Two years on.... and half way in to Covid 19 Ive just finished my first 50k and trying to find new routes is some thing your will be doing as there's now lots of restless people out there walking dogs, cats and tables lol.... so you'll be out there running long distances or loops like me to avoid people... and using the trail is a good way of strengthening your ankles and calves and without knowing helps your hill work - good luck every one and stay safe if you're watching this now.... 2020
"The only thing you can do 9 days before the event is hurt yourself. " that's brilliant, I needed that! Great video, planning my first ultra for 2021. Hopefully covid will be under control by then!
I really appreciate Matt Sims for doing this video. I am just starting to get ready for my first 50k trail race now. I've never raced a marathon before. Half-marathon is the longest I've raced to this point, so I was nervous about jumping into this 50k, but not anymore. I'm excited for this now. Great video, great tips/thoughts. Thanks so much.
Same over here, only did half marathons before, trail and road ... wanting to go for a longer distance, thinking about a 44k (double the distance i'm used to runing) Did you use a training program?
Thank you for this beautifully put together video! Loved the footage and the advice. Getting ready to sign up for my very first 50k in December! Am super excited about it!
I just got into trail running and hiking a few months ago and I really enjoy it. I would like to run a 50k, any advice how many miles I should run a week to prepare for a 50k next year?
I don't know if you've already had your race yet? Many people seem to recommend a long run of 18-22 miles max, 3-4 weeks before race day, to avoid excessive wear and tear before your 50k race. Hope that helps!
"A cheerful Heart and a cheerful face", that's exactly the state to BE in. It eases the pain and lightens others. Matt has a wonderful attitude.
Absolutely!

Thanks for the video. I have my first 50km coming up on the 18th of this month. I can not wait.
Nice video and great tips. I like the chill vibes of it and the sincere opinions and tips.
I can barely crank out a 25k in 4 hours but I'm 243lbs so I'm not mad, maybe one day I'll try 50k. Just doing 10 miles for races right now.
Doing my first 50k in the next few hours. Can't wait.
Update? 🙃
Hope it went well!

Is 12 wks enough time to train for a 50K? I ran a marathon back in March
thank you for your wonderful lesson and pictures.
Today, I signed up for a 50K at 17 years old, having already run a fast marathon. Am I too young?

What's with the crazy loud background music. I couldn't continue watching.
The heck with the cheap music :D
Gels sucks, rest of the advice seems fine.
