buy snap on impacts. The drive end wears out so fast. I know far too many ppl w snap on impacts that are so worn-out on the drive end its not even funny. Way too expensive for such a piece of junk
I recently got an impact double swivel half 1/2 in from Koken. Haven't had to use it yet but it looks pretty well made if it's like the other tools I have from Koken then they gold
@@rwbishop every one of their tools I've used has been smooth as silk Prince to shame Snap On. Nepros there other KTC manufacturer is like works of art. The Chrome is three times what I've seen anywhere else.
I am considering the Icon set which looks like it has a collar and pin. Will likely wait for a HF sale. Seems like Icon could be most competitive, price and relative safety wise compared to your Snap On set. Great video!
Those huskys are the same as the gearwrench x-core, which from my experience are horrible. I’ve had to warranty the 17mm 3 times and have since given up on them. For swivel adapters I’ve had pretty good luck with Tektons pinless and for collared ones sunex and grey pneumatic have been decent though a little bulky. I recently got some Astro pinless, that look quite similar to those Olsa ones, but I’ve haven’t really tested them out yet.
I have zero need for impacts of any description... and I'm _absolutely_ fine with that. However, if I were in the market, I think I'd order up a small sampling of Koken impacts for a 'test drive'... they show a huge selection on their website, and I haven't heard any complaints.

Torque Test Channel tested different swivel designs a couple of years ago, its worth watching.

I have pinless Matco and pinned snap on. I’ve broken 1 Matco and 0 snap on. I’ve used them every day for 13 years. Both seem to hold up very well.
Good information. I’ll be reading the comments for mechanics feedback.

How long have you had the sunex swivels? You work professionally?

I’m firmly convinced that if at all possible, a good standard impact deep socket is best whenever possible.
Love this guy, reminds me of clean version of aVe

That Koken is a class act.

Easy on that trigger finger, 1st rule of impact safety “don’t point that impact at anything you don’t mean to unbolt” 🤣

Well analyzed
Those X core impact swivels like the husky/gearwrench etc bind up and get floppy after like 1 use. Worst impact swivels I ever used.

Welded in pins play hell with both pin & body heat treat/temper.
unrelated/FYI/future-video-fodder: new snapon longnose slipjoint announced today in the PL344BCF set. Impressive "trigger discipline" btw 😄
I have the bare handle set on order. Will ship early May.
Snap on is robbing people blind for those prices on those sockets

Yeah, … “ Well my Dad can beat up your Dad” 🙄
Time to break out the popcorn and let the socket wars begin
