The gay conversation must be so awkward for Luke, who actually is gay.
He doesn't seem to have a problem with that. He just wants to keep his life private (or lets say more private as before when he was not that popular). And he is totally right. Why should anybody care whether he's gay or not.
Elizabeth Liss well, people are concerned about whether he's gay for 2 different reasons. Some people care because they're intolerant towards gays, and don't want him to discuss his homosexuality. The other reason is because people care because they would like to see an openly gay leading man in film, just like we have openly straight actors in film. Most people who say, "I don't care you're gay, just please keep it private" or promoting people to stay in the closet.

Lefou actually became my favourite character in this movie. He's just so silly and funny. In the original he was just kinda... there. Probably so Gaston wouldn't look so lonely.
Wait. So this is a movie about a girl and a literal _beast_ falling in love with each other but people are nuts about it because one of the _side_ characters _might_ be gay?!
I mean then again it does take place back several hundreds of years ago… so seeing a gay dude was less common than believing in stories about actual beasts…
But worrying about a character being gay is pretty comical. To me though Disney halfheartedly trying to be inclusive for the marketing aspect when we know they’re conservative (the writers and animators are progressist) and do not give a single eff about that stuff unless it makes money is really the thing that got me tired of Disney.

How did she not know that Josh Gad has a major theater background and was in The book of Mormon? Prior to to Frozen, theater was his greatest claim to fame. Somebody didn't do their homework.
They handled that with professionalism and good humor. Because it really was ridiculous that it should even be questioned.
Took my kids to see the movie. They loved it so much they made me take them to see it a second time. Gad's 'gay' character? no big deal. No kissing nor gay scenes like people are afraid of. The character was just silly and funny and the music in the movie was very good. no big deal.

They could have had an innocent kiss. In my opinion the gay parts were way too subtle, blink and you miss it.

Ok this is such a random fact but when josh went “ I went to school for theatre” I immediately went “AAAAH I KNOW WHERE HE WENT” he went to Carnegie Mellon university and my dad works there and has since before josh went that so it’s cool to know more about that.
