I am agnostic..but i see how beautifully all the Vedanta findings leads to string theory, relativity, philosophy. World should seriously look into those. I once read every physicists believes in some kind of powerful entity.
@Rony So true, I was drawn to Vedanta because of Science. When I tried to understand Relativity and Quantum Mechanics I realised that somehow old hindu scriptures had similar ideas embedded in them. When I enquired more I came across Vedanta philosophy and since then I have been hooked to it.
You cunning people always try to get the share of greate people just by saying it is already in Vedas.Vedas are useless and very inferior to modern science only Vedas teach how to make people slaves of supertitions
Vedanta finding doesn't lead to any physics theories. Relativity, quantum mechanics, string theory are highly mathematical in nature and don't have anything in common with Vedanta. Please don't spread wrong information
On a different note, why such lectures are held at IITs and IIMs only?Agreed they are our premium institutes but wish such lectures could be arranged for average non-premium students like us as well.
I want to thank swami sarvapriyananda from the bottom of my heart for this deeply enlightening talk on "secret of concentration". Thank-you sir. This thoughts are life changing.
What is meditation? -- because this whole Heart Sutra is about the innermost core of meditation. Let us go into it. The first thing: meditation is not concentration. In concentration there is a self, concentrating and there is an object being concentrated upon. There is duality. In meditation there is nobody inside and nothing outside. It is not concentration. There is no division between the in and the out. The in goes on flowing into the out, the out goes on flowing into the in. The demarcation, the boundary, the border, no longer exists. The in is out, the out is in; it is a nondual consciousness. Concentration is a dual consciousness: that's why concentration creates tiredness; that's why when you concentrate you feel exhausted. And you cannot concentrate for twenty-four hours, you will have to take holidays to rest. Concentration can never become your nature. Meditation does not tire, meditation does not exhaust you. Meditation can become a twenty-four hour thing -- day in, day out, year in, year out. It can become eternity. It is relaxation itself. Concentration is an act, a willed act. Meditation is a state of no will, a state of inaction. It is relaxation. One has simply dropped into one's own being, and that being is the same as the being of all. In concentration there is a plan, a projection, an idea. In concentration the mind functions out of a conclusion: you are doing something. Concentration comes out of the past. In meditation there is no conclusion behind it. You are not doing anything in particular, you are simply being. It has no past to it, it is uncontaminated by the past. It has no future to it, it is pure of all future. It is what Lao Tzu has called wei-wu-wei, action through inaction. This is what Zen masters have been saying: Sitting silently doing nothing, the spring comes and the grass grows by itself. Remember, 'by itself' -- nothing is being done. You are not pulling the grass upwards; the spring comes and the grass grows by itself. That state -- when you allow life to go on its own way, when you don't want to direct it, when you don't want to give any control to it, when you are not manipulating, when you are not enforcing any discipline on it --that state of pure undisciplined spontaneity, is what meditation is. Meditation is in the present, pure present. Meditation is immediacy. You cannot meditate, but you can be in meditation; you cannot be in concentration, but you can concentrate. Concentration is human, meditation is divine. Concentration has a center in you; from that center it comes. Concentration has a self in you. In fact the man who concentrates very much starts gathering a very strong self. He starts becoming more and more powerful, he starts becoming more and more an integrated will. He will look more collected, more one piece. The man of meditation does not become powerful: he becomes silent, he becomes peaceful.
shashiji, meditation is looking into self. experincing sensation that goes inside our body. you can experience it now itself. just close your eyes, take a breath inside slowly and while inhalation try to experience sensation, the air going inside will first touch your nose then mind, heart, stomach and every part of body. now calmly exhale it. during exhalation try to feel the same, that air inside your body is coming out via your nose. while doing all these be calm and try to feel sensations, meaning that air is touching your inner body parts for ex- organs, skins etc. in very less time air gets in and comes out, therefore you will need lots of practice. what i told you is first stage of meditation which we called as "anapaan". meditation is the most powerfull thing in this world. the only person who did it to its extreme stage became buddha, the only enlightened. all hindu gods need shastras( trishul, talwar, bhala etc) to show there strength. buddha, the enlightened one brought down hinduism to his feet without any shastras. a person of meditation with bare hands is most powerfull.
Wow! am moved and touched by another Bengali..such a scientific spiritual lecture to achieve materialistic goal without being changed his spiritual core but still be on path of self realization is absolute. Bravo Sarvapriyananda swami.
Listened it at a point of time when I am lacking concentration and facing innumerable hardships that life is throwing at me but it rejuvenated me to face these challenges and take them in stride. May be still striving to attain that flow but I am sure this lecture of Swamiji is the first stepping stone towards that and opening my senses. Thanks Swamiji from core of my heart!
Namasté Swamiji, your lectures are just pure bliss! You have a wonderful way of explaining even the most difficult subjects (such as "Who am I"...). Thank you so much for these postings which are illuminating and an inspiration. Please, can we appreciate some more of your precious workshops? With best greetings from Europe, hari om tat sat!
56:23 Curiosity is a way to block from outside noise (pratyahara), using feedback. Heavy underlining and set up problems and ask questions before reading, an intelligent way and avoiding to create a struggle. There is concentration, and thus flow.
Guruji . My eyes filled with tears of sheer ecstasy. Im so blissed to listen to this lecture. I wish I could make my mother understand it too via you yourself. Unfortunately she dont understand english and she wont listern my words through your emotions.

Thanks to the students of IITK for arranging these series of lectures. I had listened to the earlier lectures by Swami Sarvapriyanandaji in August 2012 at the same venue. They were awe inspiring. Ever since, I have always tried to catch up with his lectures - to the extent they are available on You Tube. Such eloquence, conviction and scholarship is tremendously inspiring.

43:00 regarding distorsion of time, to put it into clear words, long times become smaller so they make you suffer, and short times like the moment of now becomes bigger so that you experience it fully/deeper. This is one of the basic symptomps noticed by people who are just beginning sexual abstience, from the increased vitality in their mental centre...
Incredible teacher! And the way he combines all the fields in order to regain clarity and to find the way back home... Awe inspiring. I am wondering if there are any books written by him. Does anybody know? Thank you in advance. Greetings from Vienna, Janette
Swamiji, I Thank You for your Generosity and Contribution to Humanity! Thought: Most valuable and invaluable guidance, learning and bliss delivered in this lecture is enlightening.

It is alway pleasure to hear you.thanks for talking about knowledge which lndia almost lost.would like to thank all the yogis of the Rama Krishana mission.
This Swami is doing a presentation on concentration and someone is filming it for a roomful of people with no concentration skills. Look at people coming in late, standing up and walking in front of the speaker and camera. Flashing pictures... The Swami and cameraman did an excellent job of concentrating with a group who showed no attention or concentration at all? Why did these people even show up for this lecture? India or the U.S. this is rude and disrespectful behavior. I guess the person who turned off the mics for Q&A was not concentrating and in the flow... Excellent presentation by Swami Sarvapriyanandaji Maharaj, well done!
Dave Holt It isn't. And from being from a place like that I can tell you people have a lot of patience and concentration esp at that institution. Coming late definitely is quite common but a lot of the times coz even daily necessities eg good commute is not so prevalent as in the west. If you don't know of the institute and people who study there you cannot comment with a blanket statement :).
Varun Vikram It doesn't matter if the people have patience or concentration . There is no excuse if so many people are coming in late and moving about in the classroom, blocking the camera. Ur comment that people come late due to lack of good commute is even more laughable esp. if the lecture is at evening 6 pm. Dave isn't questioning the institute, so drag it into the debate. Just because you are from a place like that, doesn't give you any right to defend late coming. And just because its common, doesn't mean its right. Keep your opinions to yourself and don't misdirect people as if you represent the whole of India
Vikram Batra Well I would like to make a few points. First if my opinions are for whose opinions are you expressing here ? If yours then you counter your own point. If anyone else's then that is even more sad won't you agree. Second the other guy Dave is not from India. As Conan Doyle says "It is a capital mistake to theorize before you have ALL the relevant data. One insensibly starts twisting facts to suit (their own) theories rather than theories to suit facts. He has no clue ( unless I am mistaken and he is from there) the amount of different things are within the place from things out. Leave even that, I doubt if he would have any idea of time and commute it takes to just go for window shopping in Bombay. I have personally been there and it took 5 -6 hours to just go 15 kilometres. It takes like 10 mins in the US ( if he is from there) or Europe. Again I speak from personal experience. Providing data was never a crime and similarly guesswork without data is never a scientific or rational or even sensible method in my book ( but perhaps it is in yours). Lastly I haven't any intention of defending tardiness anywhere. If you have to learn you should have to put in the effort. But I certainly am not going to accept comments from people who raise their feet up to the face of a teacher in their own backyard ( school education) and have no clue of what reverence means and are out to educate the rest of the world about it. IIT might not be the quintessential example of such a place but I don't think it is so downtrodden yet. Again I speak from my own experience. You are welcome to your opinions. Oh shoot !! to whoever's opinions you like to shift to next !! :) . Peace
I too felt the same. Those who were sitting shouldn't have left in the middle and organisers shouldn't have allowed late comers. No matter whether it is IIT, IIM or any other premier Institute.
Depth understanding of human philosophy and this is what need to understand before going to anywhere to get knowledge on this query asked by yourself who I am? And the answer was very clear in this lecture :) salute this monk to give me depth analysis of who I am? ..............Now I am clear about this “when you will search god you will find yourself and whenever you will search yourself you will find god” Great fundamental nature of knowledge this reality of nature, brain , mind and existence, especially when think about Who I am ?
Excellent talk! Swami Sarvapriyananda's method of presenting with TED talks and modern research and illuminating us about the connection to our Vedic scriptures is very enjoyable. I am waiting for the next two lectures! Thanks for sharing Swamiji's wisdom with us!
agree that his lecturing is superb with story and also concept of skills and challenges.. given new dimension to to focus on concentration. and never feel boredom in any of the area.... really very inspirational and love the way Swamiji gave to us. My gratitude for this honour and thank you for IIT Kanpur for this opportunity.
I think it is one of the best and logical talk watched till now. the swami expressed his ideas about concentration with logic from western modern knowledge and ancient Indian epics are amazing. thanks for the talk.
I met swamiji in belur math on youth convocation during the conclusive celebration of Vivekananda 150th birthday celebration , he addressed a introductory speech, this speech is so helpful, I had experienced such intense concentration during my college days , now continue to retain it by focussing on breathing meditiaion , this video tremoundously helps ...like this I want swami atmasharada anànda IIT madras Sunday class videos have to be uploaded
Pronam Thakur Maa Maharaj Sawamiji... It was so so interesting to hear for more than an hour... I didn't even know how the time passed away. Pronam Maharaj
25:53 "Do you know that person who solved...." I love that quote "I don't believe in 'intuition' I believe in Tuition.... Srinavasa Ramanujan also worked on Fermat's last theorem, as well as 'Highly Composite Numbers' like the number 12, or 2 x 2 x 3. we know that X^3 + Y^3 =/= Z^3, as well as powers of 4 and 5. (maybe more?) But Ramanujan figured there may be a solution X^12 + Y^12 = Z^12. (or a higher composite number power? ) Perhaps if Srinavasa Ramanujan had Electronic Computers available in his day, he may have found a "Counter-Example, which would have saved Andrew Wiley a lot of work? Fermat wrote in the margin that he had a "solution" and not a "proof" to his conjecture. A solution could also prove the conjecture false. but was too long to fit in the margin.
Swami Sarvapriyananda's explaination is very extraordinary. I always eager to listen his each and every lectures. Please upload his next two lectures on advance vedanta. Please..
A snake as the symbol of attention is also perfect because it appears to be the case that primate vision evolved at least partially to rapidly detect snakes. Chimpanzees also seem to particularly hate snakes. Chimpanzees, when confronted with a snake, will sound alarm calls and become very afraid, then they will watch the snake with intense concentration for hours.
I loved your speech on concentration. It was amazing. It taught me much.I was not a good student in my life but I was good learner, when get excited on something I use to forget time & went on doing that. Now I understood that it was FLOW.From now onward I will do everything with flow. You are great. I had a little request(from this small person) to you that please keep your starting time-pace of your speech small(don't create too much suspense) because at starting there is repetition of same line again n again. Take care Sir
I liked the notion of cognitive capacity. Its true namesake is channel capacity in shannon theory:-) In fact this talk has analogies all over about interference, channel capacity and snr. True blue Swamiji had seen it all over.
The concept is lucidly explained sir. Also,Swamiji is in a state of flow while delievring the lecture.Gratitudes Swamiji for sharing such a valuable concept.
Dear Swami-ji, this is our way of expressing, our Love and Respect for you: Nirvanashatakam, recited by Arya at Panchamukhee Junior Champs 2014, in Harrow, London . Kind Regards, Arya and Gautam.
Sir, After taking the pleasure of your video I am very well able to understand my self which give me real happiness of my life I am very very glad and lucky to watch your video Thankssssssssssssss

Well placed some heavy thoughts..... Thanks.
I bow down to Thee.🙏
Someone said "bow down to thee" Try typing that shit you just typed you fuckin' idiot! Copy/Paste does not go as far these days.
shashiji, meditation is looking into self. experincing sensation that goes inside our body. you can experience it now itself. just close your eyes, take a breath inside slowly and while inhalation try to experience sensation, the air going inside will first touch your nose then mind, heart, stomach and every part of body. now calmly exhale it. during exhalation try to feel the same, that air inside your body is coming out via your nose. while doing all these be calm and try to feel sensations, meaning that air is touching your inner body parts for ex- organs, skins etc. in very less time air gets in and comes out, therefore you will need lots of practice. what i told you is first stage of meditation which we called as "anapaan". meditation is the most powerfull thing in this world. the only person who did it to its extreme stage became buddha, the only enlightened. all hindu gods need shastras( trishul, talwar, bhala etc) to show there strength. buddha, the enlightened one brought down hinduism to his feet without any shastras. a person of meditation with bare hands is most powerfull.

Dave Holt agree with u
Swami Sarvapriyaanada reminds me of swami ranganatha nanda. Swami Ranganathananda would give Sunday afternoon lectures

One of the great videos i have since 5 years of you tube life of mine
Explained with ease n simple way but so profound.Swamiji you r really great🙏
Swami Sarvapriyananda's explaination is very extraordinary.
This is far ahead of time
I am thankful to Swamiji and IIT Kanpur for uploading this video
Swami ji App ki Guidance Video helped a lot at the time of Studying and Clearing My CA Final
Thanks, A lot,
Swami Ji 🙏🙏🙏
I liked the notion of cognitive capacity. Its true namesake is channel capacity in shannon theory:-) In fact this talk has analogies all over about interference, channel capacity and snr. True blue Swamiji had seen it all over.
I do feel proud to be a part of this Samiti...
Can't thank enough for sharing such wisdom 👏🤗❤️
One of the better videos I've watched on this topic. Very informative and lucid talk given by Swamiji. Enjoyed watching. Thanks for posting!
Realising your True identity by yourself is the highest Goal. True Identity=Truth=Self=Brahman per Hindu Theology and Spirituality
