Lovely model. Always been a fan of these units. Such a shame they were all scrapped. Bachmann have done well to capture the character of these famous trains.
Hmmm Happy coincidence! the week before looking on ebay saw two Bachman Pullam train sets, one at £229 with I thought very reasonable and the other I think was £375 and they had a lovely crest right on the front of the unit, any keep those Pullman's going. 😀😀
I saved up specially for the Bachmann Blue Pullman set and no regrets. Never travelled on them but used to see them at Paddington in reverse livery on day trips to London. Sneaked onto a withdrawn one at Old Oak Common and have loved them ever since.
I saw the Midlands Pulman a couple of times. Once sat in St Pancras Station on my first ever trip to London with my Father, and once under power going through Bakewell on its way North.
I travelled on the blue Pullman from Bristol to London. I did not notice that it was uncomfortable. I was probably overwhelmed by the experience and the breakfast. great trains
Had the Bachmann set when I had a model railway, reluctantly sold it along with everything else. Although not having a layout now I do have the Graham Farish collectors set. I remember seeing the Blue Pullman as a child and have always had fond memories of it.Great video, thank you.

Thanks for sharing this video, i purchased mine new when they came out on pre order it runs lovely on my DC layout with Gaugemaster controller, all lights work, lovely model, my grandson also has a 6 car set in N gauge, these do not have interior lighting but runs beautifully thanks again John

Great video Dan. I truly admire your patience and knowledge in stripping it down. My model was bought new in 2012 and has run well. It is sound fitted and have added some passengers too. Have also weathered it slightly with roof exhaust and frame dirt on the bogies. I reckon mine could do with a wheel clean as coach C lamps come on but flicker on occasions. Don't think it as drastic as a new PCB board thankfully. You are right. It is a stunning model.Great video and thanks for sharing 😊
What a wonderful sight, the Nanking Blue (never liked the reverse livery) Midland Pullman. A superb bit of film of the real train at the start as a history lesson. Then, shifting into the early kits and production models. The review of the details, etc, about the model was great and informative. Going onto the stripping down and rebuilding the locomotive is great to see for what is involved if one had to do it. An enjoyable, well laid out video by yourself of these delightful sets. I've the six car Bachman set myself, and I have to say, they are a marvellous piece of model engineering. Even up todays standards (2024) with Accurascale models, these units were on power with any models now in their construction. Thanks, and kudos to you in making this neat film of these classic items.
Well this brings back some horrible memories! I've had one of these sets from the original production run. Over the years it has disintegrated; lighting has gradually failed or gone intermittent, both motors got very noisy and have been replaced. I got so frustrated with it I dismantled it, stripped out the lighting and run it on DC. Meanwhile, my 1960s Triang set, unmodified apart from Ultrascale wheels, runs well on its original motor. Crude, no detail, too short etc, but it works. You've done a great job with yours, well done!

I have polished all six coaches to represent the clean, shiny examples of the real thing when in service. Mine came with Sound fitted in both front and rear cars and sound beautiful when running on the layout - one of my best and cherished trains I own. A very comprehensive video, I can't believe that Bachmaan modelled the bog. I remember going to St Pancras in the very early 60s to see the Midland Pullman in all its glorious pristine livery. Sadly BR had to ruin in in reverse corporate blue and grey qith a yellow front end. I often think it would also have looked nice in tradition pullman livery too.
Beautiful thing. I used to ride the western region version with mum back in the early 70s but even then I could get the feeling of faded grandeur off something i didnt understand. As I got older I understood about the Nanking blue originals off my dad and have always loved both liveries.

I purchased the same set 2 years ago from eBay and had never run it owing to the fact I didn't have a layout. to be fair I don't have one now owing to the fact I'm still building the baseboards. I decided to check mine out to see if they have the same faults as yours. luckily the only thing wrong with mine was spider poo.
Lovely model. I never got round to owning one as they were to expensive for me at the time of their release. I bought a good condition Triang one and I was going to try and fit a Springfield motor bogie in it instead. We,ll see how that goe's. Nice video.
The traincrew got the best ride as they had an unpowered bogie under the cabs. The traction motor bogies were under the rear of the power cars and the first bogie of the coupled coaches.
You really do need to put some passengers in the coaches, it looks scary, like a railway version of the Marie Celeste. Add the ice cream men, it will be perfect. Did the HST125 ever run in Pullman livery?

I had thought about that. But the bachmann sound is clearly an MTU HST. Footage with quality sound of what these actually sounded like seems to be non existent.

When I saw the real Midland Pullman for the first time I was smitten and when Bachmann bought out a model I just had to have one and what a beauty, I enhanced mine with passengers and sound at both ends. I can now relive those boyhood memories. My sound decoders came from YouChoos.
A Heljan Pullman was originally commissioned by Olivia's Trains (Sheffield) along with a Class 76 and 77. Bachmann then announced a Blue Pullman and so the CADs were shared with Bachmann and the Heljan Pullman cancelled.
Hi Dan, your re-build of the Triang Pullman - did you film this rebuild as you did it? This is what I'm doing right now and I would appreciate all the help I can get. I have several Pullmans and I've taken the most 'grotty' of them to form a complete train. I've sanded all the scratches out and now I'm working on each individual unit starting with the Kitchen cars. I've purchased a couple of bogeys from Silver Fox and I'm pleased with them so I'll be getting enough for the whole train. I've also changed the power cars' chassis. They now take Lima Ringfield motors from a HST which I will be replacing with CD motors. I have a battery operated sound capsule for one of the drive cars and some simple lighting is to be fitted. I've painted the interiors and the list goes on. As I say I would love to see how someone else has done things. Thanks a lot.
Notice you are use Gaugemaster prodigy to run it like me. Did you know you can re-map the cab lights( currently on F2 there) to say F4 & F5 where they will stay on permanently if you so wish. Nice video. Mine had a dry motor bearing which I must sort

Yes Tri-Ang models seem to be plentiful, although the middle coaches are still quite expensive.

Think they all come DCC fitted. just remove the DCC chip and install the blanking plate included. I use mine on DC no worries.
