Mrs. Meredith was born on February 27, 1933 in Monroe, Louisiana and passed away on September 12, 2024 in Athens, Alabama.
Ethel was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a graduate of the class of 1951 from Ouachita Parish High School, and went on to become a kindergarten teacher’s aide for many happy years. She was very invested in her students, and personally helped and mentored many, to whom she meant a great deal.
Ethel was incredibly devoted to her family, an excellent homemaker, and a wonderful cook. She greatly enjoyed making many special dishes for each of her family members, as well as those in her community.
Ethel loved people, and had many dear friends. She could often be heard saying, “Make new friends, but keep the old; those are silver, these are gold.” She loved to make people smile and laugh with her sharp wit and wonderful, silly sense of humor. Ethel enjoyed playing piano, working in her beautiful garden, bicycling around her neighborhood well into her 80s, and was an avid reader and loyal patron of her local public library.
Of chief importance to Ethel was her faith in the Lord. She was a longtime member of Parkview Baptist Church. She faithfully attended worship services and prayer meetings every week, and was an active leader in Sunday school class. The Prayer Room Ministry, and Friends at Home Ministry were of special importance to her. She made numerous calls, sent encouraging cards, and distributed seasonal baskets and meals for many years. She was a prayer warrior for her family, friends, and all those in need.
Ethel was preceded in death by her husband, Marquis “ML” Meredith III; parents, George W. and Cynthia E. Myers; and her six older siblings.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Cindy Smith and husband, Bobby; sons: Marquis L Meredith IV and Leslie Bates, John M. Meredith, and Timothy D Meredith; grandchildren: Melanie Williams and husband, John, and Nik Smith and Nichole Capps; great grandchildren: Joshua and Stephen Williams, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be: John Williams, Tommy Miller, Biff Meredith, Robert Blackwell and Bennett Blackwell
Honorary pallbearers will be: Bobby Smith, Joshua Williams, Stephen Williams, Scott Meredith and Jeff Myers
