🇺🇸 What do you think about what is becoming of Mexico City? What are your views on immigrants calling themselves expats and moving to Mexico City? What do you think about gentrification? Are you Mexican and what issues are you facing as a result? What areas of Mexico City would you suggest someone staying in if they actually want to integrate and improve their Spanish? So many questions and a very divisive topic! Let me know in the comments! The next video is another 4K walk in Santa Maria la Ribera! CONDESA ISN''T MEXICO CITY!

I like your videos and style as you really not just try, you blend and integrate to the place where you're at the moment
Very well balanced and impartial for each video
For that I say that the situation (no to say "problem") with the immigrants is that they coming from much more higher buying power countries and they easily buy or can afford anything they need without much care on the price and then when locals realize that the services or products are in good demand, not only increase the price but their value and availability, wether it's Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, Guadalajara, Real del 14, Ajijic the increase of immigrants specially USA nationals have caused skyrocketed prices for real state which is unfortunate as they not only take the best places to live but they don't even try to integrate just looking that people that will speak English not trying to learn any Spanish or give back anything to the place and community where they live in... sadly!
      Laws need to be reviewed!

I think the problem is more related to expats or migrants living in one specific spot. If people with plans to stay longer disperse more within the city the gentrification would no be possible, Right now, Narvarte is raising prices of some stuff. For example, hair saloons are getting more expensive now, in the past I paid 50 pesos for an haircut in my area. Now I have to move to other colonias to find good prices. Government should promote and encourage migrants to live in other areas of the city.

I was late getting to this video so I hope that you are all well, now, on the topic of gentrification, many folks in the U.S. will complain that immigrants coming there do the same but I think for the most part it is different, I know there are plenty of educated and wealthy Mexicans', but by rule they are not the one's moving to the states, it is usually the less educated and poor who are trying to have a better life and take jobs that pay nothing, the immigrants from U.S./Canada are generally educated and have money, not all, but a good majority have an attitude that they should be catered too, they also drive up prices for the poor, that also happens to neighborhoods in the states as well but the two are different in the way that if you have money you have choices, when you're poor and uneducated you don't and the Mexican government doesn't have a welfare program like the states, let's hope that the money the U.S./Canadian immigrants bring spills over to the lower income people so they are not so displaced from the changes that are happening. Sorry for the rant.

We walked into Roma and those horrific gringo neighborhoods and made sure after that we stayed far away there terrible why would you want to visit México and then turn it into wherever you came from, pretty much all gringos walking round and can't even make the effort to speak any Spanish ATALL it's sad David man. Plus they've turned it into an area of Airbnb rentals so now locals having to shut businesses and move out etc etc. We also loved Narvarte though lots of really good food spots kicking around you know what your doing!

If I had to spend a long time in CDMX I'd stay in Coyoacan. It's mostly residential, upscale and quiet. I did find Roma to be a bit gringo-ified, and La Condesa is a fun neighbourhood to hang out in, but I wouldn't want to base myself there because it's got too much traffic and noise.
The most "authentic" experience I had in CDMX when I was there last month was when I went to UNAM to buy a Pumas kit at the club shop. I got there about 30 minutes before it opened, and I saw a young lady and 2 small kids selling mameyes on the roadside about 200 yards from the shop. I bought 3 mameyes, ate one on the spot and chatted with the lady and played with her kids for a few minutes.

So true about neighborhoods. I'd been living in Historic Centro near Bellas artes 4 month and year and half in Coyoacán. Of course, the best life experience was in Coyoacan. It is like distant village in the city. I had everything in my hood: cozy and fancy Centro de Coyoacan, mercadas and grocerys stors, lot of coffee shops and restaurants, parks. Transportation from there was amazing and fast. Oh, I miss my Mexican life. Thanks for this video, enjoy this amazing city ☺

Hello! Great Narvarte walking video, just discovered you here! I am a former expat (2004-2009) back in DF for just a few days. Racking my brain to remember where an amazing (and super wacky looking) tile covered house which i think was in Narvarte in a quiet area with curvy streets. The tiles have a gradient pattern on them, which if you see up close, have a “bubble” print on them, and each each tile makes a gradient from orangey-brown to white. (Tiles are from the 60s or 70s ans are fairly rare). Just wanting to know if you are anyone here knows this house and about where it is???? I’d love to photograph it, as I study the local character of design here. Any help appreciated!!

Navarte is earthquake prone too because it's located where the lake once was. The foundations are built in boggy land.
If a central Mexico City neighbourhood has got a Spanish rather than a Nauhuatl name, then it's more likely to be this way.

I find this entire area to be a bit too touristy for me. This is just an overflow area for Roma and Condesa. I still stay in central zones off Reforma but they're just not on the radar. I can still get to your area in 30-40 minutes by Metrobus. The main reason for me is because they feel more vibrant with the pulse of the city. And I speak fluent Spanish. So, I come to CDMX to force myself into situations where I speak Spanish.

Well, I am Mexican born in Mexico city, in the case of Condesa, the question here is: to what extent " Priced-Out " Americans will "Price-Out" Mexicans in Condesa.
Another question is how adjacent neighborhoods would experience, or rather resist a Spill-Over effect from Condesa.
As far as Americans calling themselves " Expats ", they always find subtle ways to call whathever situation they are in. The truth is as you suggest, they are being Priced-out from their neighborhoods in Chicago, California, NY, et. al. With exceptions, they rather are Immigrants, or simply " Priced-Out Americans "...
The ones I saw in your video do not seem to be the types that can move into Polanco or Del Valle....
