- We look back at how one of the UK's most pivotal elections unfolded.
The LSE Election Night Party is one of the most exciting and informative places to experience any UK election night. This was certainly true on 12 December 2019, as the world's media joined a packed audience at the LSE to watch one of the UK's most pivotal elections unfold with analysis from leading political experts and thinkers. The LSE Government team was there, along with our colleagues from The LSE British Politics and Policy blog, The Democratic Audit, LSE Public Policy and the school's social media teams to cover reaction and debate throughout the night.
This film captures what happened that evening, from the moment the exit poll came in at 10pm and on into the small hours of the morning, with analysis from political experts including Dr Joe Greenwood-Hau, Professor Patrick Dunleavy, Professor Sara Hobolt, Professor Paul Kelly and Professor Tony Travers on a general election that resulted in a substantial Conservative majority, settled the Brexit stalemate and saw a realignment in British party politics that may change and define UK politics for the considerable future.

Who else is here for the salt?..
I come here for a bit of mood lifting. Sometimes get a semi as well.
@@hickster222 hahahaha
Loved the response in the Student Union Bar.
Indeed, pleasing to see the London bubble being well and truly burst! 😊👍
Seeing the little group of Conservatives in the background jumping up and down was amusing.
@@chrislewis8714 less so for the leftie luvvies.
😂😂😂😂😂
@@chrislewis8714 like when you score an away goal ;)
The reaction of the people on the stage is hlarious, espescially the woman who almost falls off her chair laughing. Then the student's union! Like someone who thinks they won the lottery being told "nah, you haven't!"
0:51 OMG That scream is so freakin glorious!!! I love it! More tears! More cries! More!!
idiotsloveboxes now we have the classic reminder that most of Boris’ supporters have the mind set of 12 year boys
@@GoogleUser-lk6xn As if the actual kicking and screaming when you don't get what you want is the pinnacle of maturity...
@@GoogleUser-lk6xn Lol, loser alert.
it'll go down as one of my most happiest moments of my life
If that's the case, that's extremely sad
This was one of the most important elections in my lifetime, I worked hard supporting the local candidate - and I was overjoyed with the result. Best early Christmas present ever.
@@chrismarshall25 I’m glad to hear that
@@dom.quarrington You obviously don't care about politics then. Why are you commenting on this video?
@@petegiant What? How is saying to someone that a conservative win is “my most happiest moment of my life” sad got to do with my opinion and how I feel about politics?
The Student's Union bar reaction is hilarious - "3-2-1! Ye..........ARGH NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (SCREAMS OF PAIN)" I thought that the Channel Four exit poll, now sadly taken down, where the audience all swoon into their seats groaning and Chakrabarti looking like she's got a mouthful of wasps was the best...but that beats it lolol. All those poor students crying into their diverse carbon-neutral beers LMAO
Kids, Communism isn’t cool. Read your history.
Jeremy was not a communist lol
He bloody well was an old Marxist-Leninist
@@benhickman749 lol he is not. Theres a big difference between socalism and marxism you clown
@@kurtjappy alright I was a bit extreme in my response there but ye he’s definitely a bloody socialist!
@@benhickman749 of course...he doesn't refute it
Sad little students union must have been crying in to there Beer😭😭😭😭
Excellent video very informative and exceptionally well put together well done to the production team 😁
As an alumi, I am not surprised or disappointed by this reaction
The singular of "alumni" is not "alumni"
So were there two of you?
@@vicjones3992 🥱
More than a year later and the reaction still never gets old
Flipping fantastico. Every time I can't be arsed this cheers me up Billion%😷🏴🙏
The happiest moment of my life, after the birth of my two children
The first one is much better believe me.
sad fuck
The reason so many students are behind Labour is that they like the idea of scrapping tuition fees. The idea is that you pick a degree that is useful, say engineering or medicine or whatever, and by the end of it you have a decent job with decent pay where you can pay back the cost of your tuition. It's fair. But a lot of these fools are studying the history of lesbian dance theory and ethno/gender diversity studies, where there isn't a job at the end of it and is no way for them to pay it back, and the only thing they are left paying for is their poor decisions which they would rather leave to the rest of the tax paying public. I guarantee the people celebrating in this video spend less time on twitter and more time studying for their degrees that will actually benefit society.
Students like the idea of tax funded freebies as they don;t pay tax. The whole "student loan debt" is nonsense. Below certain earning you pay nothing, and after so many years it's written off anyway.
Yeah, that's cute but I actually studied engineering and wrote my dissertation on using controls engineering theory to develop economic theory and tuition fees are actually bad for the economy.
Most of the money gets written off and they end up functioning more like a graduate tax that stifles the middle class whilst allowing the rich kids to just get daddy to pay for it.
I'd also note that the last 4 (or 14 for that matter) years kinda prove that Tory economics are built on voodoo. There's a reason the Tories struggle amongst all age groups who went to university. Educated people don't fall for tory bollocks
The exit poll was pretty damn close, as far as the Conservative seats were concerned.
Go woke go broke.
Rebecca Long-Bailey remind me who she was!
Wrong Daily
After the election she was asked, ''Why the long face Rebecca?''
This video never fails to lift my spirits
They do not have a clue lol
I love Woke tears. Christmas came early last year.
Lol Tories more communist than Labour. How is that for libertarian Tories and hard core conservatives?
You probably need to grow up then lol
Interesting times-it was certainly that!
Starmer's problem is his position on Brexit.
People won't forgive and forget, any time soon.
Makes me so happy 😀 seeing students uni lol
Music is bloody awful
4:07 "Britain will have 5 years of stable government" 🤣
That countdown by the students was hilarious
HAha what a great night that was. Poor old Steptoe got a hammering.
5 years of stable government 🤔
lol
Poor students looks like they will have to work for a living
Rather alot of soy there
BREXIT BREAKS BRITAIN
It's the result of voting Conservative for Brexit.
Idiot.
