The foundation of it is a whole lot of players who have individual physical talent, but questionable attitude and character. Physical talent doesn't necessarily make you a winner at this level of competition. It's honestly why I've lost interest in the NBA over that past decade or so. But people have been trained to look at that as a sign that players don't care or will work less hard. It's silly. @@methus57, nah I agree with him. Steph, KD, Harden, and Lebron are the leaders of this mindset. I didn't feel like Giannis, Luka, Antman, Jokic, and SGA share that "It's just ball" mentality. No kawhi YET Paul George is scoring much less. Classic playoff p.
You can see his slow 1,2 step dribble drive a mile away, and if his three isnt going down he doesn't have too many ways to score. He is a bit easy to read for defenders because he isn't fast but also isn't physical compared to other elite forwards. This is the reason why he has never made the jump to being a superstar. Kawhi would back down or shoulder his way to the basket or dribble and physically create separation for his midrange. Harden especially in the past could use his handle for the three or to decoy for a great dribble drive. George has NEITHER. He is mainly a spot up shooter with an average finish around the rim. I've seen way to many games where he would take 12 threes and not do much of anything else other than a few deflections. He is way too prone for many POOR games, he truly is like a Tobias Harris 2.0. It's a harsh take but George is a perennial nonwinner and he just admitted what we all were thinking!

People under 35 wouldn't understand, when you get this age things like basketball games or winning and losing don't matter to you as much as when you are younger. Especially if you have children and a family, your priorities shift, money and relationships and friendships become more of a focus than anything.
Ginobili said something similar that when he was younger he used to get down on himself for days when he would mess up and cost the team a game but after he had children and got older he realized it was just a game and not life and death and was able to let the losses go alot easier as long as he knew he tried his best.

PG is at that point in his career where he would feel like this, a young PG would never say anything like this. You can tell, look at the difference in the responses from young guys compared to the older guys. The young guys are hungry which is why they're literally eliminating all the old head superstars. @@eddierivers3250 I don't know, I think with age people become more accepting of life and their reality. I can easily think of a way to justify why PG or other highly paid players that haven't won would justify not having more of a "winners" mindset in the tail end of their career, it's because they're not actually paid simply to win, it's an investment, they more than make the owners whole with ticket sales, merch sales, brand and sponsorship deals, TV licensing deals and all other forms of revenue. Owners want to see a positive ROI, they're not paying big talent just to win, that's a common misconception. Players are expected to pay owners back in 2 ways, on and off the court meaning on the court success and revenue, on the court success is just a bonus.
