Jake Cunningham, known often as Chaotrope, is an award-winning professional composer. He's known for releasing a bunch of notoriously difficult songs to the Rock Band Network. Many of the most difficult charts on that game (and countless hours of FC attempts) were due to this one individual. At times, his music was even considered to be "too hard for the sake of being hard."
However, I was always inspired and fascinated by his compositions and always wanted to create something derived from his music, but wasn't skilled enough at the time to create my own fresh spin. Years later, here we are. His melodies and rhythms are very catchy and replayable, and I hope that by upgrading many of his songs to real instruments, more people can appreciate the music we got out of the Rock Band Network years ago.
I deliberately chose to only include songs released on the Rock Band Network. This leaves out a lot of great material (for example, my favorite album of his is Broken Story, though none of those songs appeared on Rock Band), but considering this video turned out to be 25 minutes long, I think I was alright to leave a few songs out.
Thanks to Chaotrope for the music he's given us all these years, and I hope everyone enjoys this new take on his music. Welcome to Chaotropic.

Rock Band/Clone Hero chart preview: • Jarod Fedele - "Chaotr...
Wow. I’m at a loss for words. I did not expect all these tears… but here we are
First of all, /yikes/ these songs are all well over a decade old. And yet, every single note you played was PERFECT. I didn’t hear even single wrong note. This isn’t counting all the additions (improvements) you made of course, which were all expertly and professionally done. Those CHORDS in the intro of Thief 1 had my jaw on the floor.
And the TRANSITIONS!?!? Goosebumps on every single one. You made connections between these songs that I didn’t even realize were there. Seriously, the raw creativity behind this video is staggering. You weren’t standing behind me when I composed these songs, were you…?
I could’ve sworn you were going to end with Synesthesia (props for playing the remastered drum solo) but wow, Psilanthropy worked even better. You absolutely nailed it. Every aspect of this. I cannot praise you enough.
Bravo Jarod! I’m gonna go relisten to all your work because you are clearly underappreciated and ‘A Collection of Color’ is such a jam! You’ve earned far beyond my full respect and I appreciate you taking so much time to make this masterpiece.
You’ve been inspired by my music to create this, and yet now I’m the one who feels inspired… Imagine that.
You’re incredible, never stop.
This comment is life, just like this medley ❤
We all love you Chaotrope, you changed the whole Rock Band community with your music and this was a perfect tribute for all the amazing work you've done over the years. I speak for everyone on this, we appreciate you and thank you.
I am just now getting around to seeing this. This is the most incredible piece of work I've ever seen come out of this scene, if not ever
crazy to think that his charts have been out for 14 years and the final one just got done on guitar last month
We have the best composers, don't we folks?
I'm blown away. Being able to create something of this magnitude is an achievement, not to mention playing every instrument at a virtuosic level--you're on a whole different level than most musicians!
Too much talent in one person. This was incredible
Chaotrope is near and dear to us all in the RB community and this melody perfectly encapsulates how special his music is. I’ll be coming back to this for years to come.
The best Rock Band player to ever exist.
So what you're saying is you went from goat keys player to goat multi to irl multi omni-talented chad
Words can’t describe just how incredible you are man. It would be an honor to make music with you someday.
It’s Jarod’s world and we’re living in it!!!
youre so talented its really not ok
Whether it be your musical talent or plastic instruments you really do never fail to amaze me. This is actually amazing dude. Please keep doing what you do man I love seeing it
Man, it's such a pleasure to witness your insane talent. I can't believe how detailed and polished this is. Such an inspiration
I genuinely thought none of these songs were possible on a real instrument!!! And now you're playing them by yourself on every instrument holy hell 11/10
This is amazing, I'm without words. I never thought anything like this would even be possible, let alone as a one-person setup. Amazing work!
This deserves 10, 100, 1000, 100,000 times or more the views it's currently getting.
Impressive is not large enough an adjective to describe this.
This is the best nostalgia trip ever. Goosebumps the entire time. One of my favorite performances of all time!
Oh my god.
Simply incredible. So much nostalgia throughout the entire thing, makes me wanna listen to it over and over. The talent from Jake and yourself is just out of this world
This is truly amazing, incredible tribute
This is actually one of the greatest love letters I've ever seen to rhythm gaming. Jarod you continue to be a class act redefining the medium, kudos.
Please make a Patreon, I would absolutely pay for more content like this.
Same
Amazingly impressive. Guess that UCSB education paid off :D Serious throw back to hear all these songs again.
this is brilliant! agree 100% with the description; a lot of people might've been put off by the (at that point) subpar VSTi selection and overly difficult solos, but Chaotrope's compositions have always been great and massively creative - they always had something special in them.
your take on this takes the "rough diamond" that his old compositions are, and polishes them into their best form (with all due respect to the originals, of course - this version wouldn't exist if it weren't for those)
my favorite bits are how you added jazzy chords to some of the slower melodies (adding more variety to them, particularly 4:50 being my favorite), the E/E solo at 7:36 blew me away, and the acoustic guitar bit at 23:00ish is just lovely
great stuff! love every second of it
I am in love with this
Completely amazing, I love this
this man is insane
This is phenomenal. The music is fantastic and the editing is on point, I am baffled by how good this turned out.
pure love for the art and spirit of the game. you love to see it. good to hear from you again
Just an absolute superb tribute to decades of rhythm gaming from the best of the best. Much love, thank you for this
actually incredible
Incredible work, brings back a lot of rb memories. Truely inspiring seeing you tackle all the ridiculousness.
I have no word to describe how it feels to witness such creativity and talent all at once. What you built here is just insane and perfectly executed. Thank you for putting everything together the way you did, I am definitely going to listen to this over and over again for a very long time
astonishing performance dude! such an incredible show of talent all around
Incredible. I don't even know most of these songs (I just recognized a handful of themes) and this is still a superb listen.
I don't even know how to comment all of this medley, your accuracy and musical taste are top tier.
Really hope someone will make a custom out of all this work, as again you showed us the definition of talent on so many aspects.
He just released it ua-cam.com/video/C9IkR7dyaIg/v-deo.html
This is an absolute masterpiece, incredible
I love every second of this. You are incredible with anything you put into a video my good sir.
So impressed, though not surprised. I'm very grateful to have a music partner and friend as talented and adventurous as you. And a very familiar looking keyboard on that inverted camera... haha.
Gonna hop out of the grave for a minute and say bravo, my man. That's some talent you got there. Your efforts are quite astounding, and it's been awesome seeing you do stuff like this for a while. All the props to you.

Jarod... Mazegeek999... however you go by... I'm amazed by your creativity, man. Coming from a fellow musician myself, I'm extremely impressed by this medley. As I know Chaotrope's music quite well, too, hearing these songs all in 1 package is quite impressive! Well done!!!

Learn to play a real instr… Holy shit. Seriously, this is fucking incredible; I’m *actually* gobsmacked haha.
jarod, did you use the rockband charts to learn the drum parts? i learn tons of songs on drums that way, its actually really helpful
A lot of the songs I learned by playing them on Rock Band years ago, yes. But I also came up with many new parts for various songs.
