Was so keen to check out the video you captured ever since I seen your pic of RL15 on Flickr and I remember you saying that the footage would be thrown up soon, awesome to finally check it out and see how young these trucks were back then and I notice too that packer cycle time is slightly quicker than what it is at the moment (probably due to age). Yeh so 15 and 16 are out there everyday now on Bankstown Cleanups and Fairfield's RL85 is the extra truck for the busier days or goes out to clean up the leftovers. Bit of shame they decided to cover up the signage with a Suez sticker, I think this old signage looked good and gave the two trucks a bit of identity as Bankstown trucks, now they can be seen as just generic "SUEZ" trucks :( I just love these trucks and working on them every now and then is a good feeling, with that mad sounding 07 Acco roaring between the pickups and that smooth sound you get with these Acco/HEIL combos when you run them through a pack cycle. I also dig that noise like at around the 0:40 mark when the trucks just idling :D Also the US version is my pick too :P As always Mitch great job with the videoing and cheers for the upload !
Figured you probably jumped through the roof seeing this available to watch, especially being now this stuff is part of your gang :P Does RL15 still sound like it does in the video? You might notice it hasn't got that typical 07 sound when driving, bit more high pitched with a whine because the pump is constantly running! They do sound mad these trucks ey, you're right too, even at idle! Still remember working on RL10 at St George and Randwick which was damn awesome, just extra fun lifting bins and packing - the exhaust sound and thunder was out of control in this dock job we did in Maroubra =] First time I saw the Suez sticker covering up the proper clean-up signage, I almost collapsed in unpleasant shock - a very distasteful thing they did.

Yeh 15 and 16 sound pretty much like it does in the video, I know what you mean its sort of higher pitched but when you floor it you get hints of that typical 07 Acco sound + even better when you flick on the exhaust brakes :D Yeh RL10 would be pretty similar to this truck and yeh there a nice combo the Acco/HEIL's, ah yeh underground dock jobs are the best mate you get the sound all around you, bloody love doing Top Ryde units Cleanup with RL6 !
The true scale of this beast really caught my eye. It almost reminds me of a DSNY RL. Anyway so are these kerb side pickups on call, annual, or do they just sweep? I can imagine using a FL with a carry can for bulk isn't used at all out there? I'd assume this all goes to a landfill aswell? Great post as always I love clean up vids especially the one you got in Ryde many many years ago. Still one of my favorites today. :)
This is a damn long truck - usually these size bodies are taller than the average RL. In Bankstown the collections are on call, which is gradually becoming the norm for clean-up in other councils. Never seen an FL doing clean-up here or known of one doing that, no such thing as carry cans in Oz either :D The place it gets taken to these days has a MRF which sorts through the loads - back when I took this they might've recovered some easy stuff like greens and bulk metals at the transfer station with the rest destined for burial. Yep that Ryde action was pretty sweet, a top favourite of mine as well ;)
Nice video Mitch, not too often we see any action from Heil Garbage trucks down in Aus. These trucks are massive, I remember seeing one hoping someone was able to film it. Some of the items it packed it were entertaining to watch like the mattress. Are these trucks still on Bankstown Cleanup or have SUEZ turned them into commercial units??
Yeh there haven't been as many getting around these days, only the odd few new ones have popped up here and there recently - lots of Heils back in the day though! Yep these things still work in Bankstown, just looking much older and have been through some loads since!

I'd Imagine it will be up for renewal being 2017, but with the council amalgamations and Canterbury still having several years left with cleanaway it could make things interesting.
Yep it was meant to expire this year, but it will continue for now basically until the Canterbury contract expires. I found out not long ago and can't remember for sure now, but I think it's just an extension agreement, not an actual new contract they've signed, though either way they've still got that work to do until it all comes together and starts fresh.

Its not an 07 its an 09 bc it was different grill until 09. The grill had iveco in it unlike this one with it above it.
Its a 2007 Iveco Acco

This front grill came out on the later 2007 models. Look up the rego if you dont believe me, I work on these trucks so I should know.
