I love my Janome machine. I’m in the process of replacing it to a much better model but at roughly 14 years old it’s still going strong. The main reason I’m getting a new one is I can afford to get a much better machine now. I’m not trading in my old one because it’s worth more to me than I’d get trading it in and as it’s a lot smaller and lighter than my new one I can use it as my portable machine for workshops, classes etc.
I have two Janome machines and LOVE both of them. Almost everyone I know who sews, has a Janome. You made a wonderful choice and I predict you won't regret it. Enjoy!
I bought this same model about 3 years ago and absolutely love it! I sew every week and have no complaints about this machine. Also it was about half the price of a similar model Janome that had a few more upgrades to it. Highly recommend.
I also just upgraded from a Pfaff to a Janome that’s almost the same as yours. Mine is a 6700. Love mine so far! I hadn’t thought to see if the feet fit on both machines.
I’m so glad you are happy with your new machines. Sadly, my brain does not relate to Janome, 🙄. I’m a Pfaff girl through and through. My brain speaks Pfaff, lol
I hope you're loving this machine now that you've had it for a few months. I just purchased this exact one after weeks of research. I went over my initial budget, however I decided when I found this 6650 that I should invest in a machine that would last a long time. I also could never afford a Bernina, but then I read one review online from a quilter stating she loved this Janome more than her Bernina - I was sold!
Do you still love it? I have two Janome’s and I love them. The first one was used and is still a great work horse. After many years of using it and getting much more into quilting I bought another one with a few more bells and whistles. Two of my favorite features are the hover feature and the 1/4” quilting stitch. If you have not yet tried the leg lifter it is pretty handy.
I love Janome brand!!! That’s a beautiful machine!! I am no where near being able to buy one of those… but I did just buy a 1941 Singer 66-18 electric!! I have two Janome embroidery machines :)
Nice video with lots of info; thanks! I’ve been thinking about a new machine, but haven’t gotten serious yet. I have the exact Pfaff your mom gave you, bought it in early ‘90s when I had a sewing business. The embroidery stitches came in very handy. Now I want to quilt and the Pfaff is very difficult on larger items. Now to go read some of your blog posts. 😊
I hope your machine brings so much joy to your sewing. I love my Bernina 350PE which I purchased five years ago. I sewed on vintage and inexpensive machines my whole life until then and this machine was a game changer. Happy Sewing!!! 🥰
I am so happy for you. I have a Janome old but still good. I believe you’ll love it. I have a baby lock for most of my sewing. Love the throat space on that machine.
My Mom taught me to sew in my teens on her machine. It’s a Phaff 360. I used it in HS to make myself cute tops, vests and whatever creative idea popped in my head. LOL. My Dad bought it for her when I was 3. I just turned 60. I had it serviced and it is an amazing work horse. I had owned a singer and a white that both quit on me in my 20’s and 30’s and then when my Mom passed I started using her machine again it to make quilts. I do love it. Very easy to thread. Operate…although….Like you mentioned with all your machines it has its limits. Thanks for the blog post and this video. I kinda started researching on saving for a new machine and purchasing one but it’s pretty overwhelming. My local quilt shops seem to push Bernina. One I looked at was $16,000. That’s more than my car cost and I have a fairly nice used car that was a dream that my son sold me. Anyhoo… does this machine do free motion quilting? I will look at the link and it’s features. 😀 I have been tossing around the idea of purchasing a handi quilter for quilting my own projects but it’s 5,000 for a table model. I may be able to find a used one at a lower cost. Again, I will read you post on your blog and this may help to define my needs/wants. Thanks for posting this video! PS. I purchased your pillow case PDF and made a bunch of cute pillow cases for friends and my adult kids for Christmas this last year. Simple great pattern and tutorial!
thank you for sharing about your sewing machine! And thank you for buying my pillow case pattern, I'm so glad you liked it :) This machine does do free motion and even comes with the free motion foot!
Years ago, I bought a new Pfaff and was so disappointed to find how inferior it was to my old Pfaff. Instead, I bought a refurbished Pfaff, the same model as your mom's. It's great, but not as intuitive as the newer machines. I also bought a Juki for straight-line sewing. The combination works great for me, but your new machine looks marvelous!
I thought I would be a Pfaff gal for life! but I do think the reliability has changed since outsourcing production (I believe they used to be made in Germany).
I stopped watching your video on my TV to comment via my laptop. Because I like you and your content very much. I hope this feedback is recieved the way its intended. To be helpful and possibly improve subscribers. Its my opinion... your a great instructor... energetic... creative.... again love the content. I find myself getting frustrated and fastforwarding .... less chatter more to the next point is easier when watching a video, in person I'm sure this would be fine. Again I dont mean this ugly and its one persons opinion. I like you enough to take the time to share this. Thanks have a blessed day
Congratulations! Very nice and happy for you and wonderful tips! I started sewing eight years ago and bought the Singer quantum 9960. It’s been a great machine and still is but eventually would like to upgrade.
Thank you so much! I'm so excited I found your review. I've been a subscriber for a little bit but didn't realize that you taught sewing to kids. I do too and I love it! I have two homeschool groups right now. I have several basic brothers in my studio and have a few workhorses as well. I've been interested in buying a new machine because like you, I have never bought myself a really nice machine and I would LOVE a larger throat size. My cousins and aunt are faithful Bernina users but I just can't pull the trigger. The frugal part of me just puts my foot down. So I narrowed it down to the Janome Memory Craft. I'm hoping my local dealer has it!!! The Janome Memory Craft 6700 is double the price of the 6650.
Great video! I appreciate you talking us thru the features and what made you decide on this one. I have a Brother from about five years ago and someday I hope to move up to a machine like this. I will definitely keep it in mind.
Congratulations! I have a Brother sewing / embroidery machine. However, I have not been interested in embroidery so . . . a basc sewing / quilting machine is also my preference. Congrats again!
I am trying to surprise wife. It's down to a Janome MC6650 or the Juki DX-2000QVP. Man it's nuts to decide. Wife quilts and sews bags ,clothes and crafts. Nice video. Thank you
I have a Juki serger and it's been great too. I'm sure you can't go wrong! This Janome is very heavy duty, can sew lots of thicknesses like butter, and has the huge area for quilting!
@magskl672 I got her QVP2000. I hit a home run. She loves it. 2 years in hasn't had an issue, she's sewing up a storm. That machine is smarter than us. Lol
After watching your videos, I decided to buy a Janome MC6650 like yours. It is brand new out of the box and it is making a weird noise when I stop Sewing. I just wonder if you ever had any trouble with your sewing machine and if you still like it? And does it do everything you expected it to do? Thank you I love your videos. You’re very straightforward and very easy to understand.
It is a semi industrial machine, so it does make more noise than others! I think I know the noise you mean so I think it’s normal, but I can’t know for sure if it’s the same noise mine makes lol. It also makes noise when you push the thread cut button.
Bernina is overrated. I’ve had both… and still have them as I hate to get rid of electronics unless I can give them to someone who understand the value…but Pfaff/Janome are top of the line in my opinion. The only exception would be a non-computerized older Bernina. I recently purchased a longarm called a Moxie because it was within a reasonable price point at $5,000. It takes a lot of space but it’s like drawing with thread! My son has CP and is in wheelchair and he’s able to quilt once I get it loaded up.
I have a 1973 singer that is more heavy duty machine structurally than heavy duties of today. I used it for flannel and denim, and bags, also had a basic 3yo 20 stitch machine for lightweight clothing. Now my 20 stitch jams every time, tried everything to fix it. Now I can’t use it. Now I use the 1973 machine all the time. It has 3 stitches. Enough to sew clothes with. I would like a modern machine, I don’t have the budget to get one.
You really can’t beat those old workhorse machines, I’ve been so grateful for mine! Thankful for the new one too, of course, but I’ll never part with that 1960s Pfaff 💕
@@PinCutSew Same with my old one. I would get it serviced before buying a new one, it’s lasted almost 50 years without being serviced, but I’ve maintained it regularly, by cleaning and removing old grease and replacing the grease.
I just bought this machine and I love it, only had it 2days. I'm having trouble with the needle threader, I have to manually put the thread under the hook on the last step. I hate to send the machine back for that little problem. Anyone else had this issue? I ordered from Amazon with free return. Just would like advice please. Thanks!
I've found my needle threader works best with Janome's needles, and when I make sure to make the needle screw pretty tight with a little screw driver. But honestly, it's still not perfect!
Great video. So happy for you. My machine broke tonight and have been looking at machines. I am really interested in this one. Where did you get this one?Does it have drop feed dogs?
Hi there! I've had it for almost a year now and could not be happier! Yes, the feed dogs drop. I just got the walking foot for it and have been quilting and I've never had a machine quilt so easily in beautifully in my life! It's been really great, a dream machine for me, for sure. I got mine on Amazon because I didn't have a dealer nearby. I made sure to choose an option with free returns just in case there was anything wrong!
would like to know if you still love the machine - I read an honest review and the woman stated it was very finicky with feeding the material - said it eats the material of she is not super careful. just curious before I spend the big bucks? (I am new into sewing bought a janome 3160 and I basically really enjoy making simple purses and zip pouches - the 3160 is great but when trying some thick corners and boxing the corners I find it a tad sticky..nothing unmanageable but I doubt I could graduate to making more elaborate purses without something a little beefier).
I’m still very happy with it. I think machines eating the fabric is almost always a case of wrong needle choice! For what you said you like to make, you’d love this machine.
I've been looking into getting this same machine. Seems like everything that I want is there, except one thing that you didn't mention. Does it do backstitching?
I do use it a lot, but it does still leave a tiny thread to be snipped, but I definitely wouldn't say it's a problem. I DO love it when I'm top stitching applique or something and don't want a visible backstitch. I can push the knot button and then the cutter and it knots and cuts it on the underside, so the top looks perfect!
