To me this is the best way to make box joints (or finger joints). I see lots of youtube videos with $200 dado sacks and complicated advancing jigs, but this method seems to produce great results with the least amount of effort and expense. Thanks!
I can listen to this bloke speak all day long. He has a great accent! Plus, he has a kind of common-sense, rough-and-ready, no-nonsense approach to making stuff which makes a nice change. AND!!!!! He has a black fingernail, like a proper carpenter. So yeah, I reckon it's time to hit the subscribe button :)
About time someone puts out a video I can understand ! I looked high and low to find a way to make box joints. With out sending a bunch of money. Thank you and keep up the good work!!!!!
Yeah man thank you! I love it. Apart from the fact my home made router table is a bit out of whack around the bit, I have just made a kickass box joint. Did it in light and dark wood. Its going to be for exposed corners on a work table drawer for middle daughter. Its a simple join but it does my head in working out the fingers. Then I am going to make some drawers to finally organize my fishing tackle. By the time I have done that I should get the hang of it.
Sooo, I built this jig yesterday following your excellent video. Only thing I'd like to add is that you can stack the pieces that need routing out using the offset block and route two pieces at once, saves a bit of time and gives a very accurate result. I doubt this is news, but worth pointing out if (like me) you've never done it before.
Festool and (much cheaper, and possibly the same thing but rebadged) ELU do them. Only problem is they're normally 8mm shank so you'll need a new collet or at a pinch, use an adaptor. I'm just finishing up making a dust extraction piece I can place opposite the jig then I can try it out and report back.
Would I be right thinking that a spiral bit would cause less tear-out? Just worried about the expense of buying one and then finding there is very little improvement.
I've seen so many videos where the finger joints were un-equal and having slivers of a finger on one side, that 1/2 finger hack was a piece of genius, lovely even finger joints, well done
Thank you for making this video. Your explanation of how to center the finger joints in the workpiece by using a spacer is most helpful. I am anxious to get into the shop to try this out. I bought a spiral bit as suggested by others.
Thank you for your excellent explanation. I have followed your instructions and now I can make beautiful fingerjoints. I hope to learn more from you in the future.
Yet another great video demo. I will be trying this out I the near future. I really enjoy your no nonsense easy to follow videos. look forward to your next one.
Bien hecho Sergio! Y ademas, bien explicado de una manera sencilla y facil de entender en Ingles. I speak mostly English, and enjoyed your video. Thanks for posting it. Oh, by the way, me subscribi a tu canal. Gracias!
Sergio, Thanks for showing your method for the router! I have one I made for the table saw, but sometimes I would like to have the router option ! Your video is well done and there is no doubt I will be cutting box joints on my router this afternoon.
Good job and I could understand you just fine thank you for the tips on wood working that even my wood shop teacher didn't teach me keep it up you just got another subscriber.
Best demonstration and description for a siple box joint jig I've seen, also. You are easy to udersand and explain things very clearly. I'm a new subscriber, too. Thanks!
Thank you very much, Sergio. Although, there are many other finger joint jigs on UA-cam, I find yours one of the best, because it is simple and explanations/guiding is right to the point, focused on the project without much unnecessary talking. I made one exactly the same jig and it works just fine, but I have to ask you how to avoid chipping. I used new ½” bit, but still one side chipped badly. Any tips will be very much appreciated. Thank you.
Thanks for sharing. It looks very simple when you do it. But I am sure that in reality some problems will occur. I am going to try this in the near future because i want to make some boxes and this is the strongest corner connection.
I could not see a Router but do like your jig. I am looking for a table because it would be needed but as yet space is limited. I am not yet confident but like your safety!

Thank you Sergio. It is always a pleasure to watch your videos to inspire me to make more tools for my man cave :)
Good video! Clear and without wasted time. A very useful method of using box joints without a table saw. Thank you...
Thank you very much. Not many videos are as clear as this one. I particularly liked the use of the shim on the last joint.
About time someone puts out a video I can understand ! I looked high and low to find a way to make box joints. With out sending a bunch of money. Thank you and keep up the good work!!!!!

Whips through it nicely with a spiral bit.
Following up on this, my dust extraction sucks (not in a good way) but the spiral bits are working very well indeed.
Would I be right thinking that a spiral bit would cause less tear-out? Just worried about the expense of buying one and then finding there is very little improvement.
I think so yes.
Thank you! The trick to put a half finger on each side is very helpful.
Thank you Sergio! Looking very easy! God blessed you for showing video 4.0!!!
I want to make finger joints based on your explanation in your video. Keep posting!👍💜
