Great career advice! Wish I would have heard this a long time ago. I really like the idea of the ham radio test before getting into IT as a way to feel if a career in tech is a good fit.
First 60 seconds are so true. Many years ago I used to work in a tech background in academia. My boss at the time used to shun people who she would call “hobbyist’s “ and preferred employing people with degrees. I even recall her saying one day that “people with degrees are just a better class of people”! Wow. I went off her quickly. I believe people who “tinker” or have a hobby in technology, setting up their own servers etc etc, are far more likely to make better techs, sysadmins etc! 73 de G6PHF
