Really helpful tips. :-) I’m autistic and crowds can be very overwhelming and I lose sight of what I went to see and why I’m there. Thank you :-)

Spent 5 days in Iceland recently - Reykjavik, South coast to Jökulsarlon, up to Snaefellsnes via Borganes, up to Akureyri via Kirkjufell, down to Grindavik, and finally to Keflavik again. This was during the last week of October. I would have preferred to do it earlier in the year. Firstly: That late in the season, it was impossible to go tourist fishing in the sea. I had to try my luck in the harbors. Secondly: when one is going together with someone who is not an experienced driver on snow conditions, but still think that they are good at it, the mountain passes southwest of Akureyri beome downright scary.

thanks for sharing this Peter! Yeah, the October is usually something in between, but for me personally I really like this month for all the contrasts of orange colors and snow capped mountains. On the other hand, as with any other of the months, the weather in October can be miserable sometimes, too. Some tour operators are closing down for the winter by the end of September/October so that's a good point, it's a good idea to check beforehand which of the desired activities are still possible to do at the particular time of the year. Öxnadalsheiði pass next to Akureyri is a sketchy part of the road for sure, especially in the storm.

I’ve done both summer & winter, neither bothered me. But you’re right, summer is a lot more expensive 🤷‍♀️

That's good to hear you only had a positive experience Kate :) maybe its just me, Iceland spoiled me with some of it's amazing views and now, unless the place is empty, i'm becoming too difficult to please haha

@ don’t apologise for having an opinion! I’d love to see the Taj Mahal with only me in the pic 🤣

    Dear Jan,
Thank you for sharing another great video!
I've never visited during winter, and driving in snowy, dark conditions without proper road lighting (outside of cities) seems scary.
I experienced two days of heavy rain and high winds in June 2023, which prevented me from driving safely and most outdoor activities.
Are September and October usually the rainiest months?
Looking forward to your next video! 🙂

hi Harry! Thank you for sharing! It sure can be a bit scary sometimes, especially if one doesnt have much experience with driving on snow. But if you have 4x4, drive carefully and you follow weather forecast and road conditions closely then it's manageable :) There ususally isn-t much snow in September/October, but could there might be an occasional snowstom, especially in higher elevations. And they are considered to be quite rainy months, however again it depends, ive experienced both - whole week of rain but even a whole week without any precipitation :)

@@janiniceland Appreciate your insights, Jan. Now that you mentioned it, I may reconsider the time-frame for another visit to reduce the probability of snow storms and rain showers.

Nice tips! I want to plan a trip to Iceland next year in September. I don't have a license so I'm limited to buses and walking. I made some research and my plan is to use Straeto from Reykjavik to Vik and made some walking in different days to Reynisfjara, Dyrholey and Yoda Cave. After I plan to go with Straeto from Vik to Hofn and walking from Hofn to Vastrahorn. Return from Hofn to Reykjavik by plane. Do you think is it possible?
