- Welcome to Run 1 and a shakedown test for the @cw-01creations46 DT-02 Speed Competition 2024. This modified DT-02 was originally a Holiday Buggy and is my entry in the BRUSHED class.
This comp is open to anyone around the world with a Tamiya DT-02 and there are super prizes for the 2 classes, brushed and brushless. Check out the rules and prizes in Peter Smith's video here:

LRP 14x2 turn brushed motor
Tamiya Hobbywing 1060 brushed ESC
19T pinion / stock spur gear
Full ball bearing conversion
3600mAh NiMh and Zeee 5200mAh LiPo batteries
Stock chassis with extension plates
Tamiya Neo Scorcher body
Home-made alloy front wing
Great runs Mark and congrsts on the 36. I was really curious for this as I had seen Rob's video before.

Dang! You guys went full drag race mode on these!!! That was a great run Mark and nice speeds! I hope to work on mine next week and get it out for a trial run soon. We will see if I will be able to top that!!

Fascinating stuff Mark. It's 'thinking outside of the box' videos like this that elevates your channel and content beyond most others. Who would've thought to lengthen the chassis of a Tamiya buggy so it looks like a dragster or an F1 ( I can't decide which ) and then do a speed test. Brilliant stuff and so original. My guess for the Lipo run was 35mph, so not too bad. Awesome, that was so cool boys..👍🏻🤝🤘. More of the same please..🙏🏼🙂.
Many thanks, dude! I'm glad you like my thinking... I looked at how the front suspension assembly fitted to the chassis and a lightbulb lit in my head! These buggies are very skittish even at 20mph so i wanted something the tame that. As a bonus it looks pretty cool too! And I can report it works perfectly. As you can tell I was chuffed with that LiPo run - good guess mate (closer than mine!! 😅)

You might be right! The tyres are holding up well at this speed but as we hop-up the power it might need foams! Cheers!
You turned your DT-02 into a snow plough 🙂29mph but gearing is a pain on these so limited. Wow 36mph on Lipo so cool. I use Zee Lipo's

This is awesome! Those Dt02s look amazing extended. Almost like an F1 car.😁 Very stable at speed too with that super long wheelbase. Im sure it can go even faster.. easily.👌😁

Hey brilliant mate and yes, very nearly the same as with my brushless set. So we need to get on with trying a 22t pinion and I'm going to put in the 4600kv motor I have. Your long one definitely keeps its front end down better than mine! Great start to the weekend and I now need to check out what Rob did. Hi Pete, how you doing mate?!?! Oh yes, we are closely tied at the minute but with your 4600 motor and higher gearing you are going to be hard to catch! But I'll give it my best shot to beat you even though we are in different classes! Yes the stretched chassis is stable and keeps the front down just as I hoped. I really ought to get my first run uploaded. Unfortunately it was before the 2S restriction so it's not a valid run as I was on 3S, but there is something entertaining about watching a car slide through 4 frames of video on it's roof at 52km/h.

I was hoping to give Pesky Pete something to worry about, and I did, but he's got a massive one to slip into his (A huge brushless motor that is!). So I don't think I'll stay so close for long, but you never know!

As for the battery..... I know there isn't supposed to be a huge difference between a 6 cell nmh and a 2s,but I've noticed a lot in some instances.
I think the age of the batteries makes a LOT of difference.
Some of my 3+ year old nmh packs are so slow.
Compare a brand new 2s lipo to an old nmh and there's likely to be a large performance difference.
I also think the discharge rate (c) on modern lipos makes a noticeable difference when it comes to these kind of tests.

This one will be a convertible, with Mr Hanky the speed run poo sticking through the top!

Hi there dude and thanks for the tip. What I didn't show though was that the wheels had completely locked-up when it stopped. Either it overheated or a small stone was stuck in the motor and it freed off when I forced the wheels to turn. All the best! 😎👍

My dt-02 has arrived, its second hand and built and I’m just checking the spur gear. I know this has to be standard. How many teeth does the standard one have? Do you know?
Hi Nick. I just counted the teeth on the part in the build manual, I think I got it at 54T 😎👍

Nice. Quite curious how you lengthened the car. I’ve just purchased a dt-02 second hand, so will have a crack at this at the weekend.
Cheers Nick. It's actually really simple to extend the chassis, you just need to make a couple of plates. I used 1mm alloy and cut it with tin snips! The front suspension and steering is a single unit that can be moved forward, the only fiddly bit is moving the servo onto the bottom plate you make, but it's quite straightforward. No sure on the rules but try a smaller spur gear and a slightly bigger pinion gear 👍 it will get over 40mph
Thanks Thomas! The rules don't allow anything other than a standard spur gear, but a bigger 22T pinion is allowed. I managed to squeeze in the 22T and that run video is coming out tomorrow. See if I can break the 40mph barrier! Cheers! 🍻😎👍

@@MarkBryanRC lol tell me about it after having a 15 break from it I’ve got back into it and gone crazy on an old tt-01 Tamiya 😂 changed everything but the biggest improvement came from gearing and motor from a 61 spur 19 pinion to a 58 spur 23 pinion with a brushless motor 2s lipo 45 mph
