    That garage door was a nightmare. Out of curiosity, I searched youtube on how to install a roll up garage door and found out that what you have to do is while the door is fully rolled up, you have to rotate it 2 full revolutions to create enough spring tension so that way when it rolls up it won't flop all over the place. I think you had enough parts, just didn't get the necessary spring tension you needed.... instead you got winter tension!

      @@walktxrn system in video is different, i do not think it is missing the spring loading system but built into the pipe, loosen the U clamps on either side, tighten one side gently, spin the center pipe till you get the tension needed by loosening the 1 clamp you have slightly tightened, so, loosen, turn, tighten, sorta like bleeding brakes. Turn the inner pipe clockwise ( force needed to open door ) till you get the tension needed

    Hi, A friend of mine a similar flexible door they installed to go in the vertical slots then up along curved slits and onwaeds along overhead horizontal slots. The top beam is at the back of the horizontal support, and the side of the wall where the curve had to be adjusted to fill the gap between the curve and the corner of the frame. They added chains with weights the ends on both sides that have enough weight to make tension to take the door down and pull it up. Works well. Easy to use. Good luck with the garage door DIY.

    As far as the roll up door. Tighten the plastic large wheels to the roller bar. There should be Allen set bolts to adjust the spring by winding it AWAY from your body, then tighten the Allen bolts once more. That’s if you ever do it again.

    I’m not sure who Mathew is to you sir. There’s a lot of tension. There’s a lot of work. If there’s anything that I’ve learned is to just keep doing what’s asked; if you do it wrong, either one is to blame but also retry.
    Towards the end, plenty of bonding and listening was going on. There’s diversity with the thoughts and I think both of you make a great team. I wish I could have had a dad or a boss that’s relatable.

    Just a couple notes on the build. The beams going across the top are rafters, not trusses. If you live somewhere with anticipation of high winds, utilize hold downs at the corners of your walls and, with the OSB or plywood sheathing, they will act as shear walls.

  • @J-P.B1992
    @J-P.B1992 3 роки тому +1

    Hi! I installed the same door 2 weeks ago with instructions and managed to fail by removing the wrapping. You may not even have had wrapping since it was probably a demo. Anyway, I fixed it by loosely tightening the U-Bolts for the rod than, using two wrenches, I wound the spring by rotating the rod counter clockwise until the door would barely lift from the ground but not quite. I would turn the rod alternating the two wrenches as one would always remain clenched to the rod for safety if it were to spin out of control (the wrench would catch on the top plate or something)

  • @leowilson7545
    @leowilson7545 2 роки тому

    The coil spring that supposed to tie onto the rotating wheel is missing. That is why there is no tension to keep the sheet metal door roll up tight. It works exactly just like the pull down window blind and it has a catch to hook onto the door at the bottom when the door is pulled down. By shifting the whole mounting bracket upward is not going to solve the problem.

    I think your door is missing a piece at the top. Pretty sure it's supposed to have something that sort of looks like a round heating duct pipe cut in half along its length. This covers the bits at the top & as the door is pushed up it forces the slack to wrap around the wheels. Probably could cut yourself something out of tin or similar but I'm not sure that door is worth the effort, looks a bit low quality & might not survive long anyway.

    This video should be titled how to do a hack job at just about everything you do on your shed...windows, framing, doors, thinking an 8” screw going through only an inch of a whole 2x6 is “good enough”....I don’t see how you have been doing construction for so long and are still in business. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Pretty common to have a little stress when working with family, but as long as you keep the important things in perspective you should be good. God Bless.
