    Thank you. Very informative. May I add Don't brush side to side. Don't rub the blades with your fingers or you will get cut.

    A+ video!
    I've cleaned a/c unit's for a friend as well but mainly for the purpose of removing wasp/bee's nest. Exercise caution when opening the cover, just in case!

    Thanks for this, Todd! I’m currently doing the NRVTA home study course but saved this video as a quick reference. Plus, the info about the Houghton units is great!! Wish I had known about them before having to replace my AC last year. Bookmarked for later!

    Good video. To many look like your plunged up coil. Have you done one on cleaning your CAC and radiator? I have seen CACs as plugged as your coil.

    I wish I had those simple plenum covers over my evaporator coils! I have to cut away foil tape and undo about 12 screws to lift off a metal cover (with sharp edges, I might add!)

    Be careful not to get any of the foam coil cleaner on gel-coated fiberglass. Typically when you rinse the coils. It will leave streaks that no amount of waxing/cleaning will remove.

    Have you found that the actual foaming cleaner of choice makes a big difference? The frost king stuff is 18 bucks a can, the homeless despot variety is like 7... heh. Guessing amazon is not happy about shipping chemicals....

    Regarding the Houghton units. I currently have Coleman Mach with the RV Airflow device to improve air movement. Would I need to remove the RV Airflow if switching to the Houghton?

    Todd... thank you. As you already know on our Coleman-Mack for a Grand Design 30 RBS. How hard would it be to change out the unit for this one. Prices vary from $1,000 to $1300.00 units at RecPro. I have an RV at 35 ft. What raiding do you recommend?

    Hey, so I’m a customer orientation specialist for a small dealership with very few techs. Our 2023 units from keystone are coming in with a “heat battery” switch and lithium batteries. I don’t know if you have already done a video on it, but could you go over the use and reasons for using a heating component with a lithium battery?

    What are your thoughts about replacing with a little bit thicker A/C Filter vs the standard ones that come with it? Does it really affect airflow that much?

    • @NationalRVTrainingAcademy
      @NationalRVTrainingAcademy  Рік тому

      No. If you clean your coils then you will not have a problem. Thicker filters means slower airflow which causes problems for the ac.
      Don’t make your AC an air cleaner. If you need purified air then add an air purifier to the rv.

    Have you bench tested the power draw on this one vs. Coleman Mach and Dometic units? If so, please share.

    Hi Todd, great video! I also enjoy your Q&A "you ask we answer" videos as well. You guys make it fun to fix things.
    We were planning a short get away trip out of town this weekend. I always go through and run check all my systems before we go so we do not have any surprises at least on the first day of travel 🙂. As luck would have it, the front roof top house AC compressor stopped working. The dometic low profile Duo Therm 15,000 BTU ducted AC/heat pump is 20 years old. I have two AC units on the roof. I really like the design, looks and the low profile of the Houghton AC you show in this video. My wife wont budge and wants the new AC to be ducted like the old AC. My Class A 36' long and the roof height with the old AC is 12' 9".
    What are your thoughts about ducted AC's verses Non-ducted.
    What would you recommend for a replacement ducted AC unit.
    Thank you

    • @NationalRVTrainingAcademy
      @NationalRVTrainingAcademy  Рік тому +1

      So Houghton makes a ducted version. It’s just taller. Go ducted ;)

    I've seen a video of improving airflow through the back of the shroud by using expanded metal on the exhaust side of the shroud. is this a worthwhile endeavor? will it improve the efficiency?

    Do you know if the Houghton can operate using a wall mounted thermostat? We have a WiFi thermostat and for our situation in the summer it’s a life saver.

    • @NationalRVTrainingAcademy
      @NationalRVTrainingAcademy  Рік тому

      The Houghton comes with it's own remote. There is a wifi version available, but it would still be used separate from your thermostat.

    Question about adding that second Ac thst runs with a remote. Since I have. 30 amp rv. I quess I can only run one Ac at a time. Right?

    • @NationalRVTrainingAcademy
      @NationalRVTrainingAcademy  Рік тому +1

      Depending on the size of the acs. 2 of the Houghton could stay under 30 but you literally have nothing left to run the fridge, converter, tv etc.

    My opinion is to first use Nitrogen to lightly blow coil clean going in opposite flow of air's normal direction (intake direction). 2nd clean all dirt etc with a foam coil cleaner, now you use an evaporator|cond comb to straighten out coil. If possible use a good dry spray that's going to help dust and dirt be more passive. Now your set. The fast way is get big nitrogen tank and blast the coil in seconds. Problem is you'll damage fins, so use your common sense. If you've got a comb I say blast away. On large commercial units I'd just open panel and blast with nitrogen, makes more sense cost|time wise. If you want to have fun or your anal, go through all the steps. Thanks ..
